BOXING CLEVER Shayne Singleton (back, left) with young members of Sandygate Boxing Club at the club’s awards evening
Burnley’s Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club held it’s ever popular fourth annual awards bash at the Rosegrove Unity WMC – and the night was anything but a Pain thanks to star guest Shayne Singleton.
Colne’s unbeaten stylist, nicknamed the Pain, turned up to hand over the awards in front of a packed house with fighters past and present in attendance, while club coach Nik Tucker was MC.
The first gongs given out were for the club’s up-and-coming talent.
Burnley’s Connor Shaw (11) and Barnoldswick’s Regan Driver (13) both picked up the honours.
Junior Bout-Of-The-Year went to Burnley’’s Brett Windle (14) for his points win against last year’s Schoolboy Champion from the Isle of Man, with Accrington’s Lee O’Hara collecting the Senior Plaque for his two encounters with the Yorkshire Region belt holder.
Most improved boxer awards were dished out to ‘The Padiham Power Station’ Brandon Hartley (15) and Burnley’s Callum ‘2-Tone’ Rainey (16).
The Howard Rigg Boxer of the Year titles were earned by Nelson’s Charlie Martin (15) and Colne’s Joe Knight (19) and the final award of the evening was given to Colne’s Lloyd Baldwin (23) who’s dedication to training , attitude in and outside the squared circle earned him the Bob Rosbotham Trophy. The club would like to thank all those who have helped in the past season, a season that yielded five Northwest Champions, a National Amateur Boxing Association finalist for the third year running and a New Boxing Gym.
