WITH no game this weekend, attention turns to Tuesday night when we entertain Brighton at Turf Moor and it’s another huge game for us, especially after the result against Sheffield Wednesday.

Last week we did everything but win the game.

We created enough chances but couldn’t quite get the win we needed.

Fair play to Sheffield Wednesday. They came into the game full of confidence after a good run of form and they fought for their lives, but if you look at the overall performance I think we created enough chances to win three or four games which makes it two points dropped in my opinion.

Brighton are another decent side who are no mugs.

They have been in good form recently and I think they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, but last week’s result means the game is a must-win.

Obviously QPR and Leicester have more favourable fixtures on Tuesday but we can’t worry too much about what they do as it is outside our control.

All we can do is win our own games to keep the pressure on those above us, but also try and open up a gap to the teams below us. A win against Brighton would obviously make the gap between us and them a bit wider meaning we will be closer to taking a potential rival out of the equation.

The game represents a chance for Ashley Barnes to face his former club.

From my own personal experience, it is tricky playing against your former employers but your mind has to be fully focused on the job.

I remember going back to Blackpool for the first time with Burnley and I got a huge amount of stick from the fans, but if anything it made me even more determined to do well and thankfully I managed to score in that game!

It won’t be easy for Ashley because he spent a lot of time at Brighton but he is employed by Burnley now and his job is to score goals for Burnley and I’m sure he will be anxious to get off the mark in front of the home fans.

Finally, with the transfer window closing next week, the obvious question is whether or not Sean Dyche needs to strengthen any areas of the squad.

Looking at them last week, we looked quite strong defensively.

We have a very good keeper and the back four is decent, but maybe we could look at getting someone in on loan to add a bit of strength in depth.

However, I think the chances of getting someone in on loan for cover, especially from a Premier League side, at this stage are pretty slim.

I’ve always said you can never have enough strikers so if we can get another one in it would be nice, but if I was really pushed I’d say we could do with another centre half to provide a bit of cover.

Having said that, thought, we look solid defensively at the moment and hopefully that can continue on Tuesday.
