Ex-Morton striker set for Clitheroe bow

CLITHEROE could hand a debut to new signing Mark Buchan in tomorrow’s Evo-Stik First Division North fixture at home to Goole Town.

Blues boss Paul Moore has brought in the 20-year striker from Witton Albion, where he helped the Cheshire side secure promotion to the Premier Division last season with 10 goals in nine starts.

Buchan previously played for Scottish Second Division side Greenock Morton and Moore is pleased to have secured his services.

“Mark is a quick and energetic forward who has a real eye for goal,” said the Clitheroe manager.

The Blues, who have won the inaugural First Division North fair play award for August and September, saw Tuesday’s match at Radcliffe postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. They are currently third in the table and face a Goole side who go into the game sitting second bottom.

Ramsbottom United make the trip to New Mills tomorrow, while Chorley travel to Eastwood Town in the Premier Division.

Third-placed Barnoldswick Town go into their North West Counties Premier Division match at Runcorn Town after a 4-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare in the first round of the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday. Kieron Lee struck twice on his debut, with Lewis Jordan and Mark Threlfall also on target to earn a trip to Harrogate Railway Athletic in the second round.

Bacup Borough host Alsager tomorrow, while Colne entertain Winsford United and Padiham are at home to Glossop North End.

In the first round of the League Challenge Cup, AFC Darwen entertain Leek CSOB and Nelson are at home to Rochdale Town.
