Accrington aim to take it to the wire

GRAHAM Lloyd says Accrington will go all out to pile the pressure onto Lowerhouse as the race for the Foster’s Lancashire League title goes down to the wire this weekend.

The former Lancashire star leads his men into the double header 10 points behind the reigning champions but he has seen enough twists and turns in cricket to know that anything can happen.

“It’s certainly a great end to what has been a pretty terrible season with the weather,” he said.

“You don’t want the title decided in the dressing room while it’s raining – you want it sorted out on the pitch.

“And that looks the way it will go.

“Lowerhouse are the big favourites, they realistically only need one win plus bonus points and we and a couple of others need to win both our games.

“Neither Rishton nor Burnley will do us any favours – but we will go all out to give ourselves the best chance, as will the other sides in the mix.”

Lloyd leads a full strength side in both games this weekend and he added: “We will go out and try to do our bit, we have hit form at the right time and in cricket you just never know what is going to happen.

Meanwhile, Jonny Whitehead is crossing his fingers so that hopefully he can have the perfect end to an amazing season. His county season has now ended for Lancashire u19s and he is to be presented with the Edwin Kay Trophy for the outstanding player of the season at Old Trafford next week after making 343 runs in five innings.

He has also made 560 runs as Lowerhouse’s leading run scorer.
