Kean: Only victories can pull stayaway Blackburn Rovers fans back to Ewood

PASSIONATE Blackburn fans PASSIONATE Blackburn fans

STEVE Kean knows Blackburn Rovers must secure early home wins to tempt stayaway fans back to Ewood Park – but he believes last season’s often hostile atmosphere can be changed with results.

Rovers play their first home game of the campaign against Hull City tonight, with a new kick-off time of 7.45pm this season, and there is expected to be a reduced crowd for the match with season ticket sales down because of dissatisfaction among fans as well as the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Sales are said to be nearing the 9,000 mark but that is still well short of the 14,000 sold last season.

Despite prices remaining low, there is the possibility of an attendance of below 15,000 for a league game this term for the first time since 1993.

Many fans have cited Kean’s continuing presence as boss as their reason for staying away and, with Leicester visiting Ewood on Saturday for a second home match in four days, the Scot says Rovers must start their season well on home soil if they are to boost gates.

“I think it’s our responsibility to make sure we get off to a good start,” he said.

“I think it’s a very economical ticket that the club have offered. The plan is for us to be at the top of the league or near the top of the league, then the fans who were not sure if they were going to come are going to be thinking, ‘I need to go and see a bit of that because it sounds as though it’s a good product’.”

Kean came under fire from fans during a number of home games last season, culminating in the 1-0 Ewood loss to Wigan that sealed their relegation.

But, despite many supporters still calling for a change of manager, he insists home wins can change that spiky atmosphere and believes it will not get in the way of Rovers’ promotion hopes. “I think it’s possible to win promotion and I think we have got a squad that’s well capable of getting promotion,” he said.

“I think we have to take the responsibility of creating the atmosphere, us as a team, as a staff, as a club.

“If the team that we put on the pitch plays good football and wins, then the fans cheer. If we don’t win, they don’t cheer. I think that’s the same everywhere.

“It (the atmosphere) wasn’t easy sometimes last season but that’s gone.

“What we’ve got to do now is focus on taking our responsibility and giving the fans something to shout about, that we’re playing good football, attacking football, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets, all the bits that make up points and ultimately take us up the league and get the fans in a positive mindset.

“We were losing lots of players last season, we had a very young side and at times we were a bit naive.

“But they’re all a year older now, the Jason Lowes, the Grant Hanleys, Adam Henleys, the ones who sometimes came in because we were very thin on the ground.

“They have now established themselves as first team players and can only benefit from that.”

And Kean hopes Rovers can reach a point where opponents fear coming to Ewood once more.

“I think when you look at the stats in this league you can’t afford to lose too many away games, never mind home games,” he said.

“What we want is to an intimidating atmosphere for the opposition.

“It’s been quite noted that when you go to places like Stoke, I think they were voted as one of the most vocal and it’s one of the most hostile grounds in the league above.

“We would love to have that once the season tickets start flying in and the results keep coming, that the atmosphere is a real intimidating place and when the opposition run out there’s a bit of fear.”

I think you'll get some of the fans back with a very very good run of results. But nothing we've seen so far in terms of tactics, particularly defending as a team, indicate that it will happen - whatever the division and spending on wages.

But it won't be truly harmonious until you are gone Steve. You need to pay the price for failure like everyone else. If you want to gain managerial experience in the lower leagues, we'd rather it not be with us.

Hi LP

I think you are correct, however if the "worst" happens, and Rovers start winning games, I fully expect the crowds to increase. Whilst there is hatred for Kean, supporting a "winning team" is attractive and some will return - not everybody, as some posters on here are a stubborn as me with their views, and will "stick to their guns" and wait, and then pay for the taxi for Kean!!

ONLY REMOVING STEVE KEAN WILL BRING FANS BACK
If he cares so much about the atmosphere he would resign with dignity and integrity but he has none of that!

In recent weeks he has told us that there is "No I in team" that Nobody is more important than the team. If he believes this its simple WALK AWAY. Instead we see numerous players frozen out when the man to blame stands there sabotaging our great football club. This storyline could only be dreamt up in Burnley.

Kean's comments are only what to be expected and to be fair, they're mostly sensible comments this time.

However, dress it up as you will, Kean is nowhere near competent enough to get Rovers promoted. FACT.

A change of manager will see plenty more fans buying tickets, it is that simple.

Well it's all been said - and quite frankly I'm disgusted with the almost 9,000 so called supporters who have bought season tickets!

We need this man and potentially the owners out now! They have taken the p*** out of the Blackburn public for too long now - and continue to do so ... and you renew your season tickets? As big a numpties as Kean, vote with your feet and hit these people in the pocket, that way things get sorted out quicker!

Anyhow - the latest 'stunt' comes tonight - we've only gone and ripped up years of tradition (Keans' style!) and moved to the away dugout - with no tickets sold in and around this area - lol! Masterstroke request from Kean again - anyhow the club is a mess ... just think of the squad of players Venkys inherited and look at this c*** now!

Enough is enough - hopefully tonight shall be the beginning of the end!

Just how deluded an idiot can this man be?

He continually speaks in the third party, as though he played no part in what went on last season, accepting absolutely no responsability for the friction between him and the fans, the poor results or his relationships with some of the players that led to the club basically imploading.

I hate Kean and all he represents with regards to Blackburn Rovers (nothing against him in his private life) As with many other fans I will not invest any more time or cash in supporting the club whilst he is the manager (season ticket for over 30 years, 1st game 1957, followed them away to some right S--t hole grounds)

However if he is sincere about mending relationships with the fans then he needs to show both contrition for his part in the sorry saga but also humility by respecting the clubs traditions and realising just what the club means to the town and it`s supporters.

Until then, my own personal protest will continue, no season tickets and I have also given up my car park space on Albert road 1 (as rare as rockin horse s--t) what I can`t believe though is that we have sold 9,000 season tickets! how? or more importantly who? are there really 9,000 supporters who believe Kean is doing a good job? no matter what you say to justify buying your season ticket, the fact is each season ticket purchased was a "YES" vote for Kean, shame on you.

Hi Flying
Some hardened fans will return but I fear many will never return just like after the cup final ticket disaster, I personally want to go down but my stomach churns at the thought of this complete idiot managing my club and I cant stand to look at him, this has alway been down to footballing reasons, nothing else, like I said earlier he IS the worst manager BRFC has ever had and Shebby can keep saying its a new start, well not for me not whilst he is still manager and thankfully there are thousands like me.

Reality is. If Kean is sacked, the transfer window is closed and we are left with what Kean brought In. There is not a club in this country who would have allowed its manager to continue after the last 18 months of terrible results. The Venkeys where clueless when they took over and you have to admit they still are. Three 1st team coaches in that time, why? And why the hell bring Henry in, to appease the

First game said it all. For a team that is going for promotion Kean should know you have to close out games and certainly not concede in the last 10 minutes. It wasn't the own goal that did it, it was Keans tactics. Rovers were always going to concede with the way they were setup. Even the deluded Kean admits they were too deep. So why did he not change that setup, cos he ain't got the experience to see the problem till after the event. I have always supported my local team and rovers were mine for 25 years and I've seen some sad times at various clubs but this guy takes the biscuit and has to be the worst manager I've ever seen that doesn't get sacked. There has to be more to this than we know about or he would have been fired long since.

We have to justify the owners backing - the owners have spent nowhere near as much as they should have done on players this season!
We were close to winning the game against Ipswich - they outplayed us for 70 minutes!
Winning will bring the fans back - One, you can't do it cause you're ****. Two, fans are staying away because YOU are in charge.

Seriously, why doesn't he just shut up. The fans wouldn't have given him this long at most clubs, and I'm not talking about his job there.

That's well over a quarter of a million pound revenue in ticket sales alone before you talk about food, drinks, programmes, replica shirts etc etc. The guy is costing the club around half a million pounds a year....and that's before the loss of Premier League TV Rights money and the £8.8 Million we got for finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League in 2010.....JUST SO KEAN CAN GET P1SSED DOWN THE PUB WITH HENDRY AND TAKE HIS FAMILY ON LAVISH HOLIDAYS.

9,000 season ticket holders! I’m surprised it’s that many.

People that still pump money into the club are akin to a parent that continues to feed junkfood to its obese child. They claim they do it because they love their child (club) and want to make it happy, however in reality their blind love and faith that the child will not die of illhealth (that Venkys will not kill Rovers) is absolute delusion. They don’t understand what tough love is – sometimes you have to do things that are painful in the short term for long term benefit. Just as a parent of an obese child may go into denial about their problem and will continue to feed them junk some fans still fund the destruction of their club by financially propping up Venkys out of misguided affection. It is this affection, although admirable, that is the problem. It is also this affection that those at the club are exploiting you for.

Steve Kean is on £25,000 per week. If you are still financially supporting Rovers YOUR money is partly funding his lifestyle.

No, renewing your season ticket was not a vote for Kean. I have stated on here before, some fans will not turn on their TEAM, no matter what. This does not mean we want that pr!ck in charge or agree with what he has done. Respect, to the people who are voting with their feet and us ST holders fully understand why this has been done, and I only wish I could have done the same but I can't!!

Stoke, managed by Pulis, a side who easily outdoes Allardyce for long ball tactics. I wish you would FO and manage them Kean. How long would their fans put up with your sh8. No, they have a credible manager who has actually achieved something positive rather than BS'd on about it.

Dear God, please get this IDIOT out of our club. Just when you think you've put it to the back of your mind this pillck opens his mouth and the bile rises once again.

YOU WILL NEVER WIN THE FANS OVER KEAN.

Hi French Rover

I said "worst" tongue in cheek, as some posters want this to happen. Yes if the "worst" happens, Kean will hopefully be sacked, however, this may not happen until later in the season, depending on results, and Rovers will then be playing "catch up", which will be difficult. I would rather see a successful season with Rovers in the promotion places, at least play off position, and then do a Huddersfield, where they sacked the manager late in the season and were able to still have the points in the bag to win promotion with a new man at the helm.

We all know that Kean should have gone before now and does not deserve the "honour" of managing our club.

All the Best to Players. Win is a must in Ewood today. Talk Less after the game too. (Look at M.city manager, still he say M.united is a better club to win the trophy, but he keep the pace of the game with him to win and he wins at the end)

Hope Kean take tution for player's substitution while the game is ON.

If things don't work out on match days then we have to make the difference inside with getting this idiot out, but I'm afraid I am RTID and always will be, so please don't shame us, as we don't shame you for staying away - We all want the same, and the day this happens cannot come soon enough.
Kean will absolutely allude to Venkys and the media that your attendance endorses his tenure. If you do not vocally call for his sacking you are acquiescing to everything that Venkys, Anderson and Kean have done to our club.

There is no way this buffoon will be able to secure even a play-off place. The longer he stays the more likely we will finish in the bottom half. Come Xmas, Murphy and the like will be crying iff injured and our better players will be desperate to jump ship in the January window e.g. Richards (if he maintains his form.

Hull are expecting to take around 3000 tonight and generally are at this level a well supported team on their travels. You may touch 14k if you are lucky tonight but your really bad gates will come if you start badly and also play some of the poorer supported teams on their travels eg Watford Palace Bristol City Peterborough and Charlton.Rovers are lucky that over two thirds of the Championship this season are clubs in the North and the Midlands and mostly clubs that will bring thousands eg Burnley Bolton Blackpool Leeds Huddersfield Forest Derby Leicester Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday. That fact alone will distort Rovers real support base and I wouldn't be surprised if Rovers actually increase numbers of away supporters at Ewood this season that last season in the Premier League.

Had we all been of the same mind about how to do it, we would have been more effective. As it has been and still is, a minority still believe what they are told by the idiots, a smaller minority even feel sympathy for Kean, the largest majority are of the belief that in the first instance getting rid of Kean is the first step to change but not all of that majority agree on whether fans need to boycott or support Keans team. Its a sad situation when such incompetent and unintelligent people have managed to bring about such a divide in the fans whereby some are pouring shame on others who bought tickets and some who bought tickets are accusing those who didn't of not being proper supporters. That's one tactic Venkys and co have planned well. I didn't renew. After almost 40 decades of supporting Rovers, it has upset me as well as angered me that iv had to make that decision. Each time I read Keans comments though it makes me more determined. I just cannot stomach him anymore and as I haven't got the luxury of telling him that I'm just making my point by not buying a ticket. I think Rovers will win tonight and I hpe they do as I don't believe Shebby or any of the others will sack Kean. I don't actually believe anything they say

I personally cannot see a loser like Kean being able to transform into a winner at all his mind set is all wrong. This transfer window we should have been buying a couple of experienced defenders not a load of Portugese players who wont be involved at all.I wonder if the Shebby situation has produced these transfers but Kean worked in Portugal so it seems like they are his selections.I am one of those who originally said I will boycott the matches but have changed my stance from hatred for Kean and the Venkeys to thinking why should my son and I suffer in not watching our team just because of those idiots so we are going to support the team and totally ignore Kean and the Rao brothers.

Did this drop in attendances happen the last time we were relegated? No. And why? Because we had hope, faith and trust in the professionals that were running the club. We are owned and run by a bunch of footballing fools and a comedy manager who's manipulative lies and denial is beyond belief.

Your £225 per year counts for nothing compared to the Sky money we will receive back in the Premiership and we stand a much better chance of getting there without you. Venky's own the club, Steve Kean is manager and you are irrelevant.
You have no financial interest in the club, you have no voting rights. Your £225 per year counts for nothing compared to the Sky money we will receive back in the Premiership and we stand a much better chance of getting there without you. Anyone chanting Kean Out at tonight's game should be forcibly evicted.
So you do not agree with your hero Kean then ?

I am absolutely fuming sat writing this.

Not going tonight is going to kill me. Literally 5 minutes from the ground and these complicit, divisive b'strds have drawn the battle lines that see's 1000's of supporters staying away.

Now we have to listen to the odious one claim that wins are going to see fans return in droves ?

When are they and the odious one going to understand that many, many folk will not return regardless if our team wins under this preposterous situation.

The odious one took the reigns of this club through shear skulduggery on his and others part thus creating this fractious environment mainly down to his inability in achieving that which he so gleefully spouts day in day out, week in week out, month in month out, and year in year out resulting in alienating more and more of the seasoned supporters, who cannot accept that this abject loser is still being given license to fail.

Those who attend tonight will see just what is on offer, and unless we get one of the 'rabbit out the hat' games the odious one is capable of then I will predict another 20 minute barrage(with a goal) then we will sit behind the ball non- plussed whilst the odious one sits in his now opposite dugout.

I have reached new levels of disdain toward the odious one and I absolutely believe our team is now a 'premature ****' under this current regime. This abject failure is very close to being allotted a place in the 'Guinness Book Of Records' for the guff that as flowed out of his gob.

I am so very angry with this on going charade that besieges our embattled club, and a vast majority of it's supporters are isolated.

1400 attended Ipswich Saturday, and I'm sure most would agree with me should our team repeat the showing of that then a positive result will not be forthcoming regardless of which side of the divide you sit on.

For all those attending in the main I expect them to back the team right the way through the game no matter what the result, performance etc for what is the reason for your attendance otherwise ?

It is a chuffing travesty that this situation still exists, and I will never forget the reasons why until they show some mettle and boot this imposter out the door.

To all my fellow Rovers supporters who attend tonight I expect you to create the atmosphere for our team with no recriminations for is it not that you have made your choices in attending thus you have no real cause to criticize that which you openly condone under this imposter ?

Just a thought folk's ?

Hi RR.....love the rant sir, some great points made. Hope you can contain the anger and be at peace soon.

This so called manager has succeeded though in a couple of things, turning fan against fan, alienating a large number of longtime and loyal supporters, and fooling his employers (if indeed they are fooled) into thinking he has the towns support and that he is doing a good job and will get there in the end? That he has not been ousted yet is almost beyond belief. He must be the holder of some dark and terrible secrets. Or some Rovers shares.

I know you will hear the Cheers and the Jeers from your front room this evening and I understand how hurtful and hard that will be....but you know that I believe your exile is in vain RR, the man they call Odious will not go because of either losses or lies - he has had too many of both of those already and yet he is still very much present.

My suggestion would be for the Rovers to start winning games and move up the table and we get full houses at Ewood - where 30000 Rovers fans can gather and ALL sing Kean Out through the match. Now that would be a powerful voice/sound/message that would be heard everywhere - even in deepest India.

3-1 to the Rovers tonight Woody! Best Wishes.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it's up to each individual whether or not they want to buy a season ticket. However, there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding people's reasons for doing one or the other.

For those saying that by purchasing a season ticket, replica shirt, etc., fans will be lining Venky's pockets, thus delaying the sale of the club or removal of Steve Kean as manager. This isn't true. The only way that Venky's will sell is if an outrageous offer comes their way, their other businesses suffer or we fail to gain promotion in the next few years - after all what good is a Championship club when you're using it to promote your brand?

Steve Kean's departure, if it ever happens, will have nothing to do with the financial side of things at Blackburn Rovers. If anything, the lack of funds in the club's coffers will probably delay his sacking and also hinder the appointment of a decent manager, should that bridge ever be crossed. After all, ticket and merchandise sales are usually allocated towards to paying of all club staff and the upkeep of the stadium.

As for those who have bought season tickets and referred to stay-away fans as 'not real supporters', shame on you. The decision to stop attending home games is obviously a very difficult one, but ultimately one taken as it's the only way to try and get the message across to Venky's that until Kean is gone the club WON'T be the big, happy family that they want it to be.

Granted, this message will be hard to get across when Kean's misleading comments are seemingly printed without any questions asked or a footnote added stating that these are not the views of the majority of fans.

Also, any fan stating that they'll be attending Ewood Park to support their team - not Steve Kean - is only fooling themselves. The training, team selection, tactics and substitutions are all decided by Kean. Therefore you are supporting Kean's choices so, as a direct result, supporting the man himself.

You may feel better by telling yourself otherwise but, alas, this isn't possible, let alone true.

I suggest all the in-fighting stops now. By all means slate the manager, players, owners, staff, tactics, results, Burnley, etc. Just stop slating each other.

Wrong, wrong, wrong you fat liar.
It's an insult to the fans to suggest they're staying away due to the shocking performances and poor results.

The level of disillusionment and anger transcends what goes on the pitch. The way the club is being run stinks, and the fans are tired of being ignored, lied to and having their intelligence insulted.

If we had a point for every lie you've told we'd have won the premiership last year, and we'd still hate you.

A yes vote for Kean and should be ashamed? have you never heard of divide and conquer? Im going tonight, and id vote for Kean-to be tied up in my cellar !

Hi Mr French....

The pull to go down tonight and rid myself of the stance I hold is strong.

It isn't of no matter if we win, lose or draw Mr French for as you know it's the participation that is paramount.

We always want our team to win, and this is why your comments are endearing in your wishes for our team. Yours(IMO) isn't rose tinted glasses, but a great positive desire that as never become tainted, and that in my opinion is what is positive and ambitious about our club even in this diversity.

We all know the matter(s) for our reservations, and if I'm going to crack and return then I have to buy into this vision, ambition of the odious one with no complaints and hope our club can turn the corner(which as we have said we always do) eventually.

That is the dilemma facing me here as you know ?

Stick or twist ?

Best regards Mr French and it is on the way to you as we speak :)

We are all equal as supporters.

To suggest some supporters are better or worse than others is naive, arrogant and, quite frankly, stupid.

What total twaddle to blame the supporters for relegation. There is only one person to blame and that is the useless arrogant, egotistical jackass that Venkys call a manager.

That's the biggest load of **** since Kean last opened his mouth. So do we lie down and carrying on having the p1ss taken out of us? £225 a year may count for nothing to Venkys but to me and thousands others that have spent tens of thousands (in my case for over 30 years) it means a hell of a lot. If the 'KEAN OUT' brigade boycott the games, the 'KEAN IN' brigade (all 5 of you) may as well sit in the dugout with the lying b4stard whilst we drop down the leagues. He is a management disaster and until he's sacked Rovers are doomed. Are you a dingle? Or Keans rent boy?

Anyone that goes on tonight, give the team 100% backing whilst on the pitch. Before, at half time and after the final whistle, give Kean/Hendry/Venky's absolute hell.

Maybe if we filled the ground on Satuday and did this it would show everyone that we are 100% Rovers and 0% Kean/Hendry/Venky's and then choose to boycott after that match. A large visible statement is required as nothing else seems to have worked.

I cannot condemn people for going on, my best mates are both there tonight. I have openly told them I disagree with them, but, it would tear them apart not to go. They are true supporters of over 30 years, went all over europe, meaningless friendlies at Aberdeen, you name it they did it. They just love Rovers more than they hate Kean etc.

I hate all the divisiion amongst the Rovers fans at the moment. What would Uncle Jack think of all the in fighting between us all. It would crucify him to see what has become of his and our Rovers. Sadly, there is no easy answer as the people that mae the decisions have their heads well and truly buried in the Indian sand.

Good luck to one and all tonight. Stay safe.

Im the same. Got relatives going and we have had to agree that we each make our own decisions. We argued though last season after every game. It was not what I have experienced football to be about. we had a young squad and were thin on the ground in terms of cover?? Who's fault was that??? You got rid of Salgado, Emerton, Nelsen etc... YOU allowed Samba to go after 'standing your ground' and never got anyone in to replace him. YOU signed the youngsters who were too inexperienced to keep us up! YOU are a t*at Kean. The sooner you go, the sooner the fans return!!

Howdy RTH - hope you are well?
.
Good suggestion but I think we did that several times last season including the final game so now all we can do is leave the stadium empty until he goes even if there are a few die-hards who as you say have to go even though they hate Kean. That would prbably have been me 20 or 30 years ago but as you get older you see things more clearly and will not accept what's gone on this last 2 seasons.

Gotta get shut before he loses to Dingles!

I have been supporting Rovers since the first season after the war and have seen six relegations during that time, this has never stopped me supporting the club or to miss a campaign.

It will cause untold heartache not to be at Ewood this season unless there are radical changes at the club including the removal of Kean. At the same time I criticise no one for making their own choice

I think they're all a year older now (well two months older) all the people who need to be gotten rid of: the Steve Keans, the Bilaj Raos, the Anurada Desais, the Venkieses, the Jerome Andersons, the Jerome Andersons sh*t player sons, the SEMs, the Kentaros, the Paul Agnews, the Colin Hendrys, the Bradley Orrs, the Shabby Singhs, the season ticket holders - all older and more experienced at ruining the club.

Ah well, two games gone and already in the Play Off positions! Stunning performances from SK's new signings Etuhu, Nunes and Gomes. I forgive the dullards who continued to chant KEAN OUT. They are more to be pitied than scorned as it is much easier the chant two words of one syllable than to debate rationally, the circumstances created by firesale of the club by The Walker Trust and the ensuing turmoil that this created. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday but please learn some new chants...........you are starting to sound a bit boring now.

This season was to have been my 40th as a rovers fan - what part of "we are not going back untill Venkys and all the bloodsuckers who have been bleeding our club dry have gone" do this deluded clowns not understand. It is a pity we did not stay up so we could have shown that this boycott was going to happen irrespective of which division we remained in. There have been so many disgraceful acts and decisions which have all accumulated in long standing fans finally deciding that enough is enough. For me the final straw was my kids being treated as criminals for trying to enter the ground with pies bought at Lever's bakery on Bolton Road - something we've always done for years.

He had plenty to say on Talksport yesterday with Keys and Gray, trouble is it was all complete bull.

He made the right noises when he arrived but Im afraid he just sounds like the rest of them now, can no longer take him seriously.

The Dumpwood circus begins again tonight. The players with come onto the pitch riding unicycles and juggling, maybe Kean will be fired out of a cannon at half time after Seigfried and Roy have tamed the 6 angry fans in the "crowd" with a chair and whip.
Are you lot not fed up yet with all this debacle which has got you where exactly?...........a
