Accrington v Morecambe: Reds looking to Miller time
8:51am Tuesday 4th September 2012 in Sport
By Chris Flanagan, Sports reporter
GEORGE Miller is relishing life at Accrington Stanley after netting his first goal for the Reds in Saturday’s impressive win at Cheltenham Town.
The Reds return to action tonight when they host Lancashire rivals Morecambe in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and they are flying high after a 3-0 weekend triumph left them with nine points from their first four games in League Two.
Miller was among the goalscorers at Whaddon Road and has shown real promise in a holding midfield role since joining Stanley from Preston this summer.
The 20-year-old played seven times for Preston last term but is playing regular first team football for the first time.
“I’ve really enjoyed it, I’ve been playing football and playing 90 minutes and I’ve got to carry on doing it,” Miller said.
“It was great to get my first goal for Accrington.
“We’ve just got to keep going and hopefully we’ll get more wins.”
Miller has formed an effective partnership with Luke Joyce in the Stanley midfield but knows he must maintain his form with the Reds now having a number of selection options.
“Joycey’s a good lad and we’re rooming together,” he said. “We’ve all got our own jobs, me and Joycey just sit in there and pick up the pieces.
“But the lads are pushing each other all the time. We’ve got quite a few young lads and they’re all chomping at the bit to play.”
