Black content with Rovers draw
9:42am Thursday 4th October 2012 in Sport
CARETAKER boss Eric Black admitted he was content despite Blackburn Rovers being forced to settle for a point away from home once more last night.
Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic in Black’s first match in temporary charge on Saturday, following the resignation of boss Steve Kean, and followed that up with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest last night.
It was Rovers’ first goalless draw for 60 games, since they held Arsenal at the Emirates late in the 2010/11 season.
The result moved Rovers up two places to fifth in the Championship table, back into the play-off spots.
Black said: “It was a good point and we maintained our unbeaten away record.
“I’m not going to kid anyone on, we are disappointed we didn’t create more going forward but I thought the lads showed fantastic attitude and defended well.
“We know we have to be more offensive at home and I think we have to score more goals at home. We know that.
“But the lads committed to a new system and apart from a couple of chances here and there Nottingham Forest didn’t create too much themselves.
“And we should have had a penalty on Jordan Rhodes in the second half.
“Whether it was an accident or not is irrelevant. That was wthout question a penalty.”
Rovers have now drawn four of their first five away games in the Championship this season.
They also took a point at Ipswich and Leeds, before winning 5-3 at Bristol City.
They switched to a 3-5-2 formation for the game, with Scott Dann, Grant Hanley and Gael Givet all teaming up as centre backs.
And they were able to welcome back Colin Kazim-Richards from a knee injury as a second-half substitute.
The Turkish international had not featured for more than a month since a victory over Hull.
Black remains in temporary charge while Rovers search for a new boss, with the Scot among those under consideration for the role.
Rovers return to action at home to Wolves on Saturday.
“I’ve read I will still be here for the Wolves game,” he said.
“I’m comfortable with the position I’m in and so are the club.
“I’ll continue doing the job until I’m told otherwise.”

In his interview above he openly admits that the team needed to create more- he is not pulling the wool over our eyes (I refer to Keans after match interview after the Spurs game last season - no shots!!)
Unfortunately, there are not too many sides around who will create tons of chances per game and be defensively strong...no matter who is in charge we will never be one of those teams.
Black has been put in temporary charge whilst we get the right man.. lets just give him a break!!

If he is just caretaker (Shebby) then I will be happy for him to keep it tight as he can and keep getting draws. But that is obviously not enough for the long run and I HOPE Venkys see sense and get a top notch manager asap.
Happy with a draw 0-0

I am a little concerned because I remember having similar thoughts straight after Allardyce was sacked. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE BLACK THE FULL MANAGER!!!!!

Agree with what has been said in earlier posts re Black, yes let's get behind the team at the moment until we get a real manager. Its been 2 years since we had one after all.
But settling for a draw was not what it was about last night, Forest deserved to win, we were lucky, and that is without their 2 main strikers.
Venkys need to move quickly before we fall behind the pack.

Let's not expect miracles after two years of nightmares.
We need to go for the throat on Saturday though, hopefully in front of the biggest crown for many months.

Whoever the new manager is will have to do some wheeling and dealing by getting the underperformers out and replacing them with players who can do the job

!
So after 9 months Black never felt strong enough to have a quiet word with Gollum (sorry I just refuse to use his name) or he agreed with everything that was happening.
So either way that’s a no, no from me. He may, one day, make a fantastic manager but his actions (or lack of) prove to me he is not the man we need right now.
Pay Redknapp £1M for the next 9 months add a £2M bonus if he gets us promoted. In the meantime we can look for someone who can take us further once this has been achieved.
Let’s face it Redknapp won't need to move home because he know the job is only till next summer and if he doesn’t get us promoted then we are in the brown stuff for a long time, so £3M is small price to pay.

Went last night and after a promising first 15 minutes we were just awful.

for what ,not going past the half way line
Not so hard getting a draw when you don`t try and wi.
unfortunately Black and Hendry both coaching/management failures ,except the latter is a more dishonourable person much worse than a football coach failure.

Well you would be happy with a draw if you thought it would give you a chance at the job... Personally, I think it's a slight improvement on kean but up front he was as clueless as kean at the back... Why put Dunn on for Rhodes? Are you mad black??! Where was nunes? He would have got the balls in the box that it sounded like Rhodes/Gomes/kazim needed?!

Yep, thats pretty much the top and bottom of it, anyone who thought that this would be a walk in the park, maybe went to the same school of positives as SK.
