Burnley sign up nine new scholars

BURNLEY have signed up nine new scholars as they look to build on last season’s progress in the FA Youth Cup.
The Clarets reached the semi finals of the tournament during the 2011/12 campaign and youth coach Terry Pashley is hopeful that the latest 16-year-old age group will also produce some promising players for the club.
Evan Galvin, Cameron Dummigan, Conor Mitchell, Luke Daly, Charlie Holt, Lewis Nuttall, Callum Jakovlevs, Nathan Lowe and Alex Whitmore have all signed two-year scholarship deals.
“This is where it starts for them,” Pashley said.
“We have identified them as good young prospects and we are looking forward to working with them and helping them fulfil their potential to go on and have successful careers – hopefully here at Burnley.”
Midfielder Galvin arrives from Cork Corinthians and has been capped at under 16 level by the Republic of Ireland.
Defender Dummigan is a Northern Ireland under 16 international and joins from Cliftonville, while goalkeeper Mitchell is from Portrush and is an under 17 international.
Central defender Alex Whitmore signs from Wallsend Boys Club, while full back Holt, striker Nuttall, keeper Jakovlevs and midfielder Lowe progress from Burnley’s centre of excellence.
Midfielder Daly joined Burnley from Manchester United at the end of last season.
