ACCRINGTON plan a renewed push to go that extra step towards the Foster’s Lancashire League title next year – and have already moved to re-sign professional Ashar Zaidi.

The Pakistani all-rounder has helped the Thorneyholme Road outfit to back-to-back Holland Cups as runners up.

And club officials tied up his signature before Sunday’s seasonal finale.

While Accrington suffered the pain of finishing second, skipper Graham Lloyd was proud of the efforts of his men in the latter stages of the season.

“We had an excellent finish to the season and you can’t do much more than take the title race into the latter stages of the last day,” he said.

“We gave ourselves a sniff of the title going into the last two games and it was a good end to the year.”

Accrington’s second place once again saw them finish as Hyndburn’s top team – but the borough provided three of the top four as Church and Enfield finished joint third on the same points and with identical records.

Todmorden were fifth with Haslingden sneaking past Ramsbottom to finish sixth.

Colne could celebrate a good end to the campaign as they clambered out of the bottom two thanks to their shock last-day win over Todmorden.

That saw Bacup drop into 13th spot with Rawtenstall collecting the wooden spoon.

Burnley were eighth, Rishton ninth and Nelson 10th, a place above East Lancashire who they beat in a Seedhill thriller on the final day.
