Olsson is making a Mark at Blackburn Rovers

MAN IN FORM Markus Olsson tussles with El-Hadji Diouf MAN IN FORM Markus Olsson tussles with El-Hadji Diouf

STEVE Kean believes Markus Olsson can strike fear through Championship defences this season after admitting his progress over the past eight months has been ‘impressive’.

The left-sided Swede arrived at Ewood Park as a free agent in January, having spent the previous three seasons at Halmstads BK, but struggled to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has been a regular this campaign though, in the absence of twin brother Martin, and has proved a constant attacking threat from left back.

Olsson scored his first Rovers goal in the 3-3 draw at Leeds United last time out and, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bristol City, boss Kean has praised his recent development.

Kean said: “Markus Olsson was outstanding at Leeds. He scored a goal and created the second and has given us a real threat down the left this season.

“He came raw, he came naive, I don't think he knew what his best position was. We feel as though he can play wide left or left back and are impressed at how he learns.

“He takes on information very well and I think when you are coaching him every day you don't have to tell him the points over and over again.

“It sticks. It shows he is an intelligent player. I think full backs would be scared of him.”

Markus’s more established twin brother, Martin, will be pushing for a recall for the trip to Ashton Gate as he continues his recovery from groin surgery.

His return will be no formality, with Kean admitting he has been impressed with the partnership built up by Markus and Morten Gamst Pedersen on Rovers’ left side. “Right up that left hand side the combination between Martin and Morten was causing Leeds all sorts of problems,” said Kean.

“Markus has got the type of engine and Morten has got the technical ability where he can pick a pass out. I thought we did really well up that side and probably unlucky not to get another goal from there.”

Kean has also hailed Ruben Rochina’s ability to ‘win a game’ after his back heel earned Rovers a point against the run of play at Leeds.

Kean said: “He has got all the ability in the world and he has produced a goal out of nothing with his back heel. “I think even before that he has come on, got the ball at his feet, taken it on, had a few shots. He produced a good substitutes performance because he has given us a lift.”

  • Rovers defender Anthony O’Connor will extend his loan spell with Burton Albion until the turn of the year.

Please make a decision on the tactics for Saturday because I don't think we can stand much more indecision, either go for the 3 points by playing two strikers and supplying them with ammunition(obviously the preferable option, and the only one in my opinion) or be a total negative plonker and go for the draw by getting our noses in front and then sitting back (not an option, should be beating comprehensibly mid-table teams if we have aspirations of promotion home and away). Negativity will NOT BE TOLERATED for much longer!!!

Kean was appointedto play attractive football.
The Championship is the place to be aggressive, play attacking football. We have he players in the Olssons, Rochina, Pedersen, Rhodes and Gomes to absolutely batter a side like Bristol City.

mentione this yesterday , the current squad has listed ( rovers.co.uk) 4 GK, 9 DEF, 13 MID and 9 strikers, so you would think that our squad mix would dictate and attacking style , pushing teams into their own half and playing against us on the counter.

Playing a holding sit back and absorb the pressure game makes no sense. So hows about on saturday we play the type of game we bought this team to play. if we are not going to do that then we have bought the wrong players and thats just plain stupidity.

I agree with the comments about the Rovers system which seems very negative for a team which on paper is superior to the other squads in the Championship.

Unfortunately this seems to be the norm, last night England played 4-5-1, Ukraine played 5-5, Spain won the European championship without playing a striker, only used Torres mostly as a sub.

I remain totally unconvinced that it is the right system for Rovers and England, but it seems to be the fashion everywhere. Rovers will need to pass the ball much better than last year for it to have any chance of working.

No offense but you are using the 'Steve Kean' mindset there.
Of course most decent teams at the moment play 4-5-1 but it is NOT deployed in the manner at which Kean deploys it at ewood.

The 4-5-1 is a defensive setup for most teams like Man United and England.
When the team is in possession the formation dramatically shifts to 4-3-3 and even 2-5-3 at times of extreme pressure.
Steve Kean does not know how to setup a dynamic formation. The formation remains static with 1 up-top, isolated and leaving zero room for build up play around the striker.

If Kean insists on 4-5-1 static defensive then we might aswell sell Rhodes to Burnley for 200 grand right now.

ALL the fans should be chanting 4-4-2 every game, because as we've seen before, when the crowd chants for something (Ruben Rochina), they get it.

the need for fans to see two strikers playing is nothing new at Ewood....that was the shout also when BFS was manager.....

there was the TUF (Two Up Front) debate/campaign on here for many a month....and we are probably no better off for strikers now than we were then and nothing changed then either - so don't hold your breath waiting for the odious one to play TUF. Especially as it is what all the fans want to see.....especially at home but also away now we are in the championship. If we are going to win it lets at least win it in style...

Good going forward but poor at defending, this lad is a winger not a full-back. Just like his brother wasn't up to scratch as a Premiership defender this lad is struggling in the Championship.

Since Kean has been utterly incapable of improving of our defensive play, despite holding that responsibility for the last 2 years, I would be going to get Warnock to fill that position. Instead Kean has splashed the money on players like the unimpressive Murphy and a host of squad players that we can't now afford to take Warnock and a CB on loan.

Like thousands of others I don't join in with the Kean Out chanting any more. If the new owners are happy with an empty stadium then that is their prerogative and they can choose to ignore that as well.

A regime that covets a no-mark, self-interested failure of a manager over thousands of the clubs fans doesn't share my vision for the club nor the covenant that they accepted when they bought it.

Kean talk less is better for coming matches...........

All the best for the young talents in blackburn rovers team. I feel Ollson as a player improved with much confidence in this season and he is hard working to get result. I feel Martin and Marks control the left side of the team with Rhodes in the box can expect goals, so Kean should plan with this three in different statergies on each stage of the game. This will improve the game plan with the right wing players. Ribeiro and Jason Lowe will fight to get balls on there legs in the right wing and push more balls into the box for Gomes. Murphy need more active in the center, control is good, but some time we need to accelarate the game.

Bruno Ribeiro is another player need to look, he is impresive and hope henry is taken care of this player to improve defence skills and make up a mind of a ruthless effort(obey the rules of the game) to control and check the runners.

My team for next match:
Robbo,M.Ollson,Givat
,Hanley,Bruno Ribeiro,Marks Ollson,Etuhu,Murphy,
Jason Lowe,Rhodes,Gomes
Sub : Kean, Kazim, Rochina,Dunn, Pedersen,Formica,Orr

Murphy @65th min sub with Dunn if needed
Gomes @60 mts sub with Kazim
Lowe @75 mts Sub with Rochina (this depend upon the situvation of the game)

Don't go deep after the first goal in this season, We need more goals to stay top of the table...............
so all the best of my players, I love this game.

This from the Dail Mail......sadly it is the Daily Mail so not time to get excited yet......

Steve Kean faces a defining week as Blackburn manager with one eye on the top of the Championship table and the other on his future at Ewood Park.
The club’s Indian owners Venky’s told Kean before the start of the season that he needed a minimum of 16 points from the opening seven games to keep his job.
Even though Blackburn are second in the table with eight points, and unbeaten in their first four matches, sources close to the Venkatesh family indicated on Wednesday night that the ultimatum remains in place.
That means Kean must win his next three games in the space of six days – away to Bristol City on Saturday and at home to Barnsley and Middlesbrough next week – or face the sack.
It is a peculiar scenario even by Blackburn’s standards over the last couple of years.
However it provides further evidence that Kean is losing the unqualified support of Mrs Anuradha Desai, the family matriarch who saved him from the axe in December and again in May when Blackburn were relegated from the Premier League.
The owners have backed him by spending upwards of £15million to bring in 12 new players this summer, including record £8m signing Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield.
But it is understood that they remain unconvinced by Blackburn’s performances and feel that an unbeaten run of two wins and two draws has flattered Kean’s team.
They also accept that the decision to keep the unpopular manager has hit the club financially.
Attendances have dipped below 14,000 – the lowest for league games at Ewood for almost 20 years – with thousands of fans refusing to return until Kean goes.
And it is understood that two potential shirt sponsors have pulled out of deals because of the ongoing turmoil at the club.
That has further weakened the Scot’s position despite a relatively positive start to the season, and failure to win any of the next three games would give his bosses the excuse they need to wield the axe.

KEAN TARGETS SINGH
Nowhere has the rise of the owner-manager been more acutely felt than at Blackburn Rovers were the influence of bogus advisors and board room pig-headedness led to the demise of one manager, Sam Allardyce, and the appointment of an inferior replacement, resulting in relegation. Now Steve Kean confesses he has not even seen three of his deadline-day signings play live, having come as recommendations from Blackburn’s global advisor Shebby Singh (pic above).
It is dangerous enough when these owner-manager schemes are headed up by men like Roman Abramovich, who provide the investment to support their whims, when it is the mere work of stooges, calamity awaits.
But is Shebby Singh to blame, Kean indicates the players were signed on Shebby’s say so.
Why has Kean come out with this statement? He knew it would receive ridicule in the National press or was that Kean’s purpose? Judging on Kean’s past exploits I suspect it was.
Let me ask you all a question. When Rovers scattergun player recruitment policy was in operation last season, and Rovers signed a ‘ load of dross’ resulting in relegation, do you think for one minute Kean actually saw most of those signing’s play. No he did not.
He has already stated that he was burdened with players “not of his choice” as he played his usual blame game following relegation.
Then who did sign those players and bring them to the club, none other than Jerome (the man who ruined Blackburn Rovers) Anderson including his son Myles (yet to kick a ball for the Rovers) Anderson. Did Kean go to the National press then?. No he did not. Because Kean knows he is beholding to Anderson for having landed the Rovers job in the first place.
But Shebby Singh is another matter. If things go wrong, as they will, Shebby will get the blame. He is a convenient scape goat for Kean.
Kean plays a waiting game. He did it with Paul Hunt, successfully removing him Ewood Park six months after Hunt wanted Kean sacking. Kean wants rid of Shebby Singh.
Shebby you are up against a slippery, conniving opponent.
BEWARE.

Allardyce was sacked for playing unattractive negative football.
Kean was appointedto play attractive football.
The Championship is the place to be aggressive, play attacking football. We have he players in the Olssons, Rochina, Pedersen, Rhodes and Gomes to absolutely batter a side like Bristol City.
We shold play open football without fear and winthis league by 10 clear points.
Sort it out Kean or pack it in

The crowd's been chanting for the odious one to go for a season and a half , All we got was relegation !!!!
