Who do you want to see as the next Blackburn Rovers manager?

Who should take over from Steve Kean? Who should take over from Steve Kean?

THIS is your chance to have a say on who you think should be the next manager of Blackburn Rovers.

Large sections of Rovers supporters were celebrating on Friday after Steve Kean left the club, with the search for his successor now underway.

A string of names have been mentioned with regards potentially filling the role as Rovers bid to find the right man to take them back to the Premier League.

Opinions appear varied about what route Rovers should go down next and this is your chance to share your view.

Should Rovers look to attract someone like Mick McCarthy or Harry Redknapp, managers who have had success in long managerial careers?

Would you like to see a Rovers ‘legend’ return to Ewood Park?

Would the likes of Alan Shearer, Tim Sherwood or Garry Flitcroft – people who know the tradition of the club – be the right choice?

Is there a manager who has not been mentioned who you think would be ideal?

Or is Eric Black your man?

Have your say by giving us the name of the one manager you would like Venky’s to appoint.

State the name of your choice either by email to andrew.cryer@nqnw.co.uk, by letter to Sports Desk, Lancashire Telegraph, High Street, Blackburn, BB1 1HT or online in the comments section underneath this story.

The vote will close at midday on Wednesday, with results published in Thursday’s Lancashire Telegraph.

Somebody experienced in the championship, somebody who is a proven winner and above all, a man of honesty and integrity. Basically, everything voldemort wasn't.

Billy Davies!! I really dont think the likes of Shearer or Sherwood should even be in contention, why spoil a legend? If they dont do the job they will be blamed, and we will soon forget 95.

Whoever they appoint, please don't make the same mistake again and appoint someone who is not a No 1(Eric Black)!!
Although he was thrown into the hot seat at the last minute on Saturday, he still managed the impossible and picked a side more negative and more paceless(is that a word?!) than even Kean managed!
I would like Holloway to be approached but would he really leave a stable position where he can do no wrong to take over here.Only if he was promised no interference in football matters, and what are the chances of that?!

Dont think either Shearer or Sherwood are the right people to take over - maybe good coaches but as we have experienced in the past good coaches dont make good managers!!
Blackburn doesn't have in my view the pulling power/structure for a top name so would be looking for a sound proven Manager who has succeeded with limited resources.
My choice would be a man that has mixed it at different levels of the game and has a proven Managerial Record - but whether he would leave a well managed club for the idiotic style of the Venkys who knows - Ian Holloway.,

It's Monday morning and Steve Kean is down at the Job Centre signing on for job seekers allowance:
CLERK: what sort of job are you looking for Mr Kean? How do you see yourself in the future?
KEAN: I see myself as the next Bill Shankley.
CLERK: Really! Now let me see; what skills do you have?
KEAN: Taking the positives out of a situation and footballing genius!
CLERK: Very good; and do you have any achievements on your CV?
KEAN: Oh yes! I recently took a football club into the English Championship.
CLERK: The fans must have been delighted.
KEAN: Oh yes. They certainly made a big fuss about me.
CLERK: And can you give me the names of two well respected people who are familiar with your work and character who can provide good references?
KEAN: Colin Hendry and Jerome Anderson.
CLERK: Driving license?
KEAN: Errm yes, but I prefer to use public transport. People tell me I'm very green.
CLERK: Any international experience?
KEAN: Well, I am highly regarded in India. I've heard it said they are bonkers about me in India.
CLERK: Now I must ask this: do you have any weaknesses at all?
KEAN: None whatsoever! Who told you that?
CLERK: None? Are you sure?
KEAN: It's those swine isn't! Those swine that write in to the Telegraph. Well alright some people, who don't know me, say I am not defensively minded. But it's nay gide to be defensive, is it, so I take that as a positive.
CLERK: and have you had to overcome any disadvantages.
KEAN: You mean me coming from Scotland?
CLERK: I think that's nearly it. Do you have anything to add?
KEAN: Yes, plenty! I am a good team motivator, and a noted talent spotter. Oh, and I am modest too, never known to exaggerate my talents and achievements.
CLERK: Finally, could you let me know what your leisure interests are?
KEAN: Well, I have a particle accelerator in the garden. Been looking for the Higgs Bosun. Haven't seen the little beggar yet. On my recent trips to India I have been building a model of the Taj Mahal out of match sticks, but I've had to put that aside all of a sudden. I like holiday trips to Portugal and I get involved with a lot of what I like to call, ahem, "socialising" especially with my friend Braveheart and his pensioner group.
CLERK: Well, that's excellent Mr Kean. We shouldn't have any difficulty in placing a man of your calibre. In fact we have been notified just this morning of a vacancy that has come up suddenly over the weekend. It should suit you down to the ground. It is as the Number Two to a charming man, Shabby Singh. We are likely to have a similar vacancy coming up in Burnley that you could wait for, but quite frankly you are far too good for that.

Peter Henni says...
9:32am Mon 1 Oct 12

First off i'd like to say thank god Kean is out, after nearly 2 years of torture, he's finally out.
For the candidates, i'm sure Eric Black is great an all, but to get Rovers promoted and to stay in the PL, Rovers need to appoint a familiar face in manager history.
Start off with the obvious contender, Tim Sherwood, nothing gets the old Rovers blood flowing again then a member of the winning team, with AVB hiring him at Spurs, and saying his futures his own, then we may have an early replacement.
I think we should however, rule Shearer out automatically, after his abyssmal career as manager at Newcastle.

Old faces including Harry Redknapp, King Kenny and Mick McCarthy are the obvious best choices, as we all now, Kenny took us to the top, Harry is also a fantastic candidate for the job after years of success at Spurs (I'm sure he'll be itching to get back into a managers job instead of sitting on BBC 1 listening to big eared 'Mr. Walkers' Lineker).
McCarthy is also a strong contender due to his promotion statistics, however, in previous months at Wolves, he has shown weakness, this raises alarms.
Another name mentioned is ex-Villa boss, Alex McLeish, i have to say no-no-no to McLeish, frankly, he just seems like another Kean, we all saw a great Aston Villa side tumble down the PL table, barely escaping relegation.
Finally, my favourite manager, Ian Holloway, because of his wit.
He did bring Blackpool up to the PL, however, he did take them down, a possible dark horse of the candidates.

My choice would either be Kenny Dalglish, Harry Redknapp or Mick McCarthy.

It has to be a big name manager that will take NO ****! Simple as that.

I honestly believe that the right man will bring his own people and encourage better ways of running the club. IF the Venky's are genuinley wanting to get their investment back on track and right their wrongs, then they must appoint someone like McCarthy, Redknapp, Curblishley or Hoddle - someone who has been a number one for years, who knows the game and the runnings of a club inside out. VENKY'S MUST BE WILLING TO LISTEN AND IMPLEMEMNT THE NEW MANAGERS SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS AND GIVE HIM FULL BACKING.

If they do the above, we'll be back on track by Xmas and with a bit more investment in the defence in January we can push for automatic promotion.

If they go for another YES MAN, a number 2 or kit man on the cheap who wants to play at being a manager, well, we all know how that will turn out!!!!!!!!!

The Ewood set up demands a strong individual who can do the job without being influenced by owners or supporters - my choice would be De Canio at Swindon. If you ever played the game you would know that you deploy tactics that win games. If this means a 'they don't like it up em' approach then that is what you do. Unless the club's got Man City type of money then you have to cut your cloth accordingly. Bottom line is winning games and getting the club promoted as quickly as possible - particularly with the new TV rights money on offer. Fail to get promoted this season or next and we could see Rovers plunge much further. We need a no-nonsense manager and there are experienced candidates available without having to shell out a penny of compensation for an inexperienced one.

1) Ian Holloway
2) Paulo Di Canio
3) Gus Poyet

Can we persued them to come, well a packed out ewood park against wolves and a crowd 100% behind the team would help. Its going to be intersting to see the gate at wolves, many promised they would be back, Hope they are.

It's hard to dispute the rational objections, but the idea of 20,000+ rovers fans singing Shearer's name on Saturday is an incredible thing to imagine in contrast to the last 2 years. Usually I'd oppose romantic reasons behind managerial appointments, but I think our current predicament calls for a little romance. The heart has been ripped from the club, and having our greatest ever player on the touchline is a way to restore that heart.

Plus I think this is a decent opportunity for Al - we have a good shot at promotion and will often be playing sides we should be turning over convincingly. It beats a relegation scrap as a proving ground for a young manager.

Having said all this, I will only believe we are capable of making a good appointment when I actually see it.

Keith Hill seems a decent bloke and I think he would come also, but his lack of top level football counts against him.

McCarthy can get a team out of the championship but always seem to bring them back down again. Don't need any yo-yo managers at Ewood.

Benitez and Redknapp are both decent 'old school' type managers who would be good choices but don't think either would want to come.

Ian Holloway but why would he leave Blackpool.
Rafa Benitez but he wont drop down to this level, same as 'Arry Redknapp.

i think Mick McCarthy would be the type of manager we need, his teams didnt play bad football, they play a mix of passing ad direct football and i think he would do very well.

A Name that hasnt been bandied about yet but is looking fora job and certainly wouldnt take any sh1t - Roy Keane, throw in G neville as his assistant to boot :-)

How about. Tim Flowers, goalkeeper coach. Graham le Saux full back coach, Kevin Moran centre half coach. David Batty midfield coach, Dave Wagstaffe winger coach, Shearer/Sutton forwards coach. Tony Parkes/ Tugay/Salgado general coaches. Overall manager, Harry Rednapp, for experience.
Kenny as figurehead. That should cover all bases. Shebby Singh, court jester.

and as much i would love to see a former Rover come back like Mark Hughes did i dont think Shearer, Flitcroft or Shwerwood should be considered just yet... unless they came in as an understudy type of role....

Kenny Dalglish or Harry Redknapp would be amazing to see either back here with the type of experience we need but cant see it happening... would cost venkys quite a bit to get either down here and we all know venkys love spending money... :-/

Not sure about Mick McCarthy... he didnt do brilliantly with wolves towards the end but i think that given the lack of experience and expense of other managers to bring in i think he will be venkys choice

What you must do is have another open meeting with Shebby Singh as it was pure Phoenix Nights. You'd be better off with Brian Potter running your club too. In the words of Potter, your senior management couldn't find their arses with both hands.

Liberace would make a better manager than Kean....it's likely to be Black and/or Hendry if venky's past inept management is anything to go by which gets us back to square one again.

In an ideal world its unlikely to be a proven premier league manager especially with venkys clowns in charge. Preference for Newell, Sherwood ok but cant see him moving from London, Hughes again yes but he wont come back, McCarthy absoutely not, Billy Davis no thanks.

Don't expect an appointment anytime soon as venkys (along with anderson the other two of the three that need to go next) will dither around. They are the fundamental problems still remaining at the club. Just watch those assets continue to disappear......

Please for all heavens above lets not bring in some coach, ex player or legend with no management experience, please not ! Look at Paul Ince, Steve Kean, Sammy Lee, Alley Mc Coist , Alex Mc Leish and so on...They all had disasters and there records proved it. Tim Sherwood and Gary Flitcroft? Are we having an absolute laugh? None are proven and it will just end up in tears. Listen we need a proven experience manager in..amm lets see..Alan Curbisley? Proven everywhere hes been. He would be perfect. Mick Mc Carthy? Got Wolves into the premiership and kept them up! Listen lets hope this Venkys crowd wake up and smell the coffee, first they sack Big Sam whom was doing an excellent job, he couldn't of taken us any further (Ok the football was boring) but results is all that matter) then the venkys said they wanted exiting attacking football, but who did they bring in? A bloke who never even proven himself (Steve Kean) and the football was worse than it ever could be! Disaster. So they cant take a chance in doing this again, please not because if they do bring in some legend like Sherear or some clown that has not even proved himself! .. Well then Blackburn Rovers are going to be just stuck in the championship for a long time like Middlesborough and leeds...last chance Venkys! Get it right!

Newbies -Sherwood,possibly Shearer as he didnot get time,Flitcroft.

Exstg managers Hill,Ollie, worth considering.
The best guy in my opinion is Redknapp as he can attract the best players like he did at Portsmouth Defoe and Crouch etc etc we need someone who can wheel and deal and borrow a few defenders as that is very important to us because its the reason we are drawing and not winning every game.

O.K. did well ar Everton for had some time as Fergies asst manager , did well for Rangers and Scotland (if you count that ) would need a young assistant manager , maybe Flitcroft , but as you say in the end when he was there Everton started struggling , not many older/experienced managers around that would do the job , don`t think you would get Arry or Curbishley, like the idea of getting Roy Keane and /or Gary Neville , think they could bring a lot in, perhaps with Carragher coming in with either one of them, one thing guaranteed, we need a clean slate , Black and Hendry must go , even though I think Black might have been able to do a good job ,but like Hendry he is tainted now with his backing of Kean.
Kean hired both of them and of course Hendry should never have been brought to Rovers in the first place with his scandalous recent behaviour., it must be embarrasing now to be stuck with a swindler as our defensive coach, and all the jokes we hear all over the place ,about about our pensioners(Murphy,Go
mez,MGP) being told not to loan Hendry any money as he does not pay pensioners back. .

2:32pm Mon 1 Oct 12

If the people in positions of influeance at Ewood don't at the very least sound Rafa Benitez out for this job then they should be shot.

Rafa Benitez is head and shoulders above all other suggestions. Normally I would expect that a manager of his calibre would reject us, however there are mitigating circumstances. He has lived in the northwest for 8 years, he has a young family who are settled in the country and he is available. He might turn us down, but I think he would say yes. We have to go and talk to BENITEZ.

Mr Purple says...
2:41pm Mon 1 Oct 12

If Venkys want to be taken seriously by the football world; if Shebby Singh wants credibility; if Derek Shaw understands that BRFC are a big club when compared to the likes of PNE; if Paul Agnew wants to do something other than just freeload, then GO AND GET BENITEZ.

Andy Cryer, you know how clueless the regime at Ewood are, maybe as a journo, you should ask Benitiez, because I've no confidence in these clowns making an approach as they couldn't see what is available under their noses.

For the very reasons that many are assuming that Redknapp won't come because he won't leave the sarf, those very reasons are why we do have a chance to get Benitez.

CLERK: The fans must have been delighted.
KEAN: Oh yes. They certainly made a big fuss about me.
CLERK: And can you give me the names of two well respected people who are familiar with your work and character who can provide good references?

KEAN: Well, I have a particle accelerator in the garden. Been looking for the Higgs Bosun. Haven't seen the little beggar yet. On my recent trips to India I have been building a model of the Taj Mahal out of match sticks, but I've had to put that aside all of a sudden. I like holiday trips to Portugal and I get involved with a lot of what I like to call, ahem, "socialising" especially with my friend Braveheart and his pensioner group.

The leading contenders according to the press & bookies.

Sherwood, Shearer, Tugay……negatives
….not one of them is a proven manager(do we really want to go down that route again….remember that Scottish bald chap;-)….

Positives, none

Redknapp…..negativ
es….can anyone really see him tracking up norff from Sandbanks…Harry is happy helping out at Bournemouth until a big southern club comes calling….

Positives, none

Benitez….negatives
…..plenty of Europe’s top league clubs he could have is pick from why would he want a small town second tier club!...

Positives, none

Holloway…..negativ
es…..he’s well informed of the goings on with the regime at Ewood,…

Positives… managed at this level and higher, lives local to Blackburn, could lose is star play Ince and that might make him re-think is position.

Hill….. negatives, Keith is his own man and the Indians want someone in situ they can control.

Positives, Ex Rover with proven managerial record, down to earth says it as it is.

Grayson negatives, none

Positives, Ex Rover with proven managerial record. Tony Parkes was is mentor…..worked under similar types as the regime ie controlling types Bates ,Oystons…..Knows and can get the best out of our record signing…and seems a decent guy…biggest plus got Blackpool out the mess a certain Braveheart left them in.

Two and a half years ago I touted for Grayson to replace Allardyce and nothing has changed my mind…..SIMON GRAYSONS BLUE & WHITE ARMY…….

Defensive organisation as a priority and a face that would strike fear into the hearts of our lackadaisical players!!

Who on earth will be stupid enough take the job on?

Owners who don't have a clue what a football looks like let alone how the game is played or what it actually means to the people that really matter, the fans.

Shebby Singh, a TV pundit who blows with the wind "in charge" (sic), overseeing everything the manager does, buying players the manager has never seen.

Just imagine the scenario, new manager sitting at his desk mulling over the next match, knock on door, shouts "come in".

In walks x, y, or z, manager asks "Who are you?", x, y or z says in whatever his language happens to be "Hi boss, I'm your new centre half, I'm playing on Saturday".

And then the poor sod will have the boo boys to look forward to the moment Shebby puts a foot wrong for him.

I agree with one possibility though, after watching Barnsley absolutely wipe the floor with us Keith Hill would probably be a good choice, but at Barnsley he controls things, he has an excellent set up, some decent players and a management structure that supports him.

I really don't think he, or any other decent manager would be that stupid though.

His defensive skills and tactical know how were spotted by Roy Hodgson who then appointed him an England coach.

No-one has mentioned Neville, yet he lives in the North West and may be worth approaching to see if he fancies the job.

Harry Redknapp, Jurgen Klinsmann, Rafa Benitez and Kenny Dalglish are names we should be looking at... Not managers who have either none or not good enough experience ala Sherwood, Shearer etc...

So much for my little joke. Seriously though, it HAS to be someone with managerial experience at this level to higher, but then you have to ask, who would want to come here. It could only be someone who is currently unemployed or someone who is already at a more badly managed club than ours, if that's possible to imagine. We can rule out Shearer. For a start he's Newcastle through and through, also he's inexperienced. You can also forget Redknapp. He's never been further north than Tottenham to manage a club and he ain't going to leave his mansion on Sandbanks. It's going to be a difficult call but going by Venkys actions, so far, it's going to be somebody who's cheap and does what he's told, which rules out any manager worth his salt.

There's a lot of suggestions for managers who are currently in employment but I doubt Venky's will be willing to pay compensation to another club, they probably feel they've spent enough already this season.

I also don't think Shearer, Tugay or Sherwood are the answer either. Sentiment doesn't make a good manager.

Christoph Daum would be a great signing, but he's only second on my list. I think we need someone who has experience managing in this division, who will command respect from the players and staff, and who won't take any sh*t from the likes of Shebby Singh. For those reasons alone, my personal preference would be...

Keane in!

That's right, Roy Keane, with Gary Neville as his #2.

As a Spurs fan I very much hope you get Sherwood. Levy will demand £3m for him and we won't even bother replacing him - who needs an assistant first team coach anyway? What you must do is have another open meeting with Shebby Singh as it was pure Phoenix Nights. You'd be better off with Brian Potter running your club too. In the words of Potter, your senior management couldn't find their arses with both hands.
This is the world in which we live, Mr Tottingham.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to be the best choice by far to take a team that was near relegation to their first league title in over 100 years if im not mistaken is near miraculous, and he is also looking like retaining that title this year too so it is not fluke for sure, he is maticulous, young and hungry all the things we need in a manager, for me he ticks all the boxes and his release clause is only £69000 so is pennys to compared to the 3 mil that totenham want for sherwood. Great days and great positivity however can we not be copies of Kean with all the Missed placed drivel.
Kean " this is the best squad I have ever had" is evidently not true.
We have a defence that needs fixing a midfield with a mix of skill (tugay) fight (Robbie) pace and guile.
With spending probably limited in the near future in my opinion we need someone who can get 5. / 10% more out of what we have in addition to being massively tactically astute. JM at Chelsea making reaffirmed as early as 20 minutes into a game if needed.
Is there one manager who can do all of this as well as standing up to Venkys
In addition sorting out our recruitment policy / academy. There is probably with all the latest recruits an issue with all our successful youth squad last year feeling as if their prospects are no longer at the club
Massive job to do
Tim Sherwood doing this job at Spurs
Faz to sort defence out
Manager who's key asset is tactical nouse and PR to also get sponsors and fans back.
HR - lacking on tactical front
Holloway - would get the extra 10 % not sure on tactics
Benitez would take no messing off Venkys

So a massive appointment and if they were prepared to pay big for Rhodes then coughing up for a quality manager should be priority number one.

Liverpool fans seemed to warm to Benitez so Benitez with Sherwood as his number two??

Someone who would have solved most areas and combine everything would be Hoddle however he seems to have burnt his bridges with no way back.
