Shaw: Rovers job will attract major interest

DEREK Shaw believes the vacant Blackburn Rovers managerial position will attract significant interest from people “in and out of work” as the search for Steve Kean’s successor begins.

Rovers’ managing director told the Lancashire Telegraph yest-erday both he and global advisor Shebby Singh had already heard from potential candidates and that a strategy would be drawn up at a meeting today.

Shaw, who confirmed Kean’s Friday night’s resignation came as a shock to everyone at the club, insisted it was time to move on from the past as they look forward to “interesting times”.

Shaw said: “I had a chat with Shebby Singh on Saturday and will sit down on Monday and discuss a strategy. I already have had one or two names of people who would be interested and I think Shebby has also had one or two.

“We have gone past the days when the job will be advertised.

“People who are interested will get in touch with us, either themselves or through their agents.

“There is an international break coming up as well which helps but it is difficult to put a time scale on it. We don’t know what might happen and we are open to everything at the moment.

“It is a big decision. We have to keep the owners informed with what is going on and we have to advise them and help them where we can. These are extremely interesting times.

“Eric Black will remain in charge for the foreseeable future.

“Without a shadow of a doubt we all have an open mind on what happens next. I have been involved with appointing managers before and most come across well and say all the right things.

“The proof at the end of it all is in the results. We know the right decision that has to be made because it is important we get back to the Premier League.”

Shaw revealed the first he heard about Kean’s exit was when he received a phone call from the media on Friday night, telling him Kean’s lawyers had released a statement with his resignation on.

He admits he has no idea what prompted his decision on the eve of Saturday’s trip to Charlton, but was keen for everyone to move on and look to the future.

He said: “This is a fresh start. Steve has decided to move on and Blackburn Rovers have to move on.

“There has been enough said.

“In fairness, he probably felt that we can’t go on (the way things were). You win a couple of games and things go quiet, then you lose and there’s booing and the aggravation that goes with that.

“He’s a married man, he’s got children and I think he’s just had enough so he’s decided to call it a day. It can happen to all of us.”

Enough about Kean - the odious one has gone let that be an end to it. I never want to hear his name again.

Get Shearer/Sherwood/New
ell in for the Wolves game. We don't want weeks and weeks of rumour and speculation in the media and among the fans. We had enough of that over the last two years. We are tired of all that rubbish. Just do your job Mr. Shaw and Venkys and get the right people in now.

The proof at the end of it all, is the results. So why did we stick with Kean for so long? His lack of results is the reason we are in this mess now. What a strange club we have. Whoever comes in, needs to be a strong character and not let these boardroomers and owners interfere in any way. For me, that's why we need a big character like Hoddle, Redknapp or Curbishley. I'd love Solksjaer myself, but the club just isn't right for someone like that at the moment. Make the right decision Venkys

The 'jungle drums' in and around Mellor are banging very loudly that Harry Redknapp was at Stanley House over the weekend. I cannot for a minute believe this, unless of course he and his wife were trying out the brand new spa facilities!!!

you need a strong character with a thick skin as some will not be happy with any appointment.

Shaw and Shebby are as deluded as Kean was. If Shaw says he has experience of appointing Managers, that was history / years ago at Preston North End and what was his track record (ask PNE fans)? If they think there will be suitably qualified men queueing up for the job, I will be amazed - given what has gone on and no doubt will go on. It all rests with our owners (who and where ever they are). We we've not heard from them in India - are they still in shock? Final interviews will be over there, so who ever is shortlisted will get a free trip to see Mrs. D, who will ultimately make the decision. . Even with Kean going, we are not out of the woods yet and regrettably all those connected to the club (except supporters) can't see the wood for trees. The farce / tragedy / soap opera that is BRFC continues; it is far more entertaining than the football. "Move on" Mr Shaw, and take the rest of the 'management' team with you.

Whoever is interviewed will have to take his wife with him to the final interview in India - Mrs. D. will no doubt want to talk to her. I wonder if Mrs. D. has sent SK a card saying "Sorry you are leaving" (do they have Clinton Cards in India?). Anyway, I don't think if they all worked together they could pick flowers, let alone a Football Manager; I hope I am proved wrong.

ell - excellent players and servants of the club, but what is involved in managing a Championship Club and could they do the job? The list of excellent players, and fan's favourites, who have failed as managers, is endless. Hill and Grayson have made good starts in management and seem ambitious. If we are looking at building bridges between club and supporters, Gary Flitcroft could probably do that. But, please, don't employ a flash marquee name. It's about rebuilding a club which has been disasterously dismantled, and putting its heart back in.

Eric Black will be in charge for the 'foreseeable future'

This in itself is a very worrying statement. We need a new manager in place and the speculation put to bed very quickly so that the club can get on with trying to get promotion. Leaving a caretaker in place for anything more than 2-3 games could be fatal with regards to trying to win this league. Whilst I don't doubt that Eric Black would be an improvement on Kean (at least he has played football and managed before) his name shouldn't even be whispered when discussing the new manager. We need a fresh start and a proper manager, not Kean's buddy and another 'coach' - appointing him would prove Venky's are doing things on the cheap and have not learnt anything from their mistakes.

Now the celebrations have just about stopped after Friday's wonderful news, I too think Shaw and Singh are deluded if they think experienced managers will be queuing up for the job.

Everyone in football can see that the club is now run by a bunch of incompetents - ask yourself this serious question - would you want to work for this shower?

Somebody at the club has got to get the next appointment spot on, or I fear the chaos will go on and on. I've got everything crossed, but I'm still worried!

Its OK Benal13 ,
We all know why "WILD ROVER " is ranting on like a halfwit , because when you have gambled all your money away and then "borrowed:" the life savings from your friends then gambled all that away ,and you go bankrupt , you need to use all sorts of cunning and caniving tactics to make yourself appear a decent fellow , but please stop using the LET to post good things about yourself to get the job as manager at Rovers it won`t happen and anyway look at your management record ,basically pathetic ,sorry CH you are the weakest link.
Blacks management track record /history seems to be taking over as caretaker from a manager who he worked for that was left usually sacked then he would hang around for 5/6 games as caretaker manager then the club he worked for would realise the guys not a MANAGER sack him and then the cycle would start again.

Having seen some of your previous posts you have clearly got your carer/nurse/home help to type this for you, what a treasure they must be, the ability to speak dingle AND work for less than minimum wage. If I were you I'd concentrate on your own problems, myriad though they may be, a good one to begin with would be your obvious and overwhelming envy you have for all things BRFC, why else would you be constantly cajoling your poor domestic help to type your drivel?

are you trying to break your record for thumbs down numb nuts !!!!!!!!!!!!
Nah Ronnie, Wild Rover was just taking the peace out of you as you sre A Dingle troll , like numb nuts Benal whoever...
You just cant get over your chief whipping boy being sacked, you have no bullets to fire any more , desperate to keep the Rovers hate going, yet you try to call me a half wit?
