Kean blames refereeing decisions for Rovers' collapse in draw

STEVE Kean believes his side were robbed of maximum points at Leeds this afternoon by two refereeing blunders.

The Rovers boss was left disappointed after seeing his side lose a two goal lead to draw 3-3 and insists referee Neil Swarbrick played a big part.

After Marcus Olsson and Nuno Gomes had fired Rovers into a 2-0 lead, Kean believes there were fouls in the build up to both of Leeds' goals as they roared back into the game.

Kean said: “When you look at it, it should look like a point gained but we are disappointed because we felt as though we were excellent and in total control.

“We felt the turning point was a blatant foul on Paul Robinson. When an attacker is jumping into you you could only lead with one hand, and we felt that was a foul.

“It was a big moment because they went in with their tails up after pulling a goal back.

“I have looked at it five or six times and certainly the second goal, Gael Givet is nudged in the back and a great finish. We feel that was a foul.

“There were big turning points and we feel we were on the wrong end of a couple.”

How on earth are we second in the table? After 4 poor opening games we should really be in the bottom three. And for all our attacking process this year, we don't have a sound defence. If Dann's injury is serious, and if we were ever to lose Givet, what then? If we can get Martin Olsson back playing, maybe it will help in sorting out our defensive problems. I hope so because I think Keano has now spent our entire transfer budget, if anything goes wrong now I doubt we will be able to bring anybody in January (instead of bringing in Portugal's entire youth team, why didn't he go out and get two good solid defenders this summer?).

Still, it's kinda ironic that with all our problems, and our worst ever manager, we find ourselves in the top two, whilst Burnley are in the bottom three, with one of their best managers of the last thirty years. Just hope we can forget our problems, and get back to laughing at Burnley again (I've really missed that this last couple of years)

Scott Dann has looked good this year but without him Givet and hanley seem to struggle with long balls. We need a big strong experience defender like Samba.

The question is rather "did Rhodes play?".

Pitiful Kean finds it easier to spend £8m + £40kpw on him than it is to set the team up to give him chances. Maybe at Huddersfield the ball magically appeared in the box on silver platter for him.

There are a lot noting that it is the same old story of Kean moaning. I don't know - it sounds like the same old story of moaning about Kean/Venkys whatever happens. Rovers have made a good start from the point of view of results. 3 at home, 1 away is promotion form. Yes, it is too early, but I wanted to see 20 point from the first 10 games, so they are on track.
Well done. Let's now work on the defending.

Just got back from the game and to be fair the ref did miss the 2 blatant fouls on Robinson and Givet. Losing Dann did not help because Hanley still panics under pressure. We controlled virtually the whole of the first half despite Leeds commiting twice as many fouls. We came under pressure in the second half which was only to be expected with the amount of crowd support, to describe it as intense would be an understatement. ( Rovers fans take note ) Like everyone else, I want rid of Kean, but criticism of today's performance is harsh. We do need to go 4/3/3 instead of 4/4/1/1 though

kean was appalling in his decisions and tactical acumen as usual. got it wrong at 2-0 after lording it on the touchline. nice to see the players celebrating in front of the fans, nobody went to steve kean.

Everyone can see it was so obvious that Rovers needed an defender who can organise on the pitch and have valuable experience of playing in the english league, it would be more useful than the defensive coach colin hendry, This wont change until Kean is kicked out, it would have been cheaper than throwing the entire budget on one striker.

Ok good, I just needed to check..
Looking at it like that, you are right, it's a good point and Rovers are doing well. But look at like Neil Warnock must have looked at it. "Right lads, let's put them under pressure at the back because they always make mistakes." And what happens? Rovers collapse and are lucky to scrape through. When all the other managers see this and stop giving Rovers the respect of an ex-Premier League team with high quality players, they'll all be piling the pressure on and THE PROBLEM IS THAT KEAN AND HENDRY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT! That's what we're moaning about. That all I've really been moaning about since Kean took over. Even we beat Liverpool at home a few games into Kean's tenure and everyone was getting excited you could see there was a lot of luck involved and the defence was really shaky. Nearly 2 years later and there is absolutely no improvement in defence, in fact it has been allowed to get worse, aand some would say and they have a point that Kean has deliberaltely made it worse because of some pride or ego about how he deals with players who know better than him how to play. KEAN IS A TOTAL TOSSER AND HAS TO GO!

Hate to say it, but on this occasion Walter Mitty is actually spot on. Leeds first was a foul on Robinson, there was a foul on Givet in the build up to their second, and even their third was off side!

Can't believe I am actually agreeing with him, but for once he is correct.

STEVE KEAN: noo see yous here. We just had a wee set back here at Leeds or as I like to call it a Victory.
NUNO GOMES: que? Señor, you threw away a 2 goal lead!
SK: are ye noo rite in the heed? It was the ref's fault. If he had stopped the game after 45 minutes we would have been the winners. If he had booked Leeds for kicking the ball in our net.
NG: que?
SK: It was a win for me; but I blame the result on yoos Portuguese playing all that tic-tac, tippy-tappy football.
NG: but when I was at Benfica......
SK: that does nay cut any ice with me. I was with Swansea in the old 4th division. It was tough in those days, nay cushions on the bench. There are only two footballing powerhooses in world football, Scotland and India, and we don't play possession football; that's how ye get caught in possession.
NG: but Señor...
SK: if the ball comes to yoos just pass it back to Robbo and he will lump if long and high into the back of the stand where it's nice and safe. Leeds could nay have scored if the ball had been in the back of the stand. Canny eh!
SHABBY SINGH (peering around the door): could I get a lift back on the team bus? I lent my car keys to Colin Hendry and I haven't seen it since.
ALL: Not likely you odious little fakhir!
dg666 (a bibulous ST holder of limited mental capacity and sometime LET poster): Oooh Mr.Singh I love you and all the Venky's. You can come home with me and perhaps we could stop on the way for a romantic candlelit supper.

I was there also and was about to do a write up but don't need to after yours. Spot on!! Rhodes had one chance given to him in the box and was snuffed out quickly. He was playing too deep and ne'er got the service. From 70 mins + he looked very fed up!! Murphs was shocking and slow. Off match pace and caught in possession too often and gave the ball away too easily. We playe very well in patches and awful in others which Leeds smelt blood and took full advantage. watched every game except Ipswich and we have been lucky to say the least. In the prem these teams would have taken their chances.

Kean blames refereeing decisions for Rovers' collapse in draw

But back in March,

KEAN COMES TO DEFENCE OF REFEREES

"Sometimes referees could be in slightly better positions. When we had a decision that went against us at Norwich, when you look at the position the referee was in, it looked as though it was a deliberate handball.

"But we've always got the beauty of seeing it in high definition, six or seven different angles, frame by frame. I think the referees give what they see and I would never question that."

Now with the internation break coming up is the best chance to get rid of Kean, his clueless tactics yesterday cost us points again. No players bought in the transfer window to sort out the defence and the 8mil spent on Rhodes will be wasted because he wont be plaed in his usual position. So Shebby time you did what 10,000 stay away Rovers fans want , who you need back quickly, SACK KEAN NOW and get a manager in who can make these players play to their potential, beause you have no chance with Kean in charge. Venkys you have proved what you can do in this transfer window, so go the whole hog and sack Kean !!!!!

I think that anyone who knows anything about football, can quite easily see the similarities between the games yesterday and the games last year V Sunderland and Norwich and this season against Ipswich, In all of these away games after having the upper hand and taking the lead, a change of tactics led to us losing points.

Counting the points lost last season, 3 against Sunderland and 2 against Norwich, may ultimately have meant we lost our place in the premier league. The 4 we have lost so far, may just mean we miss out on promotion this year. When you add up the cost of those decisons, it could run it to a few hundred million.

What we have spent so far this season has in fairness been creditable, but it will all lead to disaster if we aren't promoted. I think we can all see that lessons are not being learned by the manager, so he either goes or we run the gauntlet.

I am sure the owners have been told this sort of thing enough now, so it's over to you. Make the ultimate decision or face the music!

The problem with debatable refereeing decisions is that one party is always going to feel that they were robbed, even if they weren't. With regards to the 'foul' on Robinson, my immediate thought was that he was impeded. However, after watching it a few times on the Football League Show last night I don't think he was. If anything Robinson jumps/stumbles into Becchio.

As for the 'push' on Givet, I was also adamant that it was a foul at the time. After watching it over and over again I still can't decide if it was a shove in the back or whether Givet jumped too early and too closely to Norris. Another downside to being in the Championship is that these decisions aren't replayed in high definition, six or seven times, from various angles.

I would've taken the point before the match but feel that we were extremely fortunate to get it in the end. Second in the table and undefeated is a great start, albeit coming off four poor performances, but I can't help but feel our luck can't last for much longer. Kean can't be sacked yet, even if our lofty position is more in spite of his tactical nous than it is a result of his managerial brilliance.

He doesn't seem to learn too much from his mistakes but if yesterday's game teaches him anything it should be that Jordan Rhodes is not a lone striker.

I didn't like BFS' "style" of football and was not at all unhappy when he went; there, I admit it. I wasn't calling for his head particularly as I could appreciate he was using his tried and trusted way of playing, it was just one I couldn't warm to, shall we say. I did say the timing was a bit odd but, just like everyone else, I fancy, I had no idea who SK was; I just hoped they had found a bright, talented up and coming manager.

Of course a lot of dirty washing has been aired since and we have discovered he most definitely isn't.

I've said it before, a new owner sacking the manager is not unusual; BFS should know that; it's who they appoint as his replacement. If we were now in the same position in the PL as when BFS left, we would still be having a bit of a moan about not having improved (although hopefully it would've stopped feeling like a visit to the dentist every weekend), but BFS would have been a distant memory.

Oh for the days when that was all that mattered.

Personally, I do not think we would have finished SK's first (half) season any higher, even with BFS. We'd already picked up points through officials' errors, including those from a bit of skulduggery on BFS' part, which, when highlighted, were stamped on in subsequent games. The old "things even themselves out" adage hadn't kicked in yet (although there is nothing to say it would have done because it's rubbish, by the way).

Getting to 15th would probably have been a bit more comfortable than a last day dogfight and we would probably not have been relegated, I'll give you that. Only probably though; BFS doesn't have a God given right to survival, he's just better than some at doing it.

So Kean blames the ref - he's having a laugh, surely?

1) The free kick awarded to Rovers that led to the corner you equalised from should have been given the other way

2) No foul was made on Robbo for our 1st goal, so correct decision

3) 2 good penalty shouts for us both turned down

4) A 4th goal for us disallowed, still not sure why?

5) Whose fans seemed most disgruntled with the ref - booed at half time, full time and during the game?

Speaking of fans, really disappointed with how few you lads brought with you for such a short journey.

Ecstasy, agony, and relief......

I have termed our team 'Premature ****' under the odious one, but I am not going to slate him here for this game as that would be disrespectful to Leeds and the outstanding management of Warnock, who managed is team back into that 3 - 2 lead.

We never gave in looking for the point and both teams slugged it out for the win in those final minutes.

IMO - the coaching staff at 0 - 2 should have created a more defense minded approach to the final stages of the half, but he didn't and the defensive frailties became really apparent( HELLO CH WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING)

The whole defense were at sea, and non more so than the howlers that were gifted to Leeds in the 2nd half, and IMO Hanley had a quite shocking game, but again, I do not blame him for that as it was pretty obvious that he has had no game time for long periods throughout his Rovers career and yesterday that showed clearly. What the heck as happened to Dann ?

We are managed by a novice as I've always believed, and if all things are to be believed as to his tenure, then the odious one must deliver, and learn quickly when alarm bells are ringing in such games as yesterday or he will be down the road faster than 'beep beep the roadrunner' but that said yesterday was a good old fashioned game of roller coaster football in one of the most famous of grounds of our English clubs, and slugging it out with them was magnificent.

Rhodes ? Give the kid time to adjust to what will be a different system etc, but he did enough in my eye's to suggest he will be a real asset come the day !

I would have taken a point before the game, and on reflection this was a good point regardless of the obvious failings that BRFC quite clearly show at the moment.

2nd in the table and in no way will I complain over the purity of that which we think our team should be ? We are in for a good old scrap this season, and promotion is paramount for our club which the odious one must deliver thus on that basis I will run with it following our team and club on the road to success.

The Rovers crowd yesterday made the hairs on my neck stand on end, and my spine tingle roaring our boys on to the final whistle.

Ecstasy, agony, and relief - well worth the £36 !

KCleeds - it isn't the size that matters mate, but how you use it !

Our lads roared louder and longer than you did although should you have a prolonged roar then the whole ground becomes a cauldron, but (IMO) you lads don't get behind your team enough yesterday ?

I reckon around 3000(IM estimation) and at £36(Prem prices) then that, in these days of austerity, was a pretty good showing all things considered ?

Remember - 'your not famous anymore' he-he :)

nice and fair report RR......I agree about taking the point before the game and also that we should not be turning a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 deficit before we drew level late on. We need to learn how to defend from a winning position no matter how good the fightback from the other side.

But saying all that there are still only 3 teams with a better GD than the Rovers, plus of course we are second now in the table and still favs to win the league and our team is still new and needs a little time to gel.....so there should be more and better stuff to come!

You raised a good question with your 'where is Dann''...?
Could it be possible that the Odious one promised that Danno could go on Friday if someone came in and matched his valuation? Well we still get 10% of our population at home games despite an anti manager campaign. More like 20% last year,. That wolbe the equivalent of about 150 000 attending Leeds, the biggest one club city in the country. Thenagain it is a rugby town

How many people do you think actually live in Blackburn? If you got the same gates proportionally you have to play each half in a different two different grounds.

Rod of the Rovers says...

Blackburn Rovers fans believe their club has been robbed of its Premier League status and dignity over the last 18 months by a succession of management blunders.

Rovers fans have been left disappointed after seeing their side lose a two goal lead (again) to draw 3-3, with many are insisting Steve Kean's management played a big part.

After Marcus Olsson and Nuno Gomes had fired Rovers into a 2-0 lead during a positive first half, the fans believe that another poor defensive display led to Leeds roaring back into the game.

Kean spoke his usual rubbish after the game stating “When you look at it, it should look like a point gained but we are disappointed because we felt as though we were excellent and in total control.

He went on to blame the referee for his own short comings “We felt the turning point was a blatant foul on Paul Robinson.

Blackburn fans have had to endure a sustained period of **** from the first team coach, and believe that the big turning point in their clubs fortunes came when he was given the job in the first place. Many feel that the poor management has been a theme running throughout the club and that they were on the wrong end of a couple more of these this afternoon.

Have watched the goals on TV. For the first goal, it is debatable if Robbo was fouled, he's a big powerful fella and still should have won the ball. There's no doubt this changed the game.

The second goal could have been a foul, but really it's a very good quick flick on to a player who is making a good run and finishes extremely well. No complaints with that one.

3rd goal, the back 4 is perfectly positioned with 2 or 3 Leeds players offside, an error by Hanley, does that play on the offside Leeds players?

It's not the organisation that costs them goals, as with Dann's mistake against Leicester, it's individual mistakes. I still find Robbo unconvincing, especially with crosses and Oh for a bit of composure in defence. I hope this new Portuguese centre half can defend. Mind you, if defenders, goalkeepers and referees never made mistakes every game around the world would finish 0-0.

As usual I agree with many people who say we go in front, then sit back playing negative and inviting the opposition onto us. On the plus side we completely dominated one of the favourites for promotion for 35 minutes on their own ground. One day we might play for 90 minutes instead of 30 or 40 minutes.

Warnock is a wily manager and got a strong response from his players, but he's tried twice to keep a team in the Premiership and failed, even for a good manager it's not so easy as people seem to think.

NO NAY NEVER says...

I would of taken a point before the game yesterday and 2nd in the league is a good start. I am just going to ignore the negative posters, they are either our dingle friends or just very bitter people and will even moan if we get promoted. The constructive posters come accross with some good points we need to be able to finish teams off and that has to be the key this season. To play like that in the first half and then sit back and try to weather the storm is not the right way, the best form of defence is to attack but we will hopefully learn from this for the next game.

For the last couple of matches ONE thing is very clear BRFC are up against 12 players on the pitch week in week out.
Every other team has supporters which gives them the added incentive to win games.
Leeds showed this against us at Elland Road, Their fans gave them the 3 goals.
so where are the BRFC fans, we should be behind the team and get ourselves back in premiership where BRFC belong.
So Real fans lets get BRFC where they belong by supporting them.

We should not compare BRFC with the big spending clubs in the premiership. Now ....FOOTBALLL....Its all about money. You need billionaires to run clubs to be successful. BRFC are a very small town club with few supporters and no no more a rich benefactor. we should not forget this.

By comparison BRFC are a small town club who have been elevated to the premier league due to the great Jack Walker and his money. Without him BRFC would be languishing in the lower leagues.
For the last 2 decades Blackburn have secured their status as a premier league club. They are an established club with premier written all over. They deserve to be up there. Their record speaks for itself over the last 20 years.
Unfortunately, a few teams have to go down every year and this time round it was BRFC.
Fortunately, BRFC will be head and shoulders better than the others in the championship and should come up sooner rather than later. With the playing staff at their disposal it should be a formality.

Also..........
The problems did not start with Venkeys taking over, rather the issues were that the Walker family did not want to back BRFC in the manner that 'Our Jack Walker' did.
The demise began from when the family of Jack walker were not prepared to back BRFC in the manner that OUR Jack Walker would have expected.
The family had been trying to sell BRFC secretly just after the death of Jack Walker.
The problems of BRFC started from that point onwards.
BRFC waited for many months / years to find some buyers but to no avail.
It seemed no one wanted to buy the club. Eventually Venkeys bought the club.
Actually BRFC were fortunate that Venkeys did buy as there did not seem to be any other interest at all.
BRFC had no choice as the family of Jack Walker wanted to get rid of the (BRFC) family jewels.

We need to get used to the idea that foreigners own our football clubs,
If the people of Blackburn were so interested why did we not come up with a plan for the club together with the Jack Walker foundation and family.
Unfortunately, the Walker family were not interested in selling to the people as they would have not got much money from the people of Blackburn.
And the Walker family sold as they knew it was time to stop bank rolling BRFC and get as much as they possibly could , which they did and have now disappeared. away from BRFC.

Finally, Real football fans are those who stick through Good and bad times.
I ask ...you BRFC supporters...Are you a real BRFC fan...???
You can’t always be winners
And compared to some premier teams we are really small

Let’s be positive and get on with our job as supporters

Let’s get behind the team and playing staff and BRFC

And this should lead us to GLORY and the premiership.....SIMP

Mainly because you were charging an unbelievable £36 to watch a championship match.
But it was good conning the Yorkshire folk by buying kids tickets! Always fall for it

To play like that in the first half and then sit back and try to weather the storm is not the right way, the best form of defence is to attack but we will hopefully learn from this for the next game.

NO NAY NEVER!!!
"Hopefully learn from this" you say. We have been playing like this for almost two years under Kean and he HASN'T learned.
How long do you think it will be before the penny drops with him ?
The "negative posters" as you call them want him out and a proper manager in.
Kean has taken us down to the level we are now. Not the "negative posters"
The club will never progress whilst he's here

so where are the BRFC fans, we should be behind the team and get ourselves back in premiership where BRFC belong.
So Real fans lets get BRFC where they belong by supporting them.
Moron. If you had been there, you would have the support throughout the whole 99 minutes of the match. Yes, 99 minutes including injury time. Well done the lads and lasses that travelled!
I didnt go but listened on radio lancashire. I could hear the Rovers fans throughout, loud and clear. They were tremendous. Leeds fans said after the game how impressed they were. Why do so called Rovers fans feel the need to keep slagging off their own?

I was planning to review the relativity between the Clarets and their "just down the road" blue and white rivals. Unfortunately my PC monitor can't be tweaked enough to bring up a "NP Championship Table" screen where you can see both teams at the same time. Such a shame! Go Rovers!!!

Your words are of good insight though lacking empathy on the part of supporters who are at odds with the odious one, and the way a wrecking ball was taken to the club on the back of woeful and abject displays right the way through the club.

The buck stops with the odious one, and anyone of integrity is going to ask serious questions of this man's ability, and rightly so, but for the good of BRFC we have to man up in how we as supporters work with the odious one from this point onwards ?

His words are 'promotion' anything less will be deemed as a failure, and on that basis I will support that ambition. Let me say it here and now I support BRFC through any time whether I choose to attend home games or not for it is a vital component of our protest that Venky understands our dissatisfaction the way the club(community) is run, and when they find the stability that benefits the whole of BRFC then a vast majority of supporters will return, I hope ?

I had pleasure in being amongst the traveling support yesterday and we roared the boy's on with the Leeds fans singing 'Kean Out' more so than the following fans !

We are behind the team, club, shirt, badge - the rest have to earn our respect back, and I honestly hope that is the case for then BRFC and it's faithful will benefit and we can put all this behind us, although never to be forgotten, I may add !

Speaking of fans, really disappointed with how few you lads brought with you for such a short journey.
1600 or so fans away when we only have 8k season holders at home is pretty good actually.

We made sure we were heard that's for sure!
1600 is a good following considering it was £36 a ticket.
Just look around your own ground, Yesterday you had thousands of empty seats,
so don't criticise others, when your own fans wont pay Bate's extortionate prices.

p.s...Will be interesting to see how many you bring to Ewood, because the same price applies to you.

1) The free kick awarded to Rovers that led to the corner you equalised from should have been given the other way

2) No foul was made on Robbo for our 1st goal, so correct decision

3) 2 good penalty shouts for us both turned down

4) A 4th goal for us disallowed, still not sure why?

5) Whose fans seemed most disgruntled with the ref - booed at half time, full time and during the game?

Speaking of fans, really disappointed with how few you lads brought with you for such a short journey.

Thirty six pounds to watch a championship game is bloody disgraceful,in this time of austerity its no wonder seats are empty there was plenty to seen on the football league show last night .

We lost more points last season fom a winning position than ANY other team in the same league, looks like the same is going to be true this season, never mnd yesterdays OOHH we were fouled before the goal guff, Kean cannot hold onto a lead simples and for that alone should be SACKED.

Does everybody want Rovers to get promoted?

How can the owners sack Kean if the results leave Rovers in the top half?

Kean has at his disposal a very expensive team for the Championship. He has been the leader for two years and has shown how not to run a team, from fall outs with all influential players, to very poor decisions during a match.

The only way this nutcase stands any chance of being taken out of his job is for his results to match his performances.

I know it will be disheartening, but everytime he has some luck, the circumstances are forgotten , and the results show success, even if those who go can tell a different story.

He could be here for another two years if he hangs on with raggy decisions, and massive fan support.

Your words are of good insight though lacking empathy on the part of supporters who are at odds with the odious one, and the way a wrecking ball was taken to the club on the back of woeful and abject displays right the way through the club.

Hi Road Runner, I think I owe you an apology for my previous reply to your post .

I have just read it again and I have totally misread the point you were making, I have to agree with your comments.

Grovelling apologies.
No need Bluerob, but thanks all the same.

I would never lambaste the supporters for the stance that as been taken over these last 2 years. Although we attend or abstain we all want the same thing for BRFC.

Hate to say it, but on this occasion Walter Mitty is actually spot on. Leeds first was a foul on Robinson, there was a foul on Givet in the build up to their second, and even their third was off side!

Can't believe I am actually agreeing with him, but for once he is correct.
Maybe so, but for me (and I rate Robbo) he did not make enough of a comitted effort for the ball and I thnk thats what swayed the refs view.
As for the other two incidents , I thnk they can make similar fragile claims towards their 'issues'.
On the basis we did not really get the rub of the green, we can then hark back to Leicester where we most certainy did, and that for me simply 'balances it out'.
We are therefore left with, the fact that generally luck will balance out over a season, but Kean simply does not appear to be learning, so ur dissaray when pressured looks like it will continue.
Ten games in will tell if he is at last started to learn his trade.
