Chorley boss chasing a Trophy upset
9:30am Tuesday 17th December 2013 in Sport
CHORLEY boss Garry Flitcroft believes his Magpies can pull off an upset tonight – and knows Forest Green have everything to lose in the FA Trophy second round replay.
Flitcroft’s men were the better side for much of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with the Skrill Premier big spenders at Victory Park and could have been awarded a late penalty when striker James Dean was upended in the box.
That stalemate means Chorley face the arduous trip to the tiny village of Nailsworth in the West Country for tonight’s replay and go into the game as underdogs against a side two divisions above.
However Flitcroft fancies his side’s chances of winning through to go and face Tamworth in the last 16 of the competition.
“We are away against a full-time Skrill Premier side - but there is no way that this tie is over yet,” said former Blackburn Rovers skipper Flitcroft.
“I know there is a big difference between the Evo-Stik League and sides in that league but we showed on Saturday that we can compete and compete well.
“I was so proud of the way my players performed on Saturday in dreadful conditions and we will go down there and enjoy the occasion and try and get the result.
“If we can perform like we did in the first game then there is no reason why we cannot go and spring a surprise.
“Yes, it will be tough but that’s cup football.”
