Grimes denies he quit on Nelson

ROBERT Grimes has denied Nelson FC’s claims that he and fellow joint boss Michael Morrison walked out on the North West Counties League First Division side – and said the pair were effectively sacked by text message following a post-match telephone argument with chairman Fayyaz Ahmed.
The former Ramsbottom pair took over the Victoria Park hotseat in the summer and managed to attract played to the Admirals.
But after a bright start to the campaign, Nelson’s results have taken a turn for the worse and the duo left this week.
However, Grimes said he disputed a Nelson statement that suggested the pair had quit.
“That’s just not the case,” said Grimes. “There have been issues with things not happening that were promised and it came to a head last Saturday.
“The chairman and myself ended up rowing on the telephone and I won’t lie it did get heated. “He said that the board could not back our vision – but it was their vision, that’s why we came to the club in the first place.
“After the phone call ended I got a text from the chairman saying that he thought it was better if we part company. To me that is being sacked – and if they had said it was because of recent results I would have taken that on the chin.
“But I don’t want it putting out there that we have walked away – because that is not the case.”
Grimes added: “We both passed up the chance to play in the Evo-Stik League to move to Nelson.
“A lot of the things that happened off the field were Sunday League – and that affected both Michael and myself.
“I am a bit hacked off at the moment to be honest and don’t know what I am going to do football-wise.”
Morrison has been training with Nelson’s Pendle rivals Colne.
