'World' records set at Darwen

TWO world records were set in the pool at Darwen Leisure Centre at the weekend – but they won’t stand as the event was not held in competition conditions.

Preston Swimming Club held its Guild Gala at Darwen Leisure Centre which included a team representing the GB Paralympic Squad.

Jonathan Fox, from Newquay but based in Manchester, swam fastest ever times in the S7 100m backstroke and S7 200m freestyle.

“Because swimers weren’t drug tested they count as unofficial world records,” said Peter Mason, chairman of Preston Swimming Club. “But they were two incredible swims and showed the standard we have.”
