Sherwood still in Rovers' thoughts

TIM Sherwood is still high up in Blackburn Rovers’ thoughts to be their next manager – but the Lancashire Telegraph understands the club are still at the exploratory stage of their search.

Bets were flooding in on the former Rovers skipper to replace the departed Steve Kean, moving him to odds-on, as the club yesterday began to think about sounding out potential candidates.

Sherwood is still understood to be Singh’s top pick but Rovers would have to pay hefty compensation to get him away from his coaching position at Spurs.

It is believed the Londoners knocked back an initial approach from Rovers a fortnight ago but no further official attempt had been made at the time of going to press last night.

It is understood a shortlist drawn up by Derek Shaw, Paul Agnew and Shebby Singh includes several names, with one believed to be Sherwood.

It is understood no formal approaches are expected to be made over the weekend though as, having decided the ‘type’ of manager they are looking for, Rovers will spend the next couple of days investigating their options more thoroughly.

A number of candidates are expected to be interviewed before an appointment is made and, with the majority understood to be in work, the process is expected to go on for a while yet.

Get someone in now? And what if it all goes wrong because we've rushed it? This is one of, if not the biggest descision that rovers have had to make in years! So "get someone in now" isn't an option. This needs to be done properly, not rushed. They're asking us to be paitent whilst they make this decision. Fine by me

Bloody ridiculous. What have they been doing all summer? Surely it must have crossed their minds they would need a new manager this season? Why weren't they discussing it all along? Smacks to me of gross incompetence - but I seem to have heard that one before! If, as the LT says, they want Sherwood, why all the hesitation? Either pay Spurs what they want or move on. We can't afford any more dithering.

Spot on. They have had plenty of time to resolve this as it was only a matter of time before bonehead Kean left. A decent board would have sounded out a potential successor out. But typical of the Venkys reign, everything takes so long to get done. They are useless and bl**dy clueless. Sell up you clowns

Here's a thought - had Shebby and Venkys said that they were going to consult with Simon Garner before the appointment of the new manager we would have been delighted and would have said 'at last, they are talking to people who really care about the Club'.

SG has come out and said Sherwood is his clear favourite for the job and I, for one, accept that he knows a lot more about the Club and football in general than I do.

If it takes time to get Sherwood let's be patient and let them do their job thoroughly for the first time.

The longer this takes the less time a new manager will have to galvanise and get the team accustomed to his way of playing. This is a hard league to get out of. Shebby ,Shaw and Agnew should practice what they preach about hitting the ground running they give managers 3 defeats before sacking ,likewise they should get 3 days to chose a manager or get out they already have had two weeks the Americans will have a new president before these clowns have decided.

Rubbish man, Tim Sherwood is assistant coach/ technical coordinator at spuds, or a cone placer. Easiest job in the world is keeping young professional footballers fit. The hardest is motivating senior pros. Considering sherwood was a lazy bar steward he can't exactly draw on his own attributes. Unlike solskjar who won five times as many honours, was five times the player and was five times as fit as sherwood, add to that he has five times as much experience as a manager and its a no brainer.
If shebby and venkys look at sherwood before solskjar they are stark raving bonkers. I do not look at things through Rovers tinted spectacles and Sherwood, although he would probably have a better win ratio than Kean, then again so would puddsey bear, would not win promotion for us Solskjar might do, depends how bad the squad is and how unfit they are..

Rubbish man - I happen to know that Sherwood has the young lads as fit as butchers dogs down at the Lane. He is technical organisation and experience is spot-on and he will sort our lot no problem.

The young Spurs team that he manages in Europe is a testament to his skills.
It might be a no brainer for you Insane one - but its also a no goer.

Unfortunately for us OGS does not want to come to the Rovers. If he wanted to be here then he would definitely be my first choice too. I would be happy with OGS, Benitez, Sherwood or Shearer. The club wants Sherwood so that is OK with me.

BTW one of Sherwood's many roles at Spurs is as Technical Coach/Manager of their highly rated Next Gen team.

Next Gen is a new Pan-European League is in its second season now and is a showcase for a lot of the top European clubs young academy players.

Some of the top clubs in Europe are taking part - such as Barcelona, Inter Milan, Marseille, Man City, PSV, Ajax, Arsenal, Spurs, PSG, Chelsea, Celtic, Anderlecht, CSKA Moscow, Liverpool, Juventus, Bor Dortmund, Olympiacos, Bilbao, Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbace, and others which include Ole Gunnars club Molde.

So Sherwoods lads are getting excellent experience competing against the top young players in Europe. He would be perfect to get our club back running properly and playing decent football again, from the Academy right through to the First team.

But its down to the club now to make their move, lets hope its all done quickly and that the new structure can be in place before the Derby game.

Sherwood it might be, but whoever it is, I'd like nothing more than for us fans to back him and the players.

Would be nice to have the atmosphere and unity, for which we are renowned, restored.

Hardly one of the first; he got pi$$ed off when he saw Fat Boy Kev (Davies) getting paid top dollar for doing f@ck all - about three years after winning the title.

Not convinced he would be the right man though. Still drawn towards OGS.

Another Ewood PR account by any chance Agnew?? You might have been delighted (with consulting Simon Garner)...but don't speak for everyone sunshine. Just because Simon Garner says something doesn't mean it's right. Sherwood caused major problems when he was last at Ewood and has had absolutely no managerial experience. From what I hear, not many supporters trust him or would want him back....it is just Shebby wanting to employ another one of his ESPN buddies. Anyway, if what Shebby is saying is true, then the club are looking for someone with experience - that would certainly count Sherwood out. Employ him and expect a mass exodus from Ewood. I will never return until they get rid of Hendry and be seen to be employing professional and respected people, rather than their chums. Neither Sherwood nor Hendry tick these boxes!!!

I see it like this....

If it's experience you're looking for then you would go for Mick McCarthy with his win ratio and history of getting teams promoted. He was also popular amongst supporters in the LET poll.
.
If you want to go for an inexperienced manager but a popular and respected choice with supporters - and one who would guarantee to put bums back on seats - then you would go for Alan Shearer.
.
If you want to pay multi million pound compensation to employ an inexperienced manager with little respect from the supporters, but because he's a chum of Shebby's and Hendry's, then you go for Sherwood.

Leicester is a similar sized club to Rovers and he didn't do much there did he?? He would also command a fee....Mick McCarthy wouldn't. Same goes for Keane - two similar type of managers and Steve Bruce is another. My short list would be Benitez, OGS, Shearer or Sherwood - all would do a good job for us. OGS - manager experience but in what league could he handle the pressure from shabby?
Shearer - people are drawn on his Newcastle record but every job is different would bring back fans
Sherwood - no direct management experience but has worked with/under/along with Harry and avb bound to have picked up a few pointers
In a nutshell avb came from Porto with a record second to none to Chelsea and basically didn't work bt now he's working his wonders at spurs so the he's got experience he doesn't is irrelevant
Sometimes it just works and I for 1 will be behind the new manager Rtid

Horses for courses.....Holloway has done a fantastic job at Blackpool but that's not to say he'd do as well at Blackburn. It's a completely different beast. Leicester is a similar sized club to Rovers and he didn't do much there did he?? He would also command a fee....Mick McCarthy wouldn't. Holloway has one promotion under his belt (via the playoffs) McCarthy has two...not rocket science!!
he also quite a few relegations under his belt too though Mr. Coffee....he is very much a yo-yo no-no for most people I think. Same goes for Keane - two similar type of managers and Steve Bruce is another. My short list would be Benitez, OGS, Shearer or Sherwood - all would do a good job for us. For sentimental reasons it would be Shearer for me as first choice, best striker I ever saw. But Rovers are set on Sherwood. And he will be good too...and who knows he might want Shearer in there with him?
You don't understand it do you FR?? You get a man to get you promoted....that's the first obstacle and one that brings the fortunes the club needs. If that man then struggles in the PL then you get rid and replace him. Tim Sherwood has no promotions or relegations under his belt because he has zero management experience....Benite
z has no experience of managing in the Championship, neither has OGS, Shearer or Sherwood. My first prerequisite would be a man who can display experience of getting clubs promoted, failing that I think Shearer with an experienced coach could do the job based on his popularity with the fans. As for Mick McCarthy's record FR....can you please tell me of a team he has managed that has ended in a worst position than when they employed him??? COME ON BIG BOY....LET'S HEAR IT!!

You need the right manager, not some knee jerk reaction

My advice would be to get Alan Shearer

HA HA HA HA AHA

Or get Steve Kean back

Shearer and Hendry dream team. One in attack, one in defence, both to sit about drinking special brew like clowns and puking on Shebby and Rao's pony tail. As well as bullying the neighbours into handing over life savings for drinking and gambling

I'll answer that, Sunderland, he took over with them in the premier league, got them relegated, languished in the chumpionship for a year. Got promoted and then got sacked for being sh1t.
If thats the kind of record you want then Big mick is your man. But Keith Hill Simon Grayson and ole gunnar solskjar have been far more successful at going up, staying up and not going back down again which is mick mcarty's specialist subject. He just loves relegation the guy thrives of it. In fact he's more successful than steve kean in that area. you say mick macarthy has a 40% win ratio, so all his teams in the PL would have finished 10th. No not on your life, he has a 40% win ratio taking into account lower leagues. Kean has the same ratio in lower leagues too. Mcarthys win ratio in the PL is almost as bad as keans And he has a nose like a banana

...so back to my question....which club did Mick McCarthy take over that was worse when he left than when he started?? Answer - there isn't one.
.
Actually as a business model...a yoyo club is a sustainable model for a club the size of Rovers. As long as a promotion to the PL is achieved every 4 years then the club should be in a fit financial state. Fans would probably be happy to see their team being successful every couple of years rather than stagnating in the PL. It certainly helped to reinvigorate Newcastle United and West Ham of course. It is probably what the likes of Aston Villa need to bring back some excitement, to break up the monotony.
.
If we can get someone in who can get us back to the top of the league then the confidence will be back, the supporters will be back and we can all start looking forward again.

If that's true, I'd take Holloway. We need experience. He'd give 'em the kick up the ar5e they need because they look un organised and unfit.
Tim Sherwood has no promotions or relegations under his belt because he has zero management experience....Benite z has no experience of managing in the Championship, neither has OGS, Shearer or Sherwood.
Still waiting French Rover.....
Of course it will be. What should be a reasonably straight forward task will turn into an epic, resulting in Eric Black being named as manager. I hope I'm wrong but given the last 2 years I hold little faith with any one of them.

HENDRY was brought back to ROVERS by STEVE KEAN because KEAN mistakenly thought HENDRY was loved and adored by the good folk of BLACKBURN .
.
One afternoon in a Lytham over a few wee drinks in their favourite pub ,HENDRY told KEAN that he had the Rovers fans in his pocket and he would be able to keep the angry ROVERS faithful fans off KEANS back .
This would allow KEAN to keep getting his 30,000 pounds a week.

Kean thought 30,000 pounds a week this is was good money for a man that`s never played decent football ever in his life and never managed a football club .
HENDRY said OK I will come to ROVERS and take the heat off your back but I want 10,000 pounds a week , and he got it, this is the reason we are lumbered with the scoundrel HENDRY .

OGS could be worthy of consideration but so could Mick McCarthy and Alan Shearer. If you're looking for experience of promotion from the Championship then you would go for Mick McCarthy for many reasons.....first of all he actually has got 2 separate teams promoted, secondly he wouldn't cost a penny in compensation and thirdly he wouldn't need Hendry to sort the defence out (so could get rid). He would also have a backroom team experienced in English football. He seems the overwhelming favourite and I cannot really understand what the problem is tbh and your childish remarks won't change MY mind or any other mature level headed individual.

He will be the new slack ar.se But I bet you'd love that no good filth bag in charge, wouldn't you? Dingle Infiltrator

RUinsane/FR/JA I'd like to see you call Mick McCarthy "bananaman" to his face.
I would have no problem at all calling him banana man to his face. I bet he'd love it

Problem is there is not one stand out candidate, when Big Sam was appointed he was the obvious choice, last Christmas when Kean should have gone Mark Hughes was the stand out candidate, this time there isn't one. Every realistic candidate has his advantages and disadvantages, not a decision I would rush into!!!

Let's hope they do the right thing this time, instead of appointing their mates. If they do, the supporters will see right through it.
Dont worry Shaggy is going after his mates and if they get Sherwood they will have ro pay big compensation. Hope he's worth it
