BURNLEY are bracing themselves for bids for Kieran Trippier after losing their place in the Premier League.

Tottenham have emerged as the favourites to sign the right back but it is understood Spurs are just one of a number of clubs keen to sign the 24-year-old.

Trippier signed a contract extension to the summer of 2017 at the end of last season, but included in that contract was written a £3.5million release clause in the event of relegation.

And a handful of top flight clubs have been lining up to take advantage since the Clarets suffered the drop just over a fortnight ago, despite a 1-0 win at Hull City.

Arsenal have previously been linked with Trippier, while Newcastle could retain their interest after preserving their Premier League place on the final day of the season.

Southampton could also be an option for Trippier, depending on the future of Nathaniel Clyne, although Saints boss Ronald Koeman seems confident of securing the Manchester United target on a new contract.

Stoke are another club understood to be weighing up a bid for Trippier, who has grabbed the attention of Premier League scouts in his debut top flight season.

But it is believed that, contrary to reports elsewhere, newly promoted Bournemouth are not in the race to sign the defender.

The south coast club were linked with a move because Cherries boss Eddie Howe was the manager who brought Trippier to Burnley from Manchester City.

The full back, a product of Manchester City’s academy, has been the biggest source of Burnley’s chances with four assists and 59 key passes and it is going to be difficult for the Clarets to hang on to him ahead of a return to the Championship.

City would be set to receive over £1.2m from any deal after negotiating a sell-on clause of 40 per cent of any profit made by Burnley, who signed Trippier for £450,000 in January 2012 after a successful loan period.
