Blackburn Rovers waiting on injured skipper Hanley

Lancashire Telegraph: Grant Hanley Grant Hanley

BLACKBURN Rovers are sweating on the fitness of captain Grant Hanley ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

The skipper came off in Tuesday’s 1-0 home loss to Bournemouth after feeling his hamstring – leaving Gary Bowyer with just one fully fit centre-back in on-loan Manchester United youngster Michael Keane.

Hanley, who is only just back from the calf strain that forced him to miss the 4-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers, is undergoing treatment at Brockhall.

But Rovers boss Bowyer is hopeful the injury will not prove serious given Hanley flagged it up early.

Bowyer said: “To be fair to him he shouted it early doors so we’re hoping it’s not as bad as what people first think when he limps off with a hamstring.

“We’ve not had much luck with injuries but that’s something we’re not going to go on about, we’ve just got to deal with it and get ready for a difficult away game at Huddersfield.”

Rovers should know more today whether Hanley or fellow centre-back Matt Kilgallon, who has missed the last two matches after straining his groin in the defeat to Bolton, will have a chance of facing Huddersfield.

Read the earlier report on the club website when Bowyer made the point that if Hanley doesnt make it then we have players who can step in. Really? Who are they then? The same that stepped in when we were embarrassed by Bolton. Still time left to get another midfielder on loan before Saturday.

Give me stength!

Grant Hanley has become an absoutely vital player for the Rovers and most fans rate him highly now. Funny that not so long ago a lot of fans wanted him dropped or sold! The same fickle fans now want Bowyer out......crazy!
