BURNLEY are waiting for news of Steven Fletcher’s exit from Wolves as they consider their striker options – with the Clarets’ budget set to be boosted by a sell-on fee for the Scot.

Burnley last night put the final touches to a loan deal for Reading left back Joseph Mills, with the 22-year-old at the club yesterday to discuss the deal and undergo medical checks.

The Clarets also yesterday confirmed the departure of Zavon Hines, as well as a new 12-month contract for Alex MacDonald, and they remain firmly interested in former loan striker Sam Vokes.

Vokes was included in Wolves’ squad to travel to Ireland for their pre-season training camp but it is understood that a move to Burnley is still highly possible this summer.

They face competition from one or possibly two other clubs, however, with Brighton also linked following a loan spell on the south coast last season.

The Clarets have been taking a patient approach to their quest to add a fourth striker to their squad for the new season, as they wait to see if further funds become available when Fletcher leaves Wolves.

Burnley inserted a sell-on clause in the deal that took Fletcher to Molineux two years ago and would be in line to receive a healthy fee should the Scot move on for a good price.

Fletcher is expected to depart Wolves in the near future following their relegation from the Premier League, with Sunderland strongly linked with a £10m deal for the 25-year-old.

Should his transfer go through soon, Burnley are expected to use any funds they receive to make a bid for Vokes.

There could be the added complication, though, that Fletcher’s departure could move Vokes higher up the pecking order at Molineux.

New Wolves boss Stale Solbakken will use this week’s trip to Ireland to further assess whether Vokes features in his plans, but the forward is still interested in a switch to Turf Moor.

Howe currently has three front line strikers – Charlie Austin, Danny Ings and Martin Paterson – but is keen to add another after allowing Hines to leave.

Hines signed a 12-month deal with Burnley last summer with an option for a further year, but the Clarets had been in talks over the 23-year-old’s exit after deciding not to retain him.

“Things didn't work out for me at Burnley and I don't know why really,” said Hines, who had a loan spell with Bournemouth at the end of last term.

“It was unfortunate, but I guess that is football and you have to put it behind you and move on - to show those people what they are missing.

“I think there have been a few little things going on with clubs looking to sign me, but I will leave all that with my agent.

“I see myself as playing in the Championship, but obviously I will go to League One to prove myself and show to people that I am back to my best.

“I am prepared to go anywhere, but in an ideal situation I would like to be as close to London as possible.”

But Burnley have confirmed a new one-year deal for 22-year-old MacDonald, who had been in talks over a new contract since the end of last season.

Clarets forward Cameron Howieson has arrived at the Olympic village as he prepares to represent New Zealand at the Games, with their first game against Belarus on July 26.

* Burnley’s new-look board held their first meeting since Mike Garlick and John Banaszkiewicz were appointed as joint chairmen in May.

Garlick and Banaszkiewicz replaced outgoing chairman Barry Kilby and the duo opted to move the board meeting from Turf Moor to Gawthorpe as they met Eddie Howe and his squad as well as taking a look at the latest developments at the club’s training ground.
