Bacup bounce back from defeat

BACUP bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Norton United thanks to a double strike from Haydn Paul.

Alsager arrived at the Brian Boys West View Stadium in confident mood having beaten Norton themselves 5-2 in midweek.

But they soon found themselves a goal down as it took Bacup just four minutes to open the scoring.

Daniel Cocks corner was turned onto the crossbar and Paul was on hand to powerfully head home the rebound.

Bacup completely dominated the opening exchanges Adam Dale, Cocks and Shane Birtles going close in the first half.

The visors were more a threat after the break but Bacup extended their lead in the 53rd minute.

Kingsley Williams’ cross from the right was deliberately left by Dale so that Paul could turn home his third goal in as many games.

Cocks was denied his hat-trick by a late intervention from Ben Clarkson to divert his effort for a corner.

Alsager pulled a goal back in the 64th minute when Tom Parkes fed Jack McKay who calmly stabbed the ball home past Ryan Jones.
