Kean admits Rovers were too deep
6:08pm Saturday 18th August 2012 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean admits his Blackburn Rovers side were too deep in the second half of today's 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
The Rovers boss believed yellow cards to Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu allowed the hosts to seize the initiative – but insists it is not a bad point to open their Championship season.
Colin Kazim-Richards gave Rovers the first half lead but, under pressure for most of the second half, a Jason Lowe own goal earned Ipswich a deserved point.
Kean said: “I think the two big factors in the game were the chance that falls to Colin when it narrowly goes over. If that goes in the game is dead and buried.
“Then what affected us getting a lot deeper is the cards for Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu. They found themselves in a difficult position because they can't make a mistimed tackle.
“That stopped us putting pressure on the ball and we got a little bit deep and ended up giving away too many free kicks and too many penalty area entries.
“When the lads take a card they are reluctant to push in. In the first half there were lots of tackles and lots of interceptions.
“We were left with the decision to change them or hold on and try and score a second, which we nearly did..
“Full credit to Ipswich I think they are an excellent side and this is a very difficult place to come. “

Once again we can not defend a lead - we can not kill sides off when we get ahead - we drop back even further the longer the game goes on - the tactics have been the same since Kean took over there is no Plan B ever
What is it about playing players out of position - Lowe was never and never will be a left back - why not Adam Henley or does Kean prefer accomodating his chums - Bradley Orr. As for bringing on David Dunn as a pair of fresh legs with Goodwillie who runs the channels well on the bench - sums the guy up
You need to do more in the Championship than pick up an odd point away from home - ask your friend Shebby - is that a clock I hear ticking - it should be

never allow deep play, attack is only solution, why u did not change Murphy when he got a yellow card. Senior players give a hint for change in this way without asking the manager while the play is ON. Same case with enthu also....hahaha, just confirm with players before the next game. because of yellow card we cannot give the ball to opposite players to ride over our post........OK.

They are always without fail so ridiculous it is embarrassing to see them in print, and usually they are an insult to every Rovers fans intelligence.
If two midfielders were booked and we were playing too deep as a consequence - then why did he not do his job and switch things round? He could have done a few things like bring another midfielder on or moved Lowe into midfield.....really the only thing he should do now is leave the club. Tomorrow would be a good day.

Especially after going one up.

Clinical remarks and spot on.
I was just going to say:
Kean, get out of your chuffing dugout and manage the blasted team !
It was obvious to every chuffing man and his dog that Ipswich were lining up the scope for the equalizer for 20 minutes or so and kean steps out of his DUG OUT and guess what ?
THEY SCORE !
Genuis !
He changed nothing in my estimation and we payed the price for hoofing the ball, yes hoofing the ball, to Kazim(cracking debut by the way) only for the ball to arrive back - PRESSURE !
I know it was weather to rival your neck of the woods, but they didn't need to treat the ball as though it was red hot too !
MGP and Etuhu = stinker imo ?
That said, under normal circumstances we would be over joyed at a draw(look at our record v Ipswich at Portman Rd), but these are not normal times, as we know.
Had a great day mixing it with the fans on the coach and a fine day was had by all. The support for the club is strong even in this adversity, and I'm pleased to have gone down.
Kean must still go, I'm afraid. Nothing as changed on that, and we have to hope he his now on a results based solution ?
I could go on Mr French :)

Since then I've always followed the team and I have to say I've never seen anything like this. I check up on rovers news every day for the last 10 years. Venky's could be the worst owners in the history of sports. I've never seen a coach/manager get so much support for so little production. In a time and place where people only care about what others have done for them, Venky's should be asking the question: What has Kean done for the club. Forget all of the money Venky's has been able to pocket from the sale of players and the subsequent bargain deals Kean has put on the pitch, The money we would be getting from being in the Prem has to be more, right?

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but he has only managed 3 back-to-back wins in his 1 and a half seasons in charge. We have never won 3 league games back-to-back with this useless muppet in charge, so if we were to lose or draw against Hull on Wednesday, he would need to win the remaining 5 games back-to-back!
With the "score 1 and defend deep for the rest of the game" being his only (flawed) tactic, we will lose more than we win or draw. Simple as that.
I'm worried that the Shebster will back-track on his promise of losing 3 consecutive games or that the bearded lady has already stepped in to stop him sacking kean at all. However,If he does have the power, it needs to be either the 3 consecutive games or the 16 point target from a possible 21 and to do it immediately. If we lose the next 2 games he should be sacked.
Lets be honest, after the 7 games, we are going to be closer to 6 points than 16 points.
Come on Shebby, if ever there was a no-brainer then it's to remove this imposter and lets all have a clean slate with an actual football manager in charge to get the best from the players and to recognise when things need changing during a game and to do something about it!

With this mixed team of old and desperate professionals there should be no expectations of grandeur this season from the fans....mid-table is the best we can hope for.
ONLY a change of team management & coaches and an induction of young quality players will save the season...yet it would have to happen in the next month.
Very sadly I cannot seeing the Venky,s moving conman Kean on and I very much doubt they have the ability to take the right action and have the knowledge of the game to make a wise choice of a replacement.
I feel Anderson/Kean are fully in control here and the circus act will continue to frustrate us through the season.

But a point away on the opening day is usually not a bad result for most teams no matter whom you are playing as we all start off even for the first match. Maybe our expectations are higher than then others when we are not happy with a point away? Guess it depends on how we fare against Hull in midweek. A win against the Tigers will make the point at Ipswich quite a decent one. A defeat doesn't even bear thinking about....hear that Keanio and heed the warning!
French Rover wrote:Evening Mr French..
Surprised to see so many Rovers fans complaining that it was a poor result....maybe a lot of fans expectations are higher than most people expected. But we did really need a win to get the season started in the right way. A draw away is OK, better one point away than none - but it was a poor Ipswich side and we should have done better. Especially after going one up.
As for Kean's comments - I have given up reading them as they begger belief and bear no semblance to reality.

When will you deluded cave dwellers just accept that the only time you'll see Rhodes at Dumpwood is when he's firing in a 30 yarder into the top corner to complete his hatrick in April When you play Huddersfield.
Why would he possibly come to a club that is a laughing stock and run like a circus. It won't be just for the money, the Huddersfield chairman is worth somewhere in the region of 500 million so I'm pretty sure he will dish out a few more quid in wages to keep him happy. Huddersfield are a forward thinking family orientated club who have big ambition and momentum. Rovers are still sinking in hatred and uncertainty. Would you want to leave Huddersfield and come to Blackburn if you were him?
their masses, is this really where such a talented young footballer would go and expect to develop into a better player?
Maybe 3-4 years ago Rovers would have been a great move for him but right now at this present time you have to agree that it would do more harm than good for his career.
Won't worry Rovers too much of course, if anyone wants him should that happen, the contractual payout would be huge, but you simply can't understate what a difference even coming here for a season or two will make to the outcome and Kean at least seems to be aware of it.

- Jordan Rhodes allowed to speak to Rovers.
- Rovers believe they have got him.
I was told yesterday evening that he WOULD be signing Monday. That was from two different sources. So my confidence is high. If it doesn't happen today, it's happening this weekend unless HT pull a fast one, no-one else is in the bidding race and he WANTS to come to Rovers.
