Rochina: I’ll back my ability to hit the net
8:21am Monday 3rd September 2012 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
RUBEN Rochina insists he has full faith in his own ability after rescuing Blackburn Rovers a point on Saturday with a stunning back heel.
Rovers’ Spaniard has yet to make a league start this campaign but gave boss Steve Kean a reminder of his talents with his late leveller to drag a rampant Leeds level.
Rochina has largely been a forgotten man at Ewood Park for almost a year, being restricted to cameo appearances here and there, but his inactivity has not dented any of his confidence.
The former Barcelona man played a key role in Rovers winner against Leicester a week ago from the bench before proving the hero on Saturday.
Rochina said: “I always try. I believe in me, you must shoot to score and when I have the opportunity, I do. Some times it is wide, sometimes it is a goal. I try always.
“In the moment you can’t think too much. I am really happy for the finish but most important is for the team to get the point.
“I don’t think I have scored like that before, I can’t remember one. It is normal, people were surprised, it is a good thing to finish.
“It was good.”
While Rochina was understandably delighted with his contribution, Leeds boss Neil Warnock was left feeling aggrieved at the manner of the equaliser.
Rovers boss Steve Kean insists two of Leeds’ goals should have been disallowed for fouls on his players and Warnock believes the same of Rochina’s leveller.
He said: “It was a cracking end to the game. That is why I am in the game for days like that. Everyone gave everything, what a good avert for the Championship.
“Shankly once said referees know the rules and the laws they just don’t know the game. When you watch the free kick and the way Pedersen arched his back to foul Tom Lees and see the referee give a free kick to Pedersen, I just don’t know.
“I have asked the assessor how are they educated on this because Pedersen did it all afternoon.
“Good luck to him. He was laughing at me in the dug out and he is not bad for an old man is he?
“The referee should be aware when someone deliberately fouls at such a crucial time. It is so disappointing to get done by a decision like that.”

Defence need to buckle up with midfield after getting two goals. It is shame to give away lots of balls into the box and robbo to act quickly.

It is easy to pick on young players, he gives the ball away not less than anyone else. His our best passer, and a very positive player. I would play him in the center midfield with Ethuhu being the defensive rock. Fabragus of Arsenal wasn't a big player but like Rochina, their passing is excellent and ensures the team keep the ball, not lose it to then have to defend it.
Kean has more to learn than Rochina!

His stunner at Fulham season last convinced me. At Leeds with the equalizer I didn't see at the time the back heel !
Rochina was criticized last season for his giving away of the ball in dangerous area's or hanging onto the ball and losing possession, but his talents are there for all to see.
I hope he is given more time on the pitch this season ?
Good to see Warnock handing the plaudits to MGP !!

It is pity that Kean does not trust this talented young man to play 90 minutes.

It beggars belief that goodwillie was loaned whilst rochina stays and kazim Richards is brought in on loan. Rhodes needs a runner around him, not a slow or greedy player.
Needs to get his head up more and sometimes - instead of shooting - play a telling pass. Still much to learn

The thing is we should have gone the whole Hogg and brought in Ince from Blackpool we would then have a 4 goal start before tinker man **** it up with his tacticless substitutions.

Rhodes does not need anyone around him he needs service from two quick wingers who can cross a decent ball and he will deliver. The thing is we should have gone the whole Hogg and brought in Ince from Blackpool we would then have a 4 goal start before tinker man **** it up with his tacticless substitutions.

4 points dropped, Steve, any more and I will order you a taxi, OK ?
Unbeaten in 4 and you still want moan
Tell you what, order a taxi for yourself because I will guarantee that if Kean was sacked today you and your moaning mates would be on hete shooting holes in the next victim, sorry, manager to take the job
Oh and Rochina, talented but lacks team play and is a showboater, so SK has been right not to play him , Rochina cost us more goals than he scored last year..which you would know if you actually went to a game now and then
