Weather intervenes on Burnley's return

BURNLEY’S squad returned for pre-season yesterday, but the Lancashire weather forced them indoors on their first day back at training.

More than two months after their final game of the 2011/12 campaign, a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol City on April 28, the Clarets gathered once more as they started preparations for the new season.

But heavy rain meant that plans for the session to take place on the pitches at their usual Gawthorpe training base had to be altered.

The players instead held their annual fitness assessments indoors at the elite gym installed at the Turf Moor leisure centre, which is complete with a 3G training surface.

The squad was split into small groups as they completed ‘bleep’ tests in stages with summer signings Jason Shackell, Luke O’Neill and George Porter all meeting their new team-mates for the first time.
