RAMSBOTTOM United’s venture into the unknown continues tomorrow when they play host to Northwich Victoria in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

It has been a season of firsts for the Riverside club – from a debut campaign in Evo-Stik League First Division North to the unchartered territory of the Trophy.

And thanks to a 1-0 victory at Brigg Town in the preliminary round, that adventure in the competition carries on tomorrow.

Rams co-manager Anthony Johnson is expecting a tough test against a side steeped in non-league tradition.

“Northwich Victoria are one of the biggest names non-league football who have been up there knocking on the door, ” said Johnson. “They may have fallen on hard times recently but we are not taking anything for granted.

“We know we are not going to go on and win the competition but we want to give a good account of ourselves, go as far as we can and perhaps pick up a bit of prize money for the club along the way.”

Chorley are also looking to progress in the Trophy when they entertain fellow Evo-Stik Premier League outfit Whitby Town.

Clitheroe are on league duty and face Warrington Town at home in Evo-Stik First Division North.

In the North West Counties League, Padiham look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they travel to Alsager Town in the Premier Division.

Barnoldswick entertain AFC Liverpool while Colne face a tough trip to in-form Stockport Sports.

Bacup go to bottom-of-the-table Norton United.

And in Division One leaders AFC Darwen, whose eight-match winning run was ended by Atherton LR last Saturday, play Chadderton at the Anchor Ground.
