Ewood fears as manager search goes on

BOLTON Wanderers look ready to steal a march on Blackburn Rovers in the race to appoint a new boss – as Ewood Park staff grow increasingly frustrated at being left in limbo.

The Lancashire Telegraph understand Rovers’ north west rivals are considering an approach for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already expressed his interest in the Ewood Park role, having sacked Owen Coyle just three days ago.

Mick McCarthy is also in Bolton’s sights as Rovers’ owners continue to procrastinate over their next move.

Rovers’ managerial search has been ongoing for almost two weeks now, after the resignation of Steve Kean, but it is understood the club are a long way from finding a replacement.

A host of big names are believed to be interested in the Ewood Park hot seat, including the likes of Javier Clemente, Solskjaer and Bernd Schuster.

Global advisor Shebby Singh met with managing director Derek Shaw and operations director Paul Agnew yesterday, with a list of potential names understood to have finally been drawn up.

Singh declined to comment on who was on the list. He said: “We are all very pleased with the calibre of candidates and there are a number of strong avenues that we wish to explore. However, we must appeal for patience and calm among supporters while the right decision is reached.

“Derek, Paul and I, in close liaison with the owners, are working hard to make sure we get the right man and while we don’t want it to take any longer than is necessary, we won’t be rushed. This is a big, big decision.”

Caretaker-boss Eric Black remains in temporary charge but he and his coaching staff are understood to be growing increasingly frustrated at a lack of clarity about their role in the club’s future.

They are fully committed to looking after things in the interim, with Black having yet to put himself forward for the role, but are growing concerned at the lack of direction being shown.

Some of Rovers’ squad are also understood to be concerned at the uncertainty surrounding the club, with all looking for answers from owners Venky’s.

Black & co are also seeking clarification on whether Singh had ruled him out of the managerial race to supporters as reported, although the Lancashire Telegraph understand he is still in the frame.

An Ewood insider, said: “Everyone is getting fed up. From the coaching staff to those in the offices at Ewood Park, to the players. It seems as though no one knows what is happening.

“People just want to know what the future has in store. There seems to be so much dithering that no one has actually got hold of this club.”

Meanwhile, first team coach Colin Hendry believes Black is an ideal candidate for the vacant position.

He said: “When you are looking at candidates for this position I don’t think you need to look any further than Eric Black. He’s got all the boxes ticked, that’s for sure.”

It just goes to show that after 2 years owning the club, Venkys have learned NOTHING.

Even if they havent appointed a new manager by now, you'd think they'd have been able to make a phone call to Mick MaC, Shearer or speak to Molde to sound them out about speaking to their manager etc etc to get the ball rolling - but no, of course not - that would be far too simple and obvious.

Venkeys' have proved time and again that they couldn't move fast if someone stuck a stick of dynamite up their @rses.

It does not really matter if Bolton make a quicker appointment than us, it really matters who makes the best appointment. Im giving them this one last chance to do something sensible and will wait until the process is over before judging them on that. Cannot really blame Black and Hendry for caring about staying in a job, thats a natural thing to do and a little bit of an irrelavance when set against the big picture of who takes over.
Dont get me wrong, these great fans posting here may well be right and its another screw-up but as I say Ill wait and see

The facts have been known for months, stop dithering, make a decision and go for it.
.....and please learn that you will never be able to run this company either at arms length or in the same way you run your chicken business. This is the "here and now" football business.

And I was one of those 5,000 and after having a season ticket for 25 years it is now about to be renewed again, but the wrong appointment and a majority of fans will vote with their feet again.

When we got Ince, when we had good football men in charge, did enough analysis go into that decision? At the time I thought it was a good choice but I didn't know if he was good tactician or not or whether he was able to improve players' fitness or pro-zone stats. I based my view on the fact that he was an ex-top player getting results in the lower leagues. He obviously interviewed well too. Clearly that's not enough.

I don't trust the current owners to do the right analysis but surely rushing them and creating a sense of panic isn't going to help.

We need a new manager before the Derby game. However I suspect that the delay lies in Pune. Perhaps the short listed candidates will be flown one by one to India to see if Mme Desai likes them. And a further thought: I wonder how much influence Mr Desai has with his wife? Nonetheless, given the quality of the people making the decision we could end up with Rick the Magic Pixie!

You may well be right about Sherwood being old buddies with Hendry and possibly being under pressure to keep Hendry maybe not Black so much, but I think and hope Tim Sherwood is a a honourable man would want to do the right thing for all of us at Rovers,which means both Black and the mouthpiece Hendry gone.
Whats the point of it all if they cannot give us a clean slate.

I hope Tim Sherwood is honourable too. I'm just wondering what is going on behind the scenes when 2 weeks later, there's still no movement. I can't believe Venkys are just so indecisive and slow, I think there's more to it than that. So of course I'm fearing the worse. What is motivating Venkys - do it right this time, or continue asset-stripping with some kind of cover-up or cheap option to disguise it?

Fingers crossed that it will all come good and the speck of light at the end of the tunnel has got much brighter this time next week!

Facts are facts Midas --- 2 points out of 9 , and the both of them have a history of managerial melt downs / every time either one of them has tried management its ended up being a miserable failure , Rovers simply cannot afford to take a chance on these two ,they had 3 games they failed.
Any applicant would not need to be that good to do better than Black and the Hendry, no more fat salaries for people that cannot do their jobs.

I AM A MANCHESTER UNITED SUPPORTER, But I Hate the Venkys and all the idiots running Rovers, they have destroyed a once proud club and one of the best run clubs in the country they are totally and utterly clueless my advice is to sell up and never return. I want the GLAZERS out of OLD TRAFFORD they have put the club in so much debt it is unreal both United and Rovers need new Owners and Owners who will provide support to the Manager and give him time, I think all clubs should learn from United because they very nearly sacked Fergie in 1990 but they kept faith in him and look what has happened: 12 League Titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups,3 European Cups and been champions of the world twice at Club Level and this it what happens when you give the Manager time
