Blackburn Rovers eye QPR striker
9:55am Wednesday 18th July 2012 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers are keeping a watching brief on QPR striker Jamie Mackie and are prepared to offer him a lucrative package to drop out of the Premier League.
Rovers boss Steve Kean believes the 26-year-old would be a valuable addition as the Ewood Park outfit bid to return to the top flight at the first attempt and he would get the financial backing to attempt to land him – if Rangers decide to make him available.
Rovers sources though have denied reports the club has already submitted a bid for him, with a £3.5million valuation touted, and admit they don’t expect the former Plymouth man to be for sale.
Unofficial enquiries are understood to have been made and dialogue is likely to continue between clubs as Rovers monitor his situation closely.
Mackie is currently on QPR’s pre-season tour of Asia, featuring in their opening game yesterday, and is understood to be wanting to be a part of Mark Hughes’ Premier League plans next campaign.
Fierce competition for places for the striking berths at Loftus Road has left Mackie concerned about his QPR future and is likely to want a move away if he isn’t going to get regular first team football.
Rovers are not the only team interested in the striker but, despite interest from Premier League clubs, are understood to be ready to offer him better terms than elsewhere.
It is even believed that Mackie would be offered almost double, after bonuses, what he is currently on at Loftus Road leaving the player seriously tempted by a move to East Lancashire.
Junior Hoilett’s decision on his own future could help Rovers’ cause in the next few days – but only if he opts to move to QPR, over Newcastle United and German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hoilett’s Rovers contract has already expired but the club would be entitled to a compensation figure in the region of £4million if he opted to stay in England.
Rovers and QPR could look to come to an agreement with both players likely to cost a similar fee, although Hoilett would first have to agree to a Loftus Road move and Mackie would have to agree to switching to Rovers.
Mackie signed a one-year extension at QPR in May, contracting him to the club to 2015, after playing a key role in their dramatic Premier League survival.
Meanwhile Rovers are still waiting to hear whether Sporting Lisbon are prepared to sell Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva, after weeks of talks.

Why are we going after strikers who've always been not quite good enough? Bring in some defenders!!!!! It's not rocket science!! From the beginning of last season we've lost Jones, Samba, Nelsen and Salgado, and replaced them with Scott Dann and Bradley Orr (I'm not including Myles or Bruno in this).

Shebby also said we were aiming to have all our transfers done before the team left for Austria. After everything that has been said about Rovers in this current regime, I'll remain critical and hope I'm proved wrong. There has been nothing to change my mind yet, and a few links with 6/10 defenders won't do it!

Wouldn't it be nice if we had owners who actually spoke to the fans and conveyed their hopes and explained their plans for the future of the club, instead of everything being shrouded in secrecy.
Some of the things going on just don't make sense, so why don't they just explain to the loyal, long standing fans of BRFC and clear up any misunderstandings. Surely it really is that easy.

The priority is to get rid of Paul Robinson who will be even more of a liability in the championship and off load that waste of oxygen Scott Dann. We then need defensive signings and atleast 3 of them. Mark Bunn is a very good goalkeeper, so we are sorted there.
-
The other priority of course is to sack that waste of space Kean. I guess once we are languishing in the lower mid table come christmas, even the fat indian lady will see the light and finally sack him.

Have you ever seen Kean manage a team?
There will be 1 man upfront, with a tenuous 'man in the hole' and the rest of these 'strikers' will be left on the bench or thrown on in the 85th minuite as a winger when were 2 or 3-0 down.
I wonder if Kean will say anything on the touchline this season or just continue to stand there licking his lips.

Brazilian full back Riberio played the first half along with Linganzhi. Jordon Slew and O'Connor were both given games also but it was a reserve team player Hugo Fernandez who scored two second half goals to give us the win. Seems we have a new striker in the making with this young Spaniard.
Good to see the young lads doing well....

If there are "websites full of goons waiting to pounce" why don't they make a statement in the LET and try to make amends with the fans? Put us all in the picture. No, they wouldn't lower themselves, would they.
It was they who ignored everyone who tried to contact them last season when it was clear to all that things were 'going wrong' and since then, no direct contact or clear the air statement.
Talking about a clean slate this season, here is a perfect opportunity for them to try to grasp the olive branch that they were offered and try to make amends.

Just be thankful that in the information age you get to hear rumour, gossip, lies, truths et al and can decide what you want to believe yourself and all from the comfort of your sofa.
Not taking either side, but can someone explain how much respect or informatiom from owners/managers was there pre-venkys?
I'm pretty sure we were still reading the same gossips and rumours we are now, the only thing that was different was we had managers and owners who had a clue about running a club!
Just responding to a comment earlier about owners not listening to the fans etc.
My point being , the owners SHOULDN'T have to listening to the fans where the unsackable one is considered and WOULDN'T be expected to at any club, they should and would be expected to figure it out themselves - which clearly they don't seem to?

But still he's here.
So it's not a matter of listening to the fans, it's a matter of looking at what the fans are doing as yet another blindingly obvious reason to sack Kean. The reason the fans are staying away is that they are looking at all these things Kean has done and just won't go because he clearly should have been sacked by now but isn't.
That's as important to those fans staying away as any perceived message to the owners. There are vocal fans of course who want to show their displeasure to the regime, but many hardcore fans just can't be arsed going in the face of such stupidity, because it's insulting to their own intelligence at the end of the day.

I emailed back saying that unfortunately I wouldn't be needing a parking space as I am not renewing my ST's until Kean is no longer associated with the club and I attached the previous letters asking for them to be forwarded, once again, to the recipients.
The young lady promptly replied to say she had passed them on. I await their response, although I suspect hell will freeze over first. Kean and Agnew feel no obligation other than to themselves.
It's symptomatic of our modern age, be it bankers, politicians, security chiefs or football managers/directors. They cannot differentiate right from wrong, until they are found out, then apologise profusely. The treatment of customers means nothing to them; we live in a world of grab what you can until you're exposed.
Whatever happened to honesty, integrity and simple good manners?
