Ribblesdale League Saturday round-up: Barnoldswick get that championship feeling

BARNOLDSWICK have ended a 20-year wait and are the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League champions after beating Salesbury by 49 runs at Victory Park.

Matt Nutter's men have been the stand-out side all season with just one defeat in the league.

And going into the weekend 26 points clear of second-placed Read with three games to play they knew a win would see them crowned as champions.

And they went about their business in a professional manner to see off the Red Caps to spark celebrations.

Thanks to Barnoldswick's win it didn't matter what second-placed Read did - but Kyle O'Connor's men did their job with a crushing win over Edenfield.

And it was a day that saw Jonathan Harvey move within one wicket of becoming the club's all-time leading wicket-taker.

He claimed 6-22 as Edenfield were skitttled for 49 as they tried to chase down Read's testing 228 all out.

Oswaldtwistle Immanuel claimed an excellent success over Great Harwood in an enthralling match.

Immanuel posted 183-5 before Harwood were 177 all out.

Ribblesdale Wanderers thumped Cherry Tree as Dave Howard claimed five wickets with the Blackburn side 109 all out.

Wanderers then dashed home with four wickets down and some 17 overs to spare.

Baxenden beat Whalley by nine wickets at Station Road and Clitheroe beat Earby at The Applegarth.

Well done to everyone at Barnoldswick Cricket Club on winning the Ribblesdale League championship, you deserved it having been on top for most of the season.

Think you should stick to calling them the ‘Red Caps’ as you are clearly struggling with the spelling of Salesbury.

Well done to Barlick by the way.
