Vukcevic given fresh chance at Rovers
9:50am Tuesday 16th October 2012 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
ERIC Black believes Blackburn Rovers’ forgotten man Simon Vukcevic has a “fresh chance” at Ewood Park – whoever finally takes the permanent reins.
Rovers’ caretaker boss will be monitoring the Montenegrin international closely in tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Kiev and insists the past ‘means nothing’.
Vukcevic has endured a nightmare first 14 months at Ewood after signing from Sporting Lisbon in August 2011, having made just 10 appearances last season and one in the league cup this time around.
But now, as the club continue to bide their time in the search for a new manager, Black believes Vukcevic, along with others, has the chance to stake their claim at the start of a new era.
Black will be paying close attention to Vukcevic’s international role as an attacking central midfielder this evening, having spent his Ewood career so far as a winger, as he prepares to continue in temporary charge for Saturday’s Championship trip to Derby County.
He said: “Of course it is a fresh chance for everyone, that has to be the case. There has to be, everyone at the club should see the what has happened as another opportunity.
“Every manager is different, everyone sees the game slightly different. “Everyone sees players with advantages and disadvantages.
“I would hope even the last few days people will be thinking ‘maybe I can show him here’. I hope that is the case.
“The manager is in the position to make the ultimate decision. If I feel somebody should be playing then I will play them.
“If someone shows me they can affect the outcome of a game on a Saturday then that is all I focus on. If they can affect that outcome in a positive manner then they won’t be far away from it.
“I want to see Simon in the international team. “I hear he plays in a different position and, probably my ignorance but Ididn’t know he played in a lot different position.
“He plays in central midfield and I want to see him to assess him. That is something I will look at.”
Meanwhile, Rovers are yet to make their move in the search for Steve Kean’s successor, with a number of options still open to them.
Former skipper Tim Sherwood is understood to remain global advisor Shebby Singh’s favoured choice but it remains highly unlikely that Spurs will make that possible.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway and Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also understood to be on Rovers’ shortlist, with Barnsley manager Keith Hill and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson also under consideration.
Solskjaer yesterday told a Norwegian newspaper he would definitely see out the season with Molde, although their campaign ends next month.
“There will always be speculation when someone in England needs a new manager,” he said.
“There are surely 20 names who have been linked with Bolton now and it's natural that mine is among them. But it's not for me.
“Blackburn, Bolton, rumours crop up all the time. But I’m not that bothered about them.
“I'm absolutely certain I will see out the season here (with Molde), I can promise that.”

When we played them in LC a few months ago they were very impressive, even though, like Rovers they had made 5 or 6 changes.
Their movement, width and passing was on a different level to ours.
I'm surprised that he hasnt had more of a mention seeing as though he was mentioned alot over summer when everyone thought Mr Potato-head was going to get potted then.
And please don't say "he's not a big enough name" - surely we want some-one who can improve the team from the shower, its become not just "a name" - which won't mean much, very quickly if "the name" then can't improve things on the pitch (where it actually matters).
Also, please don't say about KR "he's only managed at a lower level" - because the rate MK Dons are rising and the rate BRFC are falling it won't be too long before we're below them in the league !!
He has achieved alot with very little money at MK-D AND he is an ex-Rovers coach so knows his way round our club.

I think Simon Grayson would be an excellent bet. An ex-player who has done well everywhere. He's only 40 and already has 3 promotions under his belt. Has done very very well with Huddersfield this season.
Still cannot understand why you would take a gamble on somebody with zero experience of managing or the Championship when there are a range of managers out there who know the league inside out - McCarthy, Davies, Grayson, Holloway. Why risk it? In all likelihood a Sherwood or Shearer appointment would require the rest of this season and next summer to 'settle in' which Singh has already admitted we cannot allow to happen. So get someone who can hit the ground running

Why the hell would they consider Keith Hill for the job when his record at Barnsley's is even worse than Kean's at Rovers??? What goes through the minds of these idiots?? As for Sherwood, he is Hendry and Shebby Singh's ESPN buddy. If Sherwood comes (which Shabby has clearly designed all along), then expect the granny robber to stay and the fans to hit the exit gates. I still believe they desire to give EB a crack and are just stalling upon this 'decision' knowing that the support will not take kindly to it.
EB is not the man to take the reins to guide the club to where it intends to be (allegedly).
I do have some doubts about having Olllie, as he is his own man and am none too sure how the 'relationship' would work.
The desired appointment would seem to be someone who just does what he is told, or has to have all his dealings nodded by an other/s.
This is obviously no way at all to run a footy club.
The crowd for the next home game WILL dip, that I am sure of.

Black may be stupid enough to admit not knowing what poitions his players can play in, but surely he must have asked Kean at some point why he made the choices he did.
Did he not look good in training ? Was it contractual ? was is tactical ? or was it another case of difference of opinion with the manager ?
Looks like Black is just another Cone Arranger, and as anybody who sees the team doing their warmup knows, the only thing our club isn't short of is coaching staff to stand around in tracksuits doing 5od all.

How come we are still being linked with, Solskjar, Holloway & Sherwood when 2 of them have come out and said no way thier coming and one of them is so unlikely that the fans are posting articles about the laughability of an approach.
We are approaching Keith Hill and Karl Robinson? When Schuster and Clemente have been linked? Or is this just more bull from the Venkys PR machine. Clemente & Schuster probably only linked because they cant speak english so they cant refute the claims like the other managers have done.
Why are we looking in lower leagues for a manager when we should be searching international leagues for rising stars who are proving themselves at a top european level?

The only threats against Wolves were from Olssen and Nunez from crosses of sorts. Murphy had plenty of chances to pass it to the wings. Orr and Olssen were often available moving forward. But he didn't, he passed back instead and I don't remember a good forward ball from him the whole game. It seemed like he had been told to not lose the ball, which he did except for the goal. But what is the point if you don't lose the ball but keep passing it back or giving it to a team mate who is marked? Olssen showed a couple of times how he could slip past the first defender and then chase and cross, but Murphy never gave him a chance to do so. Orr is another story...

Anyway, Vukcevic would be more of a threat going forward and if he can play in the centre then I'd swap him for Murphy straight away and put Ribeiro in. Trouble is it might make no difference at all if they are all unfit.

I believe we have players who can do the job going forward, the problem is we are overrun in midfield which means we are scared to commit men forward and spend too much time defending our own last third.

The fact that some people are saying that they would still boycott if Sherwood is appointed is beyond me. Kean is gone. And the fact that Spurs (a much higher regarded club at the moment, as well as a far better run club than Rovers at the moment) hold him in such a high regard must say something about the guy.
It would be a welcome sight to see him managing Blackburn Rovers. The ways he could motivate the players about winning the league in that same dressing room are tools no other manager could use.
Time to stop moaning and support the team.

I question if we have any sincere applicants at all who would work with Venkys?
If we do, who's deciding? Venkys who have not the first idea of how to run a proper football club? A Malysian football pundit? (that's like me being Technical Director of Rugby Football at Twickenham, in that I love the game but actually haven't got a clue what they do except beat each other up). A man promoted from selling matchday programmes and another who almost broke PNE? For God's sake!
I would still also ask who is actually controlling matters at Ewood. Who sanctioned Murphy's 2yr deal at 35, Gomes' at 36 and Etuhu's 4yr deal at 31? Ashley Cole can't get more than one year at Chelsea ffs!
The club is seen as a joke and derided throughout the British game, witness journos on Sunday supplement about Holloway "Blackburn might need Holloway but he certainly doesn't need Blackburn", before going on to say we were an example of how not to run a football club, JW etc etc etc

I cannot imagine Jack Walker would entertain having Sherwood and/or Hendry around the place for a nanosecond. If they feel so desperate to appoint a former player then please go for Shearer....and get rid of Hendry!!! The defence has got even worse since they got that idiot on board.

This club is still being run in a disgraceful manner. The only positive thing I can think they've done is spend (already accumulated sale fees) on Rhodes but that's because they think his value will appreciate.

He has seen his reputation soar on the basis that Barnsley beat Birmingham 5-0 recently. Other than that his time at Oakwell has been mediocre to say the least (winning around 20-30% of his games).
They beat us in capital one recently....

BREAKING NEWS
TIM SHERWOOD WANTS TO MEET BLACKBURN OWNERS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ACCORDING TO THE DAILY MIRROR
Anyone who can't get behind the new manager, whoever he is,might as well call it a day and get a new passtime.Something like gardening or birdwatching. The Kean excuse was,for some, just that,an excuse.
I don't think he really cares for Sherwood
AvB certainly doesn't - having recently gone on public record stating Sherwood would not be a director of football.
Levy will screw Venky. And Sherwood will ruin Blackburn. You think Kean was odious?
I don't envy him one bit if he comes. He'll have a mountain to climb to sort out the mess Kean has left behind.

smellthecoffee wrote:Hill is far superior to be mentioned in the same vein as Kean. He has inherited a poor team, kept them afloat over the seasons at Barnsley, compound with some very impressive performances this season. Any manager at Barnsley is under huge financal pressures, and his recruitment has been pretty sound from what I am aware. They were very impressive against rovers this year, pressing high up the pitch with unbelievable stamina & good control of the ball. He has a very below par team there and is doing a hell of a job.. give him the resources our squad holds and he could do very well. Certainly should be on the shortlist, certainly over the inexperienced Sherwood or Shearer for me.
I cannot imagine Jack Walker would entertain having Sherwood and/or Hendry around the place for a nanosecond. Singh and the rest of the 'management team' are so far out of their depth it is clear for all to see. If they feel so desperate to appoint a former player then please go for Shearer....and get rid of Hendry!!! The defence has got even worse since they got that idiot on board.
What was he supposed to do?
And of course it didn't help with the fans getting on the players backs - but of course no-one could possibly suggest that it's your own fault you find yourselves in this mess.

BOYCOTT,
Venkys you have been warned, the fans have showed you they have the power to stay away.
Get this one decision right and watch Ewood take off, 18-20,000 every week.

Bangkok Rover wrote:Bang on the money there Bankok. What's happened is because that rhino skinned filth bag Kean has been gone for 3 weeks, it's given fans to much time discuss who and why should be next manager. If they'd got fingers from up their a55holes and appointed someone quicker, we wouldn't have had time to debate who we all want as manager and would've just been happy that Kean had gone and we could look to a brighter future. I realise it's a big decision but the reason it's taking so long is more than likely due to the absolute jokers that own Rovers. To be honest Sherwood wouldn't be my first choice but he's a million times better than Kean so will get my absolute support. I genuinely believe we have one of the best squads in that league and under any footballing coach or manager with any pedigree or experience we will bounce back, whether it's play offs or automatic........
SaffaRover wrote:Agreed. The papers do seem to suggest we are closing in on Sherwood. If it is him, everyone should get behind him and give him the best chance of success. There's no guarantee with any of them that it would work out.
Who would you guys want? Sherwood or Black? Because it seems to me that those are the only 2 options at the moment. Clemente and Schuster are not even mentioned anymore. And Ole doesn't want it.
To be honest, mid-table, Kean already gone, most of the season to go and a new manager coming at least now we've got some real hope.
And you say it like that's a GOOD thing. Rushing headlong into some half baked idea.
In Venkys case it probably is though. All the evidence suggests when they have time to think they get it wrong.
Anyone who would write such tosh is either:
a/ Steve Kean
b/ a dingle
c/ a tw4t.

Its frustrating I understand, but I'm thankful that in the Post-Kean era, we arent being subjected to the previous Maradona claims, instead they're just getting on with it, albeit a bit too slowly for most fans.
Its an important decision and I'd rather wait and know they got it right than another Keano appointment. For those fearing Black, it isnt going to happen. Sherwood maybe, depends on if they can get him I guess, but got ti be better than Keano or Black.
