BACUP Borough are set for an emotional return to action at Padiham tomorrow following the death of Bryan Herbert.

Herbert, who played for Bacup for 11 years, died in hospital on Tuesday at the age of 27 – eight weeks after suffering a stroke.

Borough’s Lancashire Challenge Trophy tie at Nelson on Wednesday was called off as a mark of respect but they are due to take to the field in the North West Counties Premier Division at Padiham tomorrow.

Bacup boss Brent Peters has this week paid tribute to Herbert, who also represented Stacksteads St Josephs and the Little Queen’s pub team.

Peters said: “I gave Bryan his debut for Bacup Borough Football Club at the age of 16.

“From that moment Bryan remained loyal not only to Bacup Borough Football Club but his local roots of Bacup.

“Bryan Herbert’s legacy will always remain with me and Bacup Borough Football Club.

“There is a big void left that will never be filled. I am sure I speak for all the teams he has graced their shirt, that Bryan Herbert will be missed.”

Tomorrow is England’s annual ‘Non-League Day’ and Rams-bottom United hope for an increased attendance for their Evo-Stik First Division North game at home to Prescot.

Admission costs £7 for adults and £3.50 for concessions, with under 16s gaining entry for £1 when accompanied by an adult.

Clitheroe are also in action in Evo-Stik First Division North at Farsley, after winning the division’s fair play award for September. The Blues had one of the worst disciplinary records in the league last term and boss Paul Moore praised his players, saying: “What pleases me most is the way they’ve reversed the club’s disclipinary record so quickly.”

Chorley make the trip to Rushall Olympic in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Barnoldswick Town are in FA Vase action as they entertain Maine Road in the first round.

Colne are at home to Norton United in the North West Counties Premier Division, while in the First Division AFC Darwen host Ashton Town and Nelson travel to Chadderton.

n Eleven Chorley youth players are in the Lancashire under 18s squad. Adam Caunce, Scott Stringfellow, Daniel Rutherford, Luke Mckenna, Pedro Montiero, Connor Gaul, Luke Holden, Fenton Thorpe, Mason Ralph, Liam Grimshaw and Paddy McLoughlin have all been selected.
