MALI international Garra Dembele will begin a trial with Blackburn Rovers today – while Portuguese midfielder Paulo Jorge is set to be offered a contract with the club.

Freiburg striker Dembele, 26, has fallen out of favour with his German club and will be handed the chance to kick start his career.

Dembele has been offered to Rovers on a season-long loan but boss Steve Kean has opted to take him on trial before deciding whether to add him to his Championship squad.

One player likely to be part of next season’s campaign is Porto’s 18-year-old defensive midfielder Paulo Jorge after the Lancashire Telegraph was told he would be offered a contract following an appearance in yesterday’s behind closed doors friendly defeat to Macclesfield.

Jorge has come through the youth ranks at Porto and is a current Portuguese under 19 international and, if he accepts Rovers’ offer, will be available for a minimal compensation fee.

Rovers meanwhile still don’t expect their interest in QPR striker Jamie Mackie to come to anything, with Mark Hughes expected to keep him at Loftus Road.

French-born Dembele was due to arrive in England last night as Rovers handed him a chance to revive his career after a disappointing season at Freiburg.

The striker, who helped Mali to third place in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, was snapped up by Freiburg a little more than 12 months ago for 2.5million euros, having hit 24 goals in just 26 appearances for Bulgarian club Levski Sofia.

Dembele has had his personal problems in the past but will hope to earn himself a loan deal at Rovers with some impressive performances over the next few days.

Meanwhile reports claiming Junior Hoilett has already had a medical at QPR are understood to be false, with the winger yet to announce where he will be playing next season.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands Borussia Monchengladbach are leading the chase for him, with a decision expected imminently.

Former Rovers defender Colin Hendry is expected to finally be officially unveiled as a new coach at the club in the next few days, after he has taken full part in the pre-season opening.

The Lancashire Telegraph have also been told reports linking Rovers with a move for Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach are false.
