David Eyres column: We'll get there soon

Kieran Trippier denies Blackpool a late leveller

Kieran Trippier denies Blackpool a late leveller

WE never do things the easy way at Burnley, do we? But hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer.

We thought the wait would be over last Saturday, but even if we’d managed to beat Middlesbrough it would not have been enough to get over the line with Derby winning their game.

One week on and we’re still not quite there. But we’ll do it, and I can’t wait for the celebrations when we do, hopefully at Turf Moor on Easter Monday.

Last Saturday was a strange feeling. There was a sense of expectation around the ground, even though it wasn’t all in our own hands.

I don’t think we’d have scored if we’d have carried on until Sunday – it was just one of those days.

I lost count of the number of times balls went across the face of goal and I was expecting at least one of them to go in.

I must admit though, as a player I don't think there's a better way to get promoted than through the play-offs at Wembley.

The euphoria of the whole occasion was fantastic, and it was great to have a trip down a Memory Lane with my pal Parky last weekend about our celebrations in the capital 20 years ago.

Saturday will live long in the memory of both of us and I cannot thank the club or the fans enough for inviting us back and welcoming us so warmly.

It was lovely to see Gary smiling. It was a moment to savour. The result aside it was a wonderful day and just an incredible, emotional and humbling experience.

Let's hope that next time he comes back it’s to a Premier League fixture.
