Pioneer 79 Swimming Club have gained promotion
Pioneer 79 Swimming Club’s younger swimmers competed in the Division ‘A’ ‘swim-off’ for the 2012 North West Micro League competition. Having finished in eighth place overall, they were up against Fleetwood from their division, Clitheroe ‘A’ and Liverpool ‘A’ from Division ‘B’.
The event, for nine to 12-years-old, took place at the Palatine Pool, Blackpool and there some fantastic performances – with Pioneer 79 winning the majority of the races. However in the relays, Pioneer 79 were in a class of their own.
The club, now based at Accrington Academy, finished first overall with a a total 150 points, 29 ahead of second-placed Clitheroe ‘A’ meaning they have now been promoted to the ‘A’ Division.
Fleetwood, who were third, were delegated to the ‘B’ Division as they finished with 111 points while fourth placed Liverpool ‘A’, with 90 points, remain in the ‘B’ Division for the forthcoming season.
The club moved into their ‘new home’ at Accrington Academy’s newly built swimming pool in September. With a newly re-vamped swim programme, the club says there is a section to suit all needs, from Learn to Swim, Competitive Groups, Sprint Groups, Swim Fit and Masters.
