Niamh scoops top sixes places in Age Group championships
NIAMH Robinson produced the swims of his life to cement her place among the best young swimmers in the country.
The 12-year-old from Pioneer 79 Amateur Swimming Club took part in the National Age Group Championships in Sheffield – the most prestigious event that any age group swimmer can possibly aim to compete in each year.
The talented youngster competed in four events and came away as the sixth best swimmer in her age group.
Her first event was the 200m backstroke and her qualifying time of 2mins 34.23 made her 29th fastest going in to the event.
But she topped that with a new pb of 2.33.42 to finish 22nd overall.
She was chasing another personal best time in her next event, the 200m breaststroke .
She qualified for the final with a new pb of 2.47.92 – knocking almost seven seconds off her previous personal.
She qualified fifth fastest for the final and while her time of 2.49.80 was slower than that achieve in the heat, it still made her the sixth fastest in the country in the 12 year age group.
In the 100m Backstroke, Niamh finished in 28th position, however, her entry time places her currently 24th fastest 12 year old in the country.
Niamh’s final event, the 100m Breaststroke took place just 30 minutes after her 100m Backstroke swim, qualifying 12th fastest on her entry time of 1.20.74, she knew she only had to go faster than two other swimmers to achieve a place in the final which she achieved.
With nothing to lose, Niamh turned at the 50m point in 9th position in a time of 37.81, but her final 50m was incredible, inching ahead of a major rival of hers, Lara Bate from Stockport who was in the next lane, Niamh finished in an amazing 7th position, in a new personal best time of 1.18.60. This time puts her again as 6th fastest 12 year old in the country in this event.
