Kevin Gallacher column: Rhodes will find shooting boots for Blackburn Rovers

Jordan Rhodes

Jordan Rhodes

First published in Sport by

I’VE got no doubt that Jordan Rhodes will soon get back on the goal trail.

Once he gets that first one his confidence will lift a little bit and he will kick on from there.

It is hard for strikers when you are not scoring.

You are desperate to score and sometimes you can try a little too hard and you start to snatch at things.

But you’ve just got to bide your time and, for me, I think the best thing you can do is just go and hit a ball into an empty net.

Get one of your team-mates to cross the ball across the park and, with no goalkeeper, just hit it into the net.

For me that is the way you can overcome your dry spell quicker – that and just keeping your head down and keep working hard.

I’m a great believer if you work hard you will get your rewards and by all accounts Jordan did exactly that in our win at Reading on Saturday.

And ultimately, although it can be frustrating as an individual if you’re not scoring, the team is winning and that surpasses everything else.

As a team sometimes you need a little bit of luck and we got that on Saturday.

For our goal Jordan got tackled but the ball ran to Craig Conway, he reacted to it and all of a sudden it was in the back of the net.

Then at the other end there was a possibility of a penalty kick for Reading.

So you look back and say, yes, we rode our luck but that does not take anything away from what was a fantastic victory.

Looking forward we have a derby trip to Bolton on Saturday and a win can put us within touching distance of the play-offs.

I think we’re going to have to win 10 of our final 15 games to get into the top six.

Eight of them are at home and they are the ones we must target to win.

If we did that, that would leave us needing two wins away from home – and there would be no better place to start than on Saturday.

He'll be fine... the opposition are still scared of him too, which is creating more space for Gestede.
Nice thing is that Rhodes will come back with another flurry in a couple of weeks, just when we need it...

Zero goals in NINE games is a shocking statistic and probably the reason why you clowns are now out of the play-off picture. Rhodes clearly wanted to move in January and club prevented it. This is the price you pay for keeping an unhappy player. He will be gone in the summer for a much reduced fee given that his performances have declined so rapidly.

Squeaky bum time is fast approaching for Blackburn Rovers.

oh dear dear...somebody sounds very nervous indeed!! Quite funny watching you squirm behind your bravado :)
Where did he want to move to then, Man United, Chelsea? or Fulham, Cardiff? Nope, they don't actually want him, too much of a risk. QPR? not when they have super Charlie and the rest...Harry just likes to distract.
Not quite as risky as your comments though, keep digging, dingle, he he.
We need to sell him in the summer, no doubt, and Robinson will go too, but no others...how will it be at Turf Moor, if you miss out on the play offs...oh dear!
Your fears are showing, Look Up, your nerves are becoming visible and its funny :)

reading "look up's" comment, Jim, Rhodes is a shocking player, but he's so good that he cant wait to leave.
I know that doesnt make sense, but 'look up' has become so obsessed now, he's sent himself dizzy...quite comical, but its not going to end for a couple of weeks.
Jesus can you imagine how he'll be if the mighty Dingles fail to get their first win in 35 years - oh dear!!

You have no chance of getting a constructive response from this clown RR, I have been asking him for days about The Dingle masterplan but I don't think he likes me,or maybe he isn't sure. To be fair though he knows EVERYTHING about us so let's give him that, not long now though Sweetcheeks as you will be at Ewood in the flesh, oh sorry it's on Sky isn't it, well at least you can keep your laptop on your knee and let us know what's said at half time by the pundits while we are having a jar. Long enough for it to matter! I think Rhodes signed a contract extension, with a little raise as I understand it, to enable Rovers to benefit from a bigger fee when they flog him. Good management actually

You're probably right, but it also means Ings would be the more attractive buy for a Premier league team looking for a young Championship striker. Every player has his price at our level (Burnley and Blackburn) makes sense to protect any player likely to move on.

Great posts Realistic Rover.
Look up Blackburn or whatever alias he's is today just enjoys getting any form of attention and this forum is probably the only way anyone ever communicates with him. Nothing to say ever and a keyboard warrior = waste of space
Rovers have nothing to lose this season as who'd have thought we'd be in with a shout of the play offs with a new team and manager trying to recover from last season(s) wreckages.
We actually have players who care and are playing for the shirt .
Makes me laugh people who don't think GB is doing a great job in the circumastances or isn't the right man for Rovers.
Burnley however have it all to lose - question is will they blow it or not ?
You've got to give them credit to be honest - 3 losses all season so far and unbeaton at home for 12 months. I don't mean I would enjoy them going up though I just wouldn't worry about it
We only have to remember the late 80's to know being in the top 2 in february doesn't mean promotion then, its between now and May that counts.
Just get the feeling Jordon Rhodes will have his scoring boots on next weekend

"Burnley however have it all to lose"

How do we possibly have it all to lose? No one involved in English football anywhere gave us a chance this season. Every single no-dad was 100% confident after your disgrace of a first season in the Championship and the utter humiliation of finishing well below Burnley that this year you would turn it around and be challenging for automatic promotion while little old Burnley struggled in a relegation dogfight after the tragic loss of Charlie Austin. HOW WRONG YOU WERE.

We have nothing to lose this season, we have dominated you clowns in EVERY SINGLE AREA for two years. We are where we are not because of luck but because we are a very good team. We have a solid group of players and a manager who can get the best out of them.

You are so very jealous of our progress and your demise that you cannot do anything but wish injuries on our players, which shows exactly why the football world looks down at you for the shambles you are.

You will be silenced on March the 9th, and should the Clarets achieve the 22 points out of 42 now required for automatic promotion you will finally have to accept that the tables have turned.

Nothing to say ever and a keyboard warrior = waste of space Rovers have nothing to lose this season as who'd have thought we'd be in with a shout of the play offs with a new team and manager trying to recover from last season(s) wreckages. I don't mean I would enjoy them going up though I just wouldn't worry about it We only have to remember the late 80's to know being in the top 2 in february doesn't mean promotion then, its between now and May that counts. Just get the feeling Jordon Rhodes will have his scoring boots on next weekend[/p][/quote]"Burnley however have it all to lose" How do we possibly have it all to lose? You will be silenced on March the 9th, and should the Clarets achieve the 22 points out of 42 now required for automatic promotion you will finally have to accept that the tables have turned. look.up.blackburn

oh dear...your fears are really showing now, looky, you're making yourself look very silly.
Thanks for reminding us of the 35 years of dominance though...and have a look at our ground sometime, it'll give you an even sharper reality check.

Tactics are not helping JR

He finds it hard to head long balls on
He struggles to hold the ball up
He is not lightening quick to latch on to through balls but conjures up great goals when the ball falls to him in the box Yeovil away a classic example

some games such as Middlesbrough away Gesture was played on the wide right to stop their Full Back George Friend attacking down our right flank so Gesture was a million miles away from JR

Look up Blackburn
You get more paranoid with every post mate.
I don't really give a toss about Burnley - never have, no bitterness here buddy, nice try at a wind up .. another failure .
There was a visible compliment of what your lot have achieved so far this season if you go up fair play as you said no one expected it.
You really do need to stop with your inferiority complex to Rovers fans as all your posts say it loud and clear to all of us.

What fears?

Keep trying to play it down but you'll only succeed in making yourself look even more desperate. Can you name an area in which you have exceeded Burnley this season?

League position?
Games won?
Goals scored?
Goal difference?
Goals conceded?
Highest scorer?
Defensive record?
Winning run?
Most games without a loss?
Form table?
Manager of the month awards?
Player of the month awards?

.... anything?

You will receive reality check #1 on the 9th of March.
You will receive reality check #2 in May.
You will then go into hiding as you whole world falls apart.

The Clarets in the Premier League as poor old penniless Blackburn Rovers enter a world of financial pain in their 3rd season in the Championship. Cost cutting galore and unable to bring in players due to a transfer embargo.

What a shambles.

ha ha...you try so hard.
Credit to Burnley, they are having a very good season and are in a good position at the moment. Much better than us.
The club is still not a patch on Blackburn Rovers, though and thats not opinion, its fact.
What makes me smile is how desperate you are to convince yourself that Burnley are doing well and we're doing badly...how much has it hurt you exactly over the last 35 years, because it really shows and I love seeing it!!
Youre about 9 places above us, but we're in a pretty good place mate, to be honest.
We started going down hill and then turned it around - you must have been gutted!
You are a very desperate man, but you need to accept that you cannot change the facts, we are a bigger and much better club than you.
You can tell us you are doing well, but you need to accept that Blackburn Rovers is a much better club than Burnley.
You ARE doing well, but you will never be as successful as us. Get used to it and calm down, its not opinion, its fact x

Suggest you check the history books before you embarrass yourself next time Mungo. You've just saved me the job of making you look like an absolute tool.

It's so easy these days, the mugs are mugging themselves off.

Exactly how much of that "success" was based on honest, hard work on and off the pitch, and how much based on the shameful extraction of a dear old man's life savings?

If you were to take away the £100million+ financial advantage bestowed upon you, I think you would find that your little foray into the upper reaches of English football would never have happened.

Burnley on the other hand achieved an incredible promotion in 2009 only 25 years from being on the bring of exiting the football league. We now find ourselves yet again in pole position for another season in the big league. All this through honest hard work on and off the pitch.

You may have bought a smidge of success but we know our success has is well deserved. You cannot say the same. In fact I sense that your "success" comment is a tad tongue in cheek and comes with a tinge of shame attached.

It all comes down to this... now that all your money is gone, where are you? Right back where you started looking up in awe at the Clarets.

youve done well...I'm not disputing that.
but not as well as us.
Jack would do the same all over again and you know what, if I was him, I hope that I would have the same presence of mind to do exactly the same.
A supporter that put his money into the club he loved and achieved incredible success...how good must that have felt?
(It certainly made a significant difference to my life, I sure it did to 1000's of others and its good that Jack go so much pleasure out of it)
Ironically, getting pleasure from seeing how angry it makes such as you is only a tiny part of it, being at that last Newcastle Home game in 1995 was one of the best experiences of my life, closely followed by the trip to Cardiff to see us beat Spurs.
Reality is that Blackburn Rovers will never experience that again, and neither will Burnley...it was bloody great!
(nearly as good as the 5-0 in 2001 after Souey had taken all our lads to Dubai for a week :))
