It is not Black Darener, it's definitely McKinley. My son works in London and it is being reported there slightly differently than elsewhere - Fulham actually said that Rovers CAN talk to McKinley as long as the compensation package is agreed first.

That puts a totally different slant on it as I would think that the compensation that Fulham will want will be a lot less than the 3 million that Spurs wanted for Sherwood.

Names such as Schuster, Clemente for example - both have managed at the very top.
We appear to be intent on making the same mistake as last time - appointing a coach with no managerial experience.
Can anyone remember the rumours around Blackburn on how McKinlay got his bad injury that kept him out for approx 12 months - I do.

McKinlay was a popular player and was part of Hodgson's team that qualified for the UEFA Cup laying some great football, remember 7-1 against Sheff Wed. Spot on - I have nothing against Billy
McK but he is one of Keans best mates in football - there is a question of TRUST here and NO-ONE tainted with the brush of Kean or Anderson can be appointed as next manager.

I don't know whether McKinlay or Sherwood would do a good job and neither do any of you.
All I would say is that how come both Spurs and Fulham have denied permission to speak to them? Could it be that their current employers actually know more than you lot and beleive that they are quality people and that they don't want to lose them? Just a thought.

Absolutley spot on. McKinlay also played in the opening match of the 1998 World Cup in France against Brazil. The last time Scotland qualified for a tournament. How can anyone be comparing this guy to con-man Kean ?

Thanks for your input. All managers have to start somewhere otherwise there would be no managers. Mckinlay is far more respected through the game than the drunk driver. Kean was never a professional footballer, he was a con man, a chancer and a liar. Mckinlay was a good player and he is an ex player of ours. So give him a break, no-one could have a worse record than Kean.

Thanks for your input. All managers have to start somewhere otherwise there would be no managers. Mckinlay is far more respected through the game than the drunk driver. Kean was never a professional footballer, he was a con man, a chancer and a liar. Mckinlay was a good player and he is an ex player of ours. So give him a break, no-one could have a worse record than Kean.

McKinlay wouldn't be my first choice by any stretch of the imagination and I was very disappointed when his name was first mentioned but having had time to think about it, any ex-top flight international player with a Rovers pedigree would be a thousand times better than that disgusting drunkard liar Kean. My point was that despite their lack of footballing knowledge, the V's are the ones that currently make the business decisions for our (their) club - so surely they will want the best results possible for their investment (they do run a successful business empire after all) - and being in the prem is the really the only way forward for them as owners of the club. I didn't say that either our owners or a new manager would get us there - but that must be their target for the sake of their business. Absolutley spot on. McKinlay also played in the opening match of the 1998 World Cup in France against Brazil. The last time Scotland qualified for a tournament. How can anyone be comparing this guy to con-man Kean ?

Not only Jol. I'm fairley sure he was actually brought in by Coleman and was kept on by Hodgson and Hughes as well as Jol. They must of all been happy with him.

Coleman signed him in 2004 and he has been at Fulham ever since - currenty First Team coach. Fulham have done quite well during that time and are established in the prem. Also he only just got recruited this month I think, as the Northern Ireland assistant manager. Not sure how that will pan out if he gets the Rovers job. Just have to wait and see if he is the chosen one now....maybe not who most of us would have wanted or picked but definitely a lot better than a lot that have been mentioned.

I see why any reasonable person - as you are - would expect Kean to lose his case. Yes they could (and should) have sacked him and yes he was lucky to be in a job. But the fact remains he was in a job and very much un-sacked. All Kean will have to do is demonstrate there was some interference with team selection - which there probably was from Shabby at some point - or that lies were told to him by his superiors (and it's not hard to imagine that they were) Then of course there was Shebby's shameful display at the fans meeting. a judge will take one look at that - Shebby encouraging fans to laugh at the incumbent manager- and he will instantly find in Kean's favour. Newsflash, we aren't in the premier league any more, just in case you missed it. We are in the championship where many a manager has cut his teeth. Billy Mckinlay should be given a chance and not dismissed out of hand. Hughes didn't even start this low down Hmmmm.

Unbelievable posts on here claiming that we should be realistic about who we could / should get or expect as manager.....

Yes we are in the championship however just having spent a fortune that other clubs would give their right arm for. The fact that the past three / four transfer windows have been a disaster due to the departed idiots spending policy is not any part of a new managers record. In fact they will have a right job on their hands sorting it all out with the no doubt lucrative contracts some of them will be on.

We are a FANTASTIC club that many managers would relish taking on (as borne out by the recent job applications) as most of the chances of getting a Premier League managers post are pretty scant at best.

There is only about 10 realistic jobs going in the Premier League for so called ambitious managers to aspire to hence many of them having to cut their teeth with league 1- 2 and conference sides, so who are the next best influential crop of jobs or clubs for ambitious (young) managers?

At this moment in time (crucial next seven months) we are top of the tree for these folks - So yes our REALISTIC expectations of a fantastic, experienced, ambitious, hungry, high profile manger IS something that we should expect.

If the next sevens months turn out how we all wish them to then we will keep this standing if not we may not be as high profile in subsequent years however will still be a club that has so much tradition history and fantastic facilities that managers will always wish to be a part of it.

My one plea would be that the Venkys begin to truly realise this fact and never sell off our treasured training facilities that players and managers alike must relish turning up to every day.

Hang on a minute, how can you compare Kean to Mckinlay? Kean played 6 professional games in this country, Kean was a con man. Kean played less professional games than Ali Dia who was the guy who conned Souness for a contract at Southampton, he , like Kean was a con man and not a footballer at all.
Mckinaly played football at the highest level in this country and he played with passion and a bit of venom. Mckinlay and Kean are chalk and cheese.

Thanks for your input. All managers have to start somewhere otherwise there would be no managers. Mckinlay is far more respected through the game than the drunk driver. Kean was never a professional footballer, he was a con man, a chancer and a liar. Mckinlay was a good player and he is an ex player of ours. So give him a break, no-one could have a worse record than Kean.
