JASON Lowe is ‘good to go’ after Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer confirmed the versatile midfielder is fully recovered from the serious injury that blighted his season.

Lowe was restricted to just 14 appearances in the 2014-15 campaign after suffering a stress fracture in his foot.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury in the final friendly of pre-season but it was not until the end of August that the pain became too much to play on through.

Lowe was sidelined for three months and, although he returned to full fitness in December, he lasted just two matches before the problem flared up again.

The former England U21s international spent a further four weeks on the sidelines before attempting a second comeback in January that this time lasted six games.

Lowe was ruled out for the rest of the campaign after he went under the knife in an effort to solve the problem once and for all.

The operation was declared a success and, just like centre-back Shane Duffy, who also finished the season on the treatment table, he will be ready for the start of pre-season.

And Lowe is targeting the training camp in Portugal, which Rovers will jet out to after their opening friendly away to neighbours Accrington Stanley on July 11, as the point when he will be fully fit.

Bowyer said: “I was at the training ground this week and Jason Lowe and Shane Duffy are progressing ever so well.

“They’ll be fit for the start of pre-season and that’s a great boost because, on top of everybody else, what a loss the two of them were for us.

“Lowey’s going to be all right, he’s had the operation.

“He’s good to go now but he’s targeting the Portugal week to be fully fit.”

Rovers’ inability to hold on to leads was one of the major reasons why they finished the Championship season 11 points off the play-offs in ninth.

They failed to take three points on 11 separate occasions after going in front last time out.

And Bowyer believes Lowe’s vivacity and positional awareness was a ‘big loss’.

“We’ve missed his energy and his legs and his ability to sense danger and act on it,” said the Ewood Park chief.

“We’ve really missed that, he’s been a big loss.

“And I also think he’s improved with the ball. We saw that in pre-season when we looked at him so it was very unfortunate when he started to suffer the injuries.

“But they are all behind him now and we’re looking forward to having him back.”

It will be the third summer running that Rovers have flown out to the Algarve for a week of warm-weather training.

“It’s a very good camp where we go,” said Bowyer who, in a bid to add more experience and strength to his midfield, is interested in Jamaica international Rodolph Austin, who will be a free agent once his contract at Leeds United expires on July 1.

“It brings the lads closer together and the organisation of the trip is very good. Everything that we want there is spot-on and it works out to be a very, very good week.

“Hopefully we’ll have some new faces by then. We had Alex Baptiste join us for that trip last summer and by the end of it, you’d have thought he’d been with us all season.

“And that’s because you spend so much time together. It’s an important side of it.”
