BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has warned supporters not to get carried away with his side’s flying start to 2014.

Rovers followed up an excellent Championship win at Leeds United on New Year’s Day by holding FA Cup favourites Manchester City to a third-round draw on Saturday.

But ahead of this weekend’s visit of Doncaster Rovers to Ewood Park, Bowyer is urging caution.

He said: “The biggest thing now is to guard against the expectancy level – we can’t get carried away.

“The Championship is a very difficult league and now we’ve got a tough game Doncaster coming up.

“So the message to the supporters would be – let’s not get carried away. Enjoy it by all means but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

It was a message Bowyer has also been drumming into his players in the lead up to the clash with out-of-form Doncaster.

Confidence within the Rovers camp is high and victory on Saturday could move them into the top six for the first time this season providing other results also go their way.

Bowyer said: “There is an air of excitement among the players.

“They’re developing nicely but we’ve just got to make sure that we pull them back down to earth after the City game and start improving again.”

Bowyer is working hard to reduce the club’s wage bill after spending a combined £800,000 on Tom Cairney and Rudy Gestede – and yesterday Alan Judge completed his loan move to Brentford.

The 25-year-old, who will remain with the League One leaders until the end of the campaign, re-signed for Rovers in the summer.

But after starting the first three games of the season Judge has found his opportunities limited.

But Bowyer insists the Irishman remains part of his long-term plans.

Bowyer said: “Judge is a great lad and credit to him he is desperate to play.

“It isn’t about the money for him, he loves playing football, but at the moment with what we have got he hasn’t been able to force his way in.

“It is a move that suits all parties, it will allow him to get some games under his belt for a good team.

“We’ll monitor his progress and hope that he does well for them.”
