Stanley get a pie high in cost survey

Accrington Stanley can boast the cheapest pies in English football, according to a national price survey published yesterday.

Pies can be bought at the League Two outfit for just £1.50, compared to the national average of £2.86, according to the BBC’s Price of Football Survey.

“They might cost less than others, but we can proudly say they are fantastic quality, made by a local supplier half a mile down the road,” said managing director Rob Heys.

East Lancashire’s clubs came out well in a number of the categories, with programmes on sale at Rovers, Stanley and Burnley for the joint lowest price of £3.

The cheapest day out at Ewood Park and at the Crown Ground was calculated at £22.50, including the price of a match day ticket, a pie, a cup of tea and a programme, with just 11 clubs in the country faring better.

Burnley’s cheapest day out was calculated at £29.30, leaving them the 62nd cheapest club.

Rovers came in as the joint most expensive cup of tea in the Championship at £2.20, with Accrington Stanley’s tea the second cheapest in the country.

The average cost of the cheapest adult ticket in the top four divisions of English football has risen by 11.7 per cent in the past 12 months – more than five times the rate of inflation.

Rovers’ matchday ticket price is the seventh cheapest in the country, with Accrington Stanley not far behind in 17th.

Rovers’ cheapest season ticket prices were calculated as the 15th best in the country, although the survey did not take into account early bird prices, which would have left the club the second best.
