Pendle Martial Arts Academy hosted the Kano-Bushi Ryu (K.B.R) North-West Ground fighting Championships for the fifth consecutive year – and this year was by far the biggest.
The Championships saw competitors from across the North West and beyond travel to the Brierfield club and instructors Derek Whittaker and Catherine Horner, who organised the event were delighted.
“This is the best turnout we have ever seen,” said Derek. “I would like to thank all clubs, coaches, parents and volunteers who made the day a huge success. We are already planning the next one and looking forward to an exciting 12 months ahead.”
Fighter of the day awards went to Rebekah Loftus, William Ashton, Mason Smith and Reece Clarke.
The Fred Brown Memorial Trophy was awarded for outstanding contribution to Martial Arts – and this year’s winner was Masih family (Vinny, Reece, Shyann, Kameron & Kyall) who have trained at Pendle Martial Arts for the past six years.
Head coach John Stokes, said: “It’s extremely rare to find an entire family that share the same passion for martial arts but, in this instance, we are very proud to have them as part of our Academy.”
