Ramsbottom United bid to close in on top six spots

EVO-Stik League First Division North club of the month Ramsbottom United make another push for the play-off zone tomorrow as they head up the M6 hoping to chop down Darren Peacock's Lancaster City.

The Rams, who have made light of a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player, will hit the top six if they can topple the Dolly Blues at Giant Axe.

Former Blackburn Rovers defender Peacock has led Lancaster into sixth place in the table after their own impressive run of form but Ramsbottom are on a stunning run ahead of the short trip.

They have plundered 19 goals and conceded just six in a month of high entertainment that saw another 12 points garnered as the Rams’ excellent run of just one defeat in 20 league games continued.

Padiham could do with finding their own form but they have the perfect chance to put more space between themselves and the drop zone when they cross the Pennines for the game with struggling Wakefield at Belle View.

Bacup and Rossendale Borough bid to climb out of the North West Counties League Premier Division relegation zone when they make the testing trip to Staffordshire for their game at Alsager Town, who are just one position above them.

Borough have three games in hand on their hosts and are just one point behind.

Boss Mark Fell is hoping to boost his squad ahead of the game to compensate for the loss of Ben Hoskin to Workington, Richie Allen to AFC Fylde and Brandon Barski to Burnley United.

Meanwhile Darwen look to recover from the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy loss to Chorley when they face 1874 Northwich.
