Darwen move clear at the top

Darwen moved six points clear at the top of the North West Counties League with this well-deserved victory over the side from Oldham.

The home team took charge of the match from the kick off, with Chadderton having to do some defending, but the first real chance occurred on seventeen minutes as a Bobby Langford drive was blocked on the line.

The goal that was coming arrived on twenty two minutes when an Anthony Harkness cross found Ryan Steele unmarked inside the right half of the box. He cut inside and fired a shot through Chadderton keeper Dale Latham into the net.

Darwen were gifted a second goal on 54 when Chadderton tried to play the ball out of defence but Steve Lee pounced to fire in to an unguarded goal from the edge of the area.

Chadderton continued to battle and Matt Russell pulled a goal back in the last minute which was no more than a consolation.
