Rishton United Football Club has been awarded the prestigious 2012 FA Community Charter Standard Club from the Lancashire Football Association.
Now the club is looking to mark the occasion by launching an ambitious £1m community project to develop football facilities in the town.
Rishton is hoping to secure a long term lease of the Primetime site, working in close partnership with Norden High School and Hyndburn Borough Council.
The club will be hoping to attract major funding for a scheme that would provide top class facilities for the whole community to use.
“This is the way forward for the club and a way for us to become a real part of the community,” said Simon O’Carroll, the club’s Charter Standard representative and press officer. “We know it is a long term project and something that may take a few years to get off the ground but our aim is to build top class facilities that would not only be used by the club but by schools in the area and the wider community.”
The club currently uses Primetime as a training base and is hoping to play home games there as well.
The club wants to improve the pitches and develop the site to provide parking, changing, training and storage facilities – all within the Primetime site.
“It is ambitious and it is a long term goal and a lot will depend on securing a lease on the ground and attracting substantial funding but this is the direction the club wants to move in.”
Having been award the FA Community Charter Standard Club, the club has already demonstrated it is moving in the right direction.
The LFA were impressed with Rishton United’s five year development plan, which not only includes plans for developing playing and training facilities in Rishton, but also included plans to further develop coaching within both the club, community and in local schools.
The club, formed in the 1970s, now has more than 20 clubs and 300 youngsters on its books – from its well known Nippers class for the under sixes through to the newly formed under 18s team.
It also has a girls under 13s team, a ladies team and two senior men’s teams.
