Clarets close in on new manager

BURNLEY co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz has revealed the new manager will be picked from a shortlist of “three or four” next week.

The Clarets board have spoken to at least 15 managers since Eddie Howe completed his return to Bournemouth to take charge for a second spell last Friday.

And they have narrowed the search down, with the intention of holding second interviews next week.

Banaszkiewicz was not prepared to rule anyone in or out in the hunt for Howe's successor, but said at this stage there was not a clear favourite.

“It's been quite an eventful week. We've been up and down the country and interviewed over 15 managers so far and we're going to shortlist them to three or four early next week and have second interviews as well.

“We're going to get the rest of the board involved because it's quite difficult right now to pick the best one because there are three or four really capable and hungry candidates for the job.

“I hope we will have an answer probably by next weekend in terms of who that candidate is.

“But at this stage we're not sure.

“My co-chairman Mike (Garlick) and I don't quite think 'yes, that's the guy' yet, so I think a second time round would be good, and we'll bring in Barry (Kilby), Brendan (Flood) and Clive (Holt) for the DNA to try to work out which one of those three or four is best.”

Here's an example of someone who admits he needs help to make a decision. The decision may turn out to be right or wrong but at least it's a decision.

Perhaps the clowns at Ewood can take note

Nice to see our board is united and working as a collective, with our chairmen conducting club business with purpose and in a profesional manner.
Talking about purpose and a profesional manner, Terry Pashley. He and the lads did us proud yesterday. A solid performance, more pleasing than the result itself. Could easily have been 3-0 but could also have been 1-1 was it not for a great goal keeping performance from grant. Any potential manager wondering what he would have to work with should he wish to take on the role will have been bouyed by what he saw yesterday. An claret wonderng if terry has the ability to step up to the managers role was also certainly bouyed by what we saw. Since eddie managed this against bolton on the first day of the season, will be interesting to see if terry and the lads can do one better wih a repeat performance away at bristol on tuesday night. good luck lads.
Only downside is that the many clubs that are talking about charlie have had another opportunity to see how good our star striker is. When the time comes, which it will at the end of the season if not in jan, got to be no less than 10m. Hopefully terry pashley steers us to promotion and charlie stays with his improved premiership contract to spear head our assault into europe!
At least for now pride has been restored, well done all.

See the face you love light up with Terry's all Claret!

Another consequence of a repeat performance on tuesday would be to allow the board a little more time to conider the next appointment, though we know we don't want the process to drag on. Unlike some we could mention, cluck cluck pwoar!

Terry's of Burnley.

Ian Holloway hit out at speculation linking him with the vacant manager's job at Blackburn after seeing his Blackpool side lose 1-0 at Burnley.
The Seasiders boss insisted he had enough to worry about following their defeat to their local rivals at Turf Moor.
The Clarets, themselves without a manager following Eddie Howe's return to Bournemouth, claimed all three points after Charlie Austin bagged his 16th goal of the season.
Austin's first-half header made it four defeats in the past five games for Blackpool, whose manager Holloway has been installed as favourite to take over at Championship rivals Blackburn.
But Holloway claimed he had no interest in discussing the rumours - instead focusing on his current side's failings and the match-winning striker who got away from him.
"I don't want to talk about any speculation. I am fed up of it," he said.
"I haven't quartered any of it and I don't need it in my life and neither does anyone else.
"I don't know whether it affected the malaise of my lads at the start of the game but I am sick of it but that's life.
"I have to wonder why we didn't start as brightly as we finished. Overall we did everything but score. We had the lion's share of the possession but we couldn't put the ball in the net.
"I saw our team play quite well but we didn't create enough, although Burnley didn't have many chances either.
"We posed more threat in the second half but the Burnley defenders seemed to stop my attackers too easily.
"Lee Grant made a fantastic save which changed the course of the game but Charlie Austin is a dangerous player and that is why I wanted to bring him to Blackpool. We agreed a fee for him first but he chose them."
Austin has been in scintillating form this season and he never looked like missing when he connected with Kieran Trippier's cross in the 19th minute.
Alex Baptiste and Gary Taylor-Fletcher were then both denied an equaliser by Lee Grant in the Burnley goal with a remarkable double save to move the Clarets up to 15th.
"The performance was absolutely fabulous," said Burnley caretaker-manager Terry Pashley.
"Blackpool put us under a lot of pressure in the second half and we had to weather a massive storm but I thought we defended fantastically well.
"Lee Grant has made a magnificent save and the players were willing to do all the things needed to get a clean sheet.
"They put their bodies on the line, we won our headers and we got our blocks in when we needed to, so to say I am pleased is a bit of an understatement.
"Charlie Austin took his goal well but he is a real team player and worked tirelessly for the team.
"I have not had too much time to think about it as the week has gone so fast.
"It is not something I can control but I have really enjoyed this week and it was a relief to get the result."

Good post nnn.

You have to wonder if the lack of a full-time manager is having a positive and reinforcing effect on the lads, rather than the opposite.
Whatever it is, long may it continue.
I realise it's early days etc., but triumph in the face of adversity and all that.
What it does demonstate is the basic abilty to perform well is there, as is the spirit, given the current circumstances.
As the old saying goes, "if it aint broke, don't fix it."

I hop Bobberslobberdevanow
ichikikowski gets this decision right as we need a strong agent in place to drive Bumley through the lower divisions, and one who sells austin in january. all things crossed that the polish lad makes the right appointment.

What is rather worrying is that the rest of the board are to be brought into the equation now as regards appointing a new manager. Who appointed Brian Laws and Eddie Howe? Wasn't it the present board but with a different man at the helm? And what's all this talk about Paul Ince and Keith Hill ? To go round this root would especially allienate the fans and prove once again that the currant board dispite all the talk coming out of Turf Moor about " got to get this appointment right." have a total lack of ambition. And as for Mike Garlick's comments about promotion not necessary being high on the boards agenda for this season. Why did he not come out and say this before the Clarets fans were asked to cough up money for this season's season tickets? I will tell you why, because if they had come out and said this before the start of this season - TICKET SALES would have been at an all time low. I said last week that the Clarets would only get about 13,000 on the "Turf" on Saturday evening and I was proved right. At this rate the Clarets will fail to fill the Turf on Sunday 2nd. December. against the Venkey boys who won't sell all their tickets either. I don't know about coaches and buses-THEY MAY ONLY NEED A TAXI on that day.

Well its not an attractive fixture is it? From what I could see you only have one decent player so no worries for us just a foregone victory why changes years of keeping you at second best?

and Rovers top target is an ex player who walked out on them and has never managed a football club (never mind one in a crisis like Rovers) before.
.
I think Kean will be waiting for his £1million pay out before applying for another job!

I've more or less given up using this web-site but felt I had to comment on part of yours.

What would you expect the gates to be on Saturday night when the match was televised and all the local pubs advertising that they were showing the match? I noticed several regulars who sit close to us and who are season ticket holders, were missing. So I think your comments were based on a somewhat blinkered view.

The biggest slip up was the fact BFC had the chance of a big gate but blew it by allowing it on TV.

It was a positive showing on the night and couldn't really single anyone out for extra praise or condemnation. Obviously must point to Grant's double save (plus a couple more) and Charleis goal. On a slight negative must as "When, oh when is Junior going to get better final balls in?"

It was a good substitution by Pash when he brought on Bartley and then Vokes, the former held the ball well to relieve the pressure and if the team had taken advantage on having beaten the offside trap twice it would have been 3-0.

All in all a good round team performance and long may it continue.

Do you only buy a ticket to see a winning team? Perhaps your enegy would be better spent watching Man Utd!
.
Has anyone connected to BFC mentioned Ince or Hill? Have you got a quote to share with us?
.
Were you at the Turf or did you take the option of saving £30 and watching it on TV? No sorry I forgot, you have a season ticket so you would have been there!!!!
.
What a supporter you are.
