NUNO Henrique looks set to become Blackburn Rovers ’ fifth Portuguese signing of the summer – with Polish international goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski also earning himself an Ewood Park move.

Henrique, a 25-year-old centre back from Academica De Coimbra, is expected to undergo a medical at Brockhall today with Rovers hopeful of securing his signature imminently.

The former Braga defender, an ex team-mate of Rovers striker Nuno Gomes, is likely to be joined this week by a sixth Iberian capture, with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Diogo Rosado still expected to complete his move before the close of the transfer window.

The Lancashire Telegraph also understands Sandomierski has already done enough to earn himself a Rovers switch after training this morning, with a fee agreed with Norwich City for Mark Bunn.

It is believed Bunn will depart Rovers for in excess of £1million, with a fee already agreed with Belgian outfit Genk for 22-year-old Sandomierski.

Rovers are still on the search for another striker before the transfer window closes on Friday but have been rebuffed in enquiries for Southampton striker Ricky Lambert.

Swansea City’s Luke Moore remains on the radar, with Rovers keen to add more pace to their ranks, but a shortlist of targets was being drawn up yesterday as the club consider their options.

Henrique is a 6ft 1ins tall centre back, who only signed for Academica Coimbra from Sporting Braga earlier this summer and is believed to be available for a nominal fee.

He spent last season loan at Feirense, having played for them earlier in his career, where he was a teammate of fellow Rovers target and compatriot Rosado.

Rovers remain confident of clinching Rosado’s signature before the window shuts, with just compensation between the two clubs remaining to be sorted.

Personal terms have already been agreed with the 22-year-old attacking midfielder and, although he is currently suffering from a slight hamstring injury, Rovers are confident a deal will be struck with Sporting Lisbon before the weekend.

Rovers supporters have been left surprised by the amount of Portuguese players the club have signed this summer.

Nuno Gomes, Fabio Nunes, Paulo Jorge and Edinho have already joined over the past couple of months, with Henrique and Rosado set to take the tally to six.

When asked the reason earlier this summer, boss Steve Kean said he felt Portugal was an untapped market.
