FULL TIME: Derby County 1 Burnley 2

CHARLIE Austin netted a brace at Pride Park for the second season in a row to help Burnley come from behind to beat Derby County this afternoon.

The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute when Jeff Hendrick crossed for Jamie Ward to swivel and find the net from 10 yards.

The Clarets were really struggling in defence and Connor Sammon fired wide when through minutes later.

But Burnley equalised against the run of play in the 32nd minute as Derby failed to clear a Ross Wallace free kick and the ball broke for Austin to clinically hammer home from an angle.

Eddie Howe's side could even have moved in front as Ben Mee headed Kieran Trippier's cross against the crossbar.

Sammon had a fine chance to put Derby ahead midway through the second half when played in, but his tame shot did not trouble Lee Grant.

The Clarets goalkeeper needed to be on top form minutes later though as he dived to his left to keep out Craig Bryson's effort as the unmarked midfielder homed in on goal.

But it was Burnley who grabbed the winner with a minute left as Austin, who scored twice in a 2-1 win at Derby last season, rose highest at the far post to power home Chris McCann's cross.

Burnley: Lee Grant; Kieran Trippier, David Edgar, Jason Shackell, Ben Mee; Ross Wallace, Dean Marney, Chris McCann, Junior Stanislas (Cameron Stewart 46); Charlie Austin (Marvin Bartley 90), Martin Paterson (Sam Vokes 61). Subs not used: Brian Jensen, Kevin Long, Joseph Mills, Brian Stock.

Derby: Frank Fielding; John Brayford, Jake Buxton, Richard Keogh, Gareth Roberts; Paul Coutts, Jeff Hendrick, Craig Bryson, Will Hughes (Michael Jacobs 78); Jamie Ward, Connor Sammon (Theo Robinson 81). Subs not used: Adam Legzdins, James O’Connor, Valentin Gjokaj, Conor Doyle, Nathan Tyson.

A much needed fillip to a very lacklustre start to the season.
Eddie, find out what it is, bottle it and use it as required.
Well done the Clarets.

Not getting excited Harry, just making comparisons between Mr Rhodes and Mr Austin. I think Austins record in The Champs compared to Rhodes exploits in Div 1 give him the edge at the moment. Therefore it is logical that his worth is greater than Rhodes. The point is how much more ? I would suggest at least 50% more right now making him worth 12 million. Unles of course Rovers have overpaid for Rhodes. We will see.

Well done Clarets. Unfortunately for us we will be lucky if we can keep hold of him come the January Transfer Window cause some clubs will come sniffing round and our penny-pinching board will snap their hands off. Then that will be q for a turf moor exist by the fans if they have any sense.

Just an observation, not a criticism. This column's best thumbs up/down rating is + or - 1.
BRFC is 30 odd.
We either don't hate/love enough about the Clarets to match BRFC or we are outgunned in artrociousness/excel
lence by the splendid Mr Kean and Venky's.

the telegraph has always been seen as a B********n paper especially since the evening star went.

Clarets will always buy and read the Burnley Express cos of the far better coverage.

Plus Claretsmad is a well subscribed site for all things BFC.

Then theres thelongside.co.uk

So the Telegraph is 4th in pecking order......

Note to self - Do not drink too much cloudy cider in Derby when its your turn to drive back the morning after.!
