Ramsbottom United ready for step up in Evo-Stik League
10:02am Friday 17th August 2012 in Sport
RAMSBOTTOM United joint manager Bernard Morley is relishing the challenge of the club’s first ever season in the Evo-Stik League and is hopeful of a top 10 finish.
The Rams, who won the North West Counties League Premier Division title in April, will entertain Cammell Laird in a First Division North fixture at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium tomorrow.
Morley, who manages alongside Anthony Johnson, believes that despite a less than ideal pre-season his team are set for a good year.
“Everyone is raring to go,” he said. “Squad wise it’s been difficult as we’ve had all our back four out during pre-season, but I have a lot of confidence in the team.”
Apart from the exit of Grant Spencer, Ramsbottom have managed to keep the majority of their title-winning squad together. Morley is also confident that the signing of experienced players like Phil Edghill and former Ram Barry Shuttleworth have given them impetus to have a strong season.
Morley is quietly confident and said: “Some people may say it’s optimistic but I believe we can achieve a top 10 finish this season, but it’s very hard to predict, you just never know at this level.
“In terms of ability I don’t believe there’s too much difference between the two leagues. Obviously there’s more quality in the league but the teams in this division are a lot more organised, which makes the difference.”
