Kean: 'We must improve defensively'
6:25pm Saturday 15th September 2012 in Sport
BLACKBURN Rovers boss Steve Kean admits his side have to improve defensively – but believes tonight is the time to focus on the positives.
A brilliant Jordan Rhodes brace helped Rovers to a thrilling 5-3 win at Ashton Gate, as two Rovers' goals in injury time moved Kean's men to the top of the Championship.
After Rhodes had cancelled out Albert Adomah's early opener, Rovers twice took the lead in the second half, through Nuno Gomes and Ruben Rochina, but were pegged back both times.
Scott Dann's injury time strike sealed the points though with Rhodes curling home a fifth on 95 minutes.
Kean said: “We know we have to improve defensively because we have conceded six goals away from home in the last two games. We will be analysing that on Monday.
“Tonight though we should look at us scoring some good goals against an excellent Bristol City side and going top of the league.
“It was hard work but not many teams will come to Bristol City and take points off them.”

When City scored their third goal to equalise I think every City fan in every stand stood up and pointed at the Rovers fans and sang 'who are you?'
Well when the 4th and 5th goals went in we reminded them just who we are: 'Top of the League' .....
Great day out....

Last season he kept saying the same thing and failed to stop the goals going in and in the end we conceeded 78 goals from 38 games.
We have an abundance of riches, attacking wise but whilst that SCUMMER is in charge of this club we will NEVER fulfil our potential.
Some fans (and sponsers) will never return, we run the risk of losing the next generation of Rovers supporters (as they, the 14-18 year olds currently staying away from Ewood find other things to occupy their Saturdays) and football wise it is irrelevant whether we go up or not.
If we go up, SCUM-MAN will stay and then we'll just get mullered because he can't organise defences to save his life, although no doubt he'll be quoted throughout next season as saying "we must sort out our defence !" and if we don't go up then morons in India will "apportion no blame" on the SCUMMER (and fellow owner) and he'll carry on spreading his poison throughout East Lancs until there is nothing left except hugh depts and a few "retarded", self proclaimed "Spartans, telling us all how great it is that they can park within 50 yeards of Ewood park on matchdays and never having to queue up for their half time top-dog!
The future is bright but unfortunately with Kean and Venkys in charge, the future sure aint blue n white.

On a good note Rhodes and Gomes look deadly at this level. I can see us taking 3 pts from the Barnsley match even if we defend like this. And we will be top of the league should that happen.
That should get the 99% of fans behind Keanocchio ..... it makes me feel ambivalent - I want the best for Rovers and yet I fear Kean will be here for the very long haul. ****, I could forgive his embarrassing antics off the field but his actual management is without doubt one of the worst in this league. Now I hear he wants to send Simon Vukcevic out on loan. Can someone explain to me why this man is not being given a chance??? http://en.wikipedia.

Hi John, I thought about you during the game. All in all, it was just a cracking game of footie.!
Our manager is in the middle of transforming us and our forwards and midfield are as good as any (watch Baldock) but the defence is still **** although we were definitely the ones pressing for the winner at 3-3.
Then one bad decision by the ref gave you a free kick fron which you eventually scored and the 5th came fron us looking for the equaliser...
Your defence wasn't bad at all, our forwards were good whereas our defence WAS crap and your attack was better...

So Kean finally admits defensive frailties in the side, only took him nearly 2 yrs. Unfortunately our best defender Gael Givet is now injured so that doesn't look like improving anytime soon. What is Hendry/Kean telling these lad's, id love to be a fly-on-the-wall in the changing room. As for Kean saying this was "an excellent Bristol City side" he's either being very courteous to the opposition and their manager or he's seeing pink elephants because they were far from excellent on today's showing.

Hi Andy.
If you read this please could you ask Mr Kean and Mr Hendry our current coaches the following question.
Mr Kean
Please can you explain Blackburn's poor defensive play and what EXACT and PRECISE solution(s) do you and Mr Hendry propose to implement?
Matt Newcastle.
I am predicting that he and Mr Hendry will not have a clue. What will come out of his and Hendrys mouth will be absolute waffle highlighting the fact that once and for all they are incompetent at rectifying the problem which I hope will not be our downfall.
If Kean, who likes to talk up his great coaching prowess is this supposed great UEFA A grade coach he has had two years plus the whole of the pre season to get it right.
Quite clearly he has failed to address this key issue to date.
Andy can you push him on giving an answer to this for I would hate to think it would derail our chances of a top 2 finish.
Forget top 6 for the play offs can be a lottery.

I don't care how long it takes to sell the club as long as the process starts as soon as possible, and that is why I won't encourage them to stay by funding them.
I haven't forgotten the havoc they have wreaked at the club in less than two years, and won't encourage them to stay a minute longer than is necessary.

Is this a thinly disguised attack on what is a shambles of a defense coached by Hendry ?
Must do better ?
With every respect to the Bristol attackers BRFC gifted them the goals on a plate(IMO)
Every credit to the players in winning this game, but with the quality on show, and, again, (IMO) we have an abundance of that on show to win any game at this level.
Very difficult to criticize a win, but it is a fine line with the frailties that exist in conceding goals.
That said, I'll crack on it's a normal day, and enjoy the game on face value.
Hendry had better get his act together or heartbreak will surely follow ?!!!

He did naff all as a Manager and doesn't have what it takes to coach at any level.
That said there is only so much a coach can do; you can't get players to put their bodies on the line if that isn't their nature - It was his but that sort of thing isn't coachable - or to demonstrate skills they simply don't possess.
Maybe we are expecting Rovers Management to make silk purse out of a sow's ear?

The biggest on-field problem is the Man Between the Sticks, He is in the team on Reputation Only, Twelve months ago he was conceding 3 against Arsenal , now It`s same again against Bristol. Yes he has good reflex`s and is great at charging a man down. But his Long Range Shot Stopping and his Ball Distribution ( Big Boot) are terrible.
He was flapping against :Leeds and he did it several times again today
How many Clean Sheets in How Many Games??????
Sorry but Robbo is no Brad Freidel, With Brad in Goal we would have stayed up last year.
How many more games will three go past him, and the rest of the defence take all the blame. Sorry Robbo but your not Blameless, just a little bit Clueless at Times.

hat I can't stand is when he says "We'll address it on th trainig pitch on Monday" as if he's JUST discovered that we've got a tendency to leak goals.
He said that after te Leeds game and has had 2 clear weeks to sort something out.
I was a the Nova Scotia pub before the match and a Bristol fan was telling us that the guy who scored the first goal was really really quicj and Baldock needed watching.
Surel, a manager on 20ka week could have anticipated this and done something about this.
Kean ou need to analyse where the threats come from nd plan accordingly. Make your players aware of the opposition strengths
Anyway, my son and I had a brilliant time and we're now looking forward to staying tp against the mighty Barnsley and Boro before the next away day against Charlton

Now the dust has settled on our win you would just hope that the powers that be (God knows who that means!) realise that relying on our forwards to score 4 or more goals every away game is not a basis for promotion.
Kean wasn't up to the task of tightening up our defence last season so why he can be seemed to be the man this season is beyond me!
I believe our squad has got great potential,at this level mind, and the appointment of a new manager with tactical nous should/would ensure we are in the top two slots at the end of the season!

Kean is crap at defence because all of his experience comes from the imaginary career that he carries around inside his head.
I hate it when the opposing team score, something that we have seen far far too much of in the last two years.

From the start, all are saying , we need to enhance the defence, then we got hendry, then we got an unknown player where S.Kean dosen't have any clue. Is good in paper that we have five prem players like S.Dann,Givat,M.Ollso
n,Lawe,Hanley in the team, but they are average in that segment, which is proved in the last couple of matchs. We need ruthless effort in defence. Get two defender in the style of Samba, he is really tall and build with all the skills and Robbo will get the good protection from all the corners and in the box also.
When we set with our strikers, we leak in our box with poor defence, which is not acceptable, is not a fun game, we need to will all the games, make sure we reach 100 points. 30Win,10Draw is my target.
Team is doing good,KEAN is safe. Fans are happy, I love this game.

Amazing going forward and in total contrast to last season we are going score a hatfull of goals, however in defence of Hendry he can only work with the tools he has got! No one can say Hendry as a player does not know how to defend he was probablly the best central defender i have ever seen pull on a rovers shirt.

Just twigged.....Steve's best management decision he's ever made...the appointment of 'Braveheart' as the 'big man' likes to be known the new defensive coach who did the dirty on Uncle Jack...got to hand it to Steve his own self preservation mindset reached an all time high....appointing someone who could be equally hated is a master stroke hoping to deflect the ****or was it just two pals having a confab over a stella and a gamble in Lytham thinking of ways how to make a few bob;-)
Would I make the trip up north...maybe if this form isn't a fluke.....after all I love rovers more than I dislike the regime.
And yourself or you going down?
I did go and did meet-up with Woody and we had a cracking afternoon! Its a bit of a journey from France but one I was so glad I made and plan to do again as soon as possible.
I had a good chat with Woody about whether he would go to home games again and I know he is really torn about it but I think he may be tempted this week?
I know for sure after watching the game yesterday that if I could get to home games then I would not let my feelings for the Odious one or Venkys keep me away from watching the Rovers. This team will get promoted this season for sure and anyone not watching Rovers because of the off field rubbish is really missing out on what promises to be a great and exciting season.

Wow, last year we get beat and you get 200 sh1t filled posts about it. This year another win, top of the league and we get less than 100. I guess people just love to moan or do you think maybe some on here are dingles pretending and just winding folk up.

That'll be at Forest then. Been in touch with family just north of Nottingham and they won't be going at all till Kean goes. Amazing.

Failing that, please think about how long it took for the Walker Trust to find a buyer !!
I respectfully suggest that if the present owners 'pulled the plug' all of a sudden then BRFC would probably be a 'thing of the past'.
How would that suit you?
I don't care how long it takes to sell the club as long as the process starts as soon as possible, and that is why I won't encourage them to stay by funding them.
I haven't forgotten the havoc they have wreaked at the club in less than two years, and won't encourage them to stay a minute longer than is necessary.
I just hope that you have a club to support at the end of your boycott l !

The soft goals almost spoiled a great win and a great day out for over 1500 Rovers fans (me included)! It was so painful to see us go in front twice only to be pegged back so easily. Need to get this sorted NOW Mr.Odious one. When City scored their third goal to equalise I think every City fan in every stand stood up and pointed at the Rovers fans and sang 'who are you?' Well when the 4th and 5th goals went in we reminded them just who we are: 'Top of the League' ..... Great day out....
I love this game - thanks to players and staff.

Spot on everyone is aware that we need a commanding presence at the back
surely there is a Prem club with a surplus CB we can borrow.

How is that relevant to Kean?
The man is an incompetent deadbeat. You could manage this squad to promotion, but it's what would happen next season if Kean is allowed to wreak further havok.
We've done well to go top after 5 games, but we've no chance of staying there long-term if Kean doesn't get sacked.
