Rugby: Off day proves costly for Burnley

BURNLEY paid the price for ‘silly offloads’ as they undid all the good work put in during the first half.

The Holden Road side gave as good as they got in the opening period and went in level at 8-8 thanks to a try from Tom Ives, following good build-up play by forwards and backs and a Dom penalty.

But errors in the off load allowed the Saints to score two breakaway tries when Burnley were on top. Hopes of a comeback were snuffed out when Burnley conceded a penalty and the St Edwards Old Boys’ number eight powered over the line as Burnley were organising but extremely slowly.

Billy Ingham powering over for Burnley’s second try of the match but the last touchdown when to the Saints.

Coach Simon Finnan said: “We must move on and develop our close play and decide when to offload and when not.”
