SCOTT Dann admits Blackburn Rovers have yet to play well this season after they were knocked off the Championship top spot over the weekend.

A miserable 2-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough on Friday night ended Rovers' unbeaten start to the campaign, with Dann admitting the new-look squad has yet to click.

Rovers' centre half was quick to recognise they have to improve to earn Premier League promotion but was confident there was still far more to come.

He said: “We are really disappointed to have lost our unbeaten record, especially at home in the manner that we did. I don't think we played very well at all.

“If you look at the start overall, we have made a good start without ever really playing to our full potential. We are not really clicking with each other yet.

“There is definitely a lot more to come. I don't think there has been a game this season where we have played anywhere near our standards. Maybe 30 minutes here and there, but we know that ourselves.

“We have shown our character to grind the results out and get the points early doors and when we do finally start clicking, hopefully soon, we should push on.

“We know we have not played very well in any game, but we know the quality we have in the changing room and when we finally click we will be a top team in this league.”

Rovers travel to Charlton on Saturday looking to put Friday's defeat behind them, with Dann insisting a positive reaction is important.

“If you look back on the start, seven games in with 14 points, we all would have taken that but it is disappointing to lose of course,” he said.

“I don't think we played very well ourselves and made it a lot easier for them, they did play well though and fair play to them.

“Being at home and playing the way we did, we are really disappointed. We have to put that right against Charlton next weekend.

“It is a really tough league to play in and we are going to have ups and downs. We have to make sure when we do have a bad result, we put that right in the next game.”
